Great video. How many years do the MP rotators last before you typically have to replace them?
@BattistoniTrenchTalk
@BattistoniTrenchTalk 2 жыл бұрын
It will 100% depend on your water quality and your soil quality they're extremely durable however if you have very dirty water the filters will tend to clog and need to be cleaned the ones at my house have been running for 12 years I've had to clean them once with CLR I'm on well water that has higher iron

Hi, two questions: 1) Would you be able to use these in place of static spray heads (not rotors)? 2) Do these get any water to the distance between the spray head and say 6’ out? Or is this a dead zone?
@Andy_Humphrey
@Andy_Humphrey 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, MPs are designed to be used in place of static Spray nozzles. If you have spray heads already installed, you can swap out the nozzles for MPs. For optimal coverage the head-to-head spacing rule still applies.

Just saw this video as I recently upgraded to MP Rotators. One main issue I have is some heads run great (rotate at a decent rate) and some heads barely move at all but water is spraying out normally. Is there something I do to the ones that aren't rotating and shouldn't they all be rotating about the same speed? Thank you.
@Andy_Humphrey
@Andy_Humphrey 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Kswa - Couple of possible explanations that I'll list here: 1- if those particular heads are further down stream from the ones rotating fine it could be a low-pressure issue. The first sign is when the spray pattern is okay but the rotation is slow - or no rotation. An MP gauge will be the best way to measure the pressure. Video for you here: fb.watch/fm-ulB8qPn/ 2- Check the set screw on the top of the nozzle. The set screw controls the distances, and if it's cranked all the way down (3 rotations) they tend to rotate a little slower.. 3- You could have debris in the nozzle. Perhaps the lines didn’t get flushed properly prior to installing the MP’s.. If you press down on the center portion of the nozzle repeatedly while it’s running it helps to flush debris and you can see the nozzle start to speed up unless more debris has worked its way in there. Flush the zone, clean out the nozzles and reinstall. ANDY

volume is not measured in gallons per minute. that is the flow rate. volume is how much water that comes out of a nozzle during an amount of time.
@dudemcgee256
@dudemcgee256 2 ай бұрын
@@pbrooks4040 Think about what you just said. "Volume is how much water that comes out during an amount of time" You mean like how many gallons in a minute? Volumetric flow and flow rate are the same thing. You could argue semantics here. Plain ol' volume is just a static measurement without time in the calculation. But we all know what is being discussed, so the need for this kind of nitpicking is lacking. Volumetric flow rate is the technically correct term but who's keeping track? Volumetric flow rate, also called the actual flow rate, is a measure of the volume of fluid that flows through the instrument per unit time. Common units of measure include LPM (liters per minute) and CCM (cubic centimeters per minute) or the aforementioned GMP(gallons per minute).
@pbrooks4040
@pbrooks4040 2 ай бұрын
@@dudemcgee256 i’m just saying that volume is time-independent, e.g., i can fill a 5 gallon bucket in 10 seconds or 10 minutes, and it’s still just a volume of five gallons. so 5 gallons in 10 seconds is a flow rate of 30 gpm, and 5 gallons in 10 minutes is 0.5 gpm. a time unit is required to express rate. same with distance needing a period of time to a velocity, e.g., miles per hour. i’m being accurate, not not-picky.

My current system uses hunter 5000 series. If i convert to MP sprinklers, can i replace just the nozzle part or do i have to replace the whole body too. Thanks
@Andy_Humphrey
@Andy_Humphrey Жыл бұрын
@Britineeng - Sounds like you may have Rain Bird (5000 Series). Hunter/Rain Bird, tomayto/tomahto - regardless, they are both 3/4" Rotor type sprinklers, and yes, you will need to replace the entire sprinkler with a Spray type sprinkler. The Rain Bird 1800 Series or Hunter Pro Spray Series are both great options. Keep in mind that the fitting that feeds your current rotor sprinkler is 3/4" and the spray heads will need a 1/2" fitting. We're here if you need any assistance.

@@Andy_Humphrey if they are under pressured can that be a cause for not rotating? Who ever plumbed this system used mostly 1/2” pipe and there are 20 heads on a 1” valve.
@Andy_Humphrey
@Andy_Humphrey 2 ай бұрын
 wow, absolutely, I think you nailed it. Low pressure is likely the problem…. pipe size is too small, and too many sprinklers on one zone.

It’s more of a range based on the pressure, 8-15ft, and is roughly adjustable by 25%. Here is a link to the performance charts: www.hunterindustries.com/sites/default/files/CA-Cutsheet-MP-Rotator-US.pdf

If my landscaper tells me to run my old Rainbird Sprays (1.6"/hr) for 5 minutes and I converted to the MP 1000-2000 series (.40"/hr). How long should I run them now if they are "30% more efficient"? I am quadrupling them and doing 20 minutes based on precipitation rate but not taking into account efficiency.
@Andy_Humphrey
@Andy_Humphrey 11 ай бұрын
Love this question, mostly because it raises a lot more questions and curiosity about how all these devices actually work. The math says to 4x the runtime to adjust from 1.6"/hr to 0.40"/hr. Per your landscaper, run them for 20 minutes, and adjust from there. The 30% efficiency comes from matched precipitation, slower precipitation rate (less runoff), and less wind drift. Basically, your 1" of water will be more effective. We could talk a day about the science in between ;)

I'm having a issue with my system have 21 mp 3000 and noticed 1 mp3000 is not watering in front of the nozzle on a 2" pop up. Not sure why, cleaned the filter which was not dirty etc but still same issue
@Andy_Humphrey
@Andy_Humphrey Жыл бұрын
Hi @djaga530 - can you try swapping that MP nozzle with another MP nozzle on that zone that you know is good? This will help rule out a pressure problem, etc. If the suspect bad nozzle performs poorly on another sprinkler, than you will know it may need to be replaced. -Andy

How long it takes more less with the MP to put 1 inch of water per week?
@Andy_Humphrey
@Andy_Humphrey Жыл бұрын
Hi @cesarcorral3619 - the MP Rotator has an average precipitation rate of 0.45 inches per hour. So that means to get 1 inch, you need to run the sprinkler for 2hrs 13mins. Keep in mind, if it is windy, or your head spacing is not perfect, you will need to increase this time.

I don't know what happened with my MP Rotator install. I have 60 PSI and 11 GPM. Trying to even run 3 MP Rotator 3000 90s it won't give them enough power to operate correctly. From everything I read it should be 100% fine. I must be missing something. I went back to Rain Bird rain curtain sprinklers. I wish I could figure out the MP Rotator problem.
@Andy_Humphrey
@Andy_Humphrey Жыл бұрын
Hi Dave - yes, you should be absolutely fine. Are the Rain Bird rotors you went back to connected to the same valve? I wonder if there is a restriction in the pipe somewhere? If everything is the same, and your Rain Bird rotors work, I wonder if the screens of the MP rotators are somehow clogged. I'd be happy to talk this through with you and see if we can figure it out. - Andy
