In current economy in Türkiye i dont know what would we do if we didnt have our garden. All through the summer and winter we as a family eat what we grow on the garden. We rarely shop for fruits and vegetables. I just planted leeks, beets and cabbages today and watching this video made me feel really good. Love you and your videos Gitte ❤️ i love learning about sustainable living and your opinion on things and I hope you are ok

I remember my mother talking to me and my sisters in my teenage years (10-15 years back) about how New Yorker, Tally Weijl, H&M clothing is pretty bad quality. She still remembers times when stuff was produced better (her mother worked in the field/ sewed clothing). SheIN now being the new standard for bad blows my mind...

My last water bottle have been deformed in the dishwasher and I was looking for new in few weeks. And when I came home and was putting back my books at the attic and then... I saw the advert bottle made by my dad's company. It is plastic, but it is so beautifully apple green that I had to have it. I like very much my apple green bottle. And it is possible to wash it in dishwasher, thanks god.

Loved this video! It just makes sense that if you're not buying disposables and a bunch of stuff you don't need, you're gonna spend less money in the long run. Investing in costlier items that are going to last for years will bring the cost down to pennies per use averaged over the life of the product. BTW, my great grandparents immigrated from Denmark to America so I'm half Danish. It makes me proud to share a heritage with you, Gittemary. You're doing good work for Mother Earth! ❤

Love the random church bells after you come back from shopping :) I am looking forward to the autumn time, because I like to collect the conkers on the ground to make my own laundry detergent. I usually collect like 1-2kg, let them dry on towels at home and then for laundry I quarter a handful, let them soak in water and that water gets really soapy. It works wonders, also used the dark green ivy leaves for my laundry. I do have liquid laundry detergent at home, but it's amazing what nature provides as well. I am from Germany where we also have a deposit scheme for bottles, here in the UK / Scotland sooo many people are against that because it would create more problems. Big fan of tooth tabs here, I do split them in half to make them last longer , lol.

To my fellow US viewers, e-bikes are a great way to reduce your dependence on cars even if you live in a super car-dependent place (like most of the US). I ride my bike for trips under 3 miles and it’s cut my car usage in half which feels like a huge win, especially in my very car-dependent city!

The bowl is to die for really beautiful. I purchased a stainless steel lunch box at least 10 years ago, also 3 layers. Love it. Also I at times use it not to take food elsewhere to eat, but to store my salads in. I find I can keep lettuce in it a week and it stays fresh and crisp. I purchased an additional stainless steel (single dish nut with a divider) container to gift to a friend who takes their lunch to work). I’m an avid gardener so I grow a lot (sadly not all) of our produce and “can” any extra. Some years, like this year, are real challenging with the record temperatures and I not sure I’m saving any $ over purchasing from a local market. Lastly I wanted to share with you what my grandmother taught me (she grew up during the depression) “use it up, wear it out, fix it, make it do, or do without”. My grandmother did her laundry in her sink and hung it out to dry her entire life, never owned a car, used public transportation. Everything she had was pre-owned. With the single exception of her couch & chair. She saved for years for it a cream brocade French provincial style and paid for custom vinyl covers. We kids weren’t allowed and when she died, we removed the covers to find it looked brand new.

But the ones I have are so foamy for my taste if I use the whole thing. Edit to add! Yes! It makes me furious that fixing an appliance is more expensive then getting a new one. We had one part of a basket from a dishwasher broke (it is just past guarante date-ofcourse) and getting a new basket and the things it mounted on is next to impossible and when we found one it was so expensive. I think when we talk about the 'privilege' of low waste living. Firstly i think previous generations have always lived in low waste lifestyle, it's how they survived wars and really harsh economic depressions which in the west these days we are largely sheltered from, it's really only our generations using plastic like crack addicts. But i also think that yes the initial purchase of the stainless steel product may be more expensive but you will have it for a lifetime so your not going to have to replace it as it wears out or gets broken, so in that way it is actually more cost effective and it's more short sightedness from people as opposed to inability to access a reusable drink bottle etc.. I think some things have no alternative to plastic but we definitely need to rethink our relationship with it. It's more the whole foods thing that seems extremely expensive, at least in my country. Unless you grow your own, which lets be honest we can't all have a feild of wheat to make our own flour with 😂 it gets kind of difficult.
