Watching this video, I now truly understand what is going on. I have always be taught to shake someone's hand at release. However, I noticed you speak on another video about making sure your thumb is facing the opposite wall and the elbow pointing to the hip at release. I found this to be true. I tried this at league last night. The ball literally explodes at the pocket and the consistency is there for sure. I have to practice this a lot. I had the tendency to struggle moving left to open up the lane a lot more. Thanks for the excellent explanation of these modern techniques..

So glad I came across his videos. When i started league bowling, I was just a person who bowled on occasion with only the basics that i learned in college for those extra credits. Anyway, started league bowling with the new hubby and his team and I was doing good with my own form and range of scores no lower than150/160 no higher than 210/215 just not always consistent. Well, all the so called tips from the "more experienced league bowlers" and the "don't do that but do this" had changed up my game tremendously over 2 years that I've bowled that i was constantly frustrated and I'm trying to get back to where i was with no luck. I'm all over the place with trying to do this and that and remember this and that to where i had to just quit for awhile. So glad that I have come across JR's videos because he explains in detail so well and his videos are very precise in showing you what he's telling you. His vids have given me hope to get back in league and try and work in my form and really understand the things that others were trying to "teach." Hoping to bring up my scores and maintain consistency with my game and get my form back.

This video was very helpful I completely understand now. That would explain why my ball doesn't hook all the time. Because of how I always get my fingers to the outside part of the ball rather than rotating around it from the inside part of the ball it totally makes sense now and it's really been helping and I'm able to move left and hook the entire lane and it also picks up into a much better roll in the back end and more messengers thanks so much Raymond!!!

This is very interesting. Previously, we were taught that it was okay outside the ball at release. Now, in modern bowling, this is mentioned quite a bit. I am seriously struggling with this. I used to always think this was difficult. Now, I get what it means. Pointing your elbow toward your hip and keeping it there takes a bit of strength. I appreciate this tip. Will try to practice this.

My comfort zone is outside up the back of the ball and I've done well. But I've always struggled when I had to move left take some speed off and get the ball to react. The outsides burn up so fast this yr my only option is to change balls and move inside. I always knew what i was trying to do but had limited success. For some reason watching this video and some slow motion pro releases it finally sunk in. I had a 300 and two 800s in the past month so TY JR.

Interesting, I must be playing from the inside a lot more than I think I am as I am trying to get moved more right. Even playing Pearls (Zen Pearl) on lanes that aren't even dried out, I still have to get too far left. I don't seem to have any problems hooking my ball and I am still maintaining about an 18mph ball speed. I am actually trying to get more up the back of the ball these days and decrease my axis rotation but maintain as high of rev rate as I can.

when i used to bowl...the lanes were so dry...i always had to throw a kill shot...and i still over powered the lane at times...so playing the inside of the ball wouldnt work for me...unless i was converting the 7 pin spare...then i could stand in front of the 7 pin about the 2nd dot...throw the ball at the third arrow from the left...let the ball go out to about the 2 board on the right and itll come back and take out the 7 pin

@booze1903

So how do you achieve this? When you pick up your ball in the setup, do you like twist/rotate your hand clockwise (right handed) at the start? I find doing this puts tension in my forearm so I’m not sure if that’s right.
@RGJ109
@RGJ109 5 жыл бұрын
Booze .. I am just recently getting the ball to hook. This video is one of the best I have seen. When I pick up the ball, I use both hands to lift it, then put my fingers in, then my thumb. It’s important to start with a relaxed thumb. To get more hook, after I am warmed up and hitting my target. I try to get my hand more under the ball, which seems to point my first finger down during the swing. And as JR said, on the swing try to keep your elbow close to your hip. When the ball gets to the release point, it should pull your thumb out first. Your wrist will turn the ball counter clockwise, and your fingers will naturally pull the ball into a good rotation. And it takes lots of practice to get comfortable with this...if I squeeze my hand, my thumb gets stuck and pulls the ball to my left (am right handed). Good luck!

Ok...but WHEN do you let your wrist and hand go to release the ball?? I can keep my wrist bent like that all day, but I just wind up "throwing" the ball instead of rolling it....if I try to roll it by "hitting it on the down" then I wind up just dropping the ball.
