Of all the industries the coronavirus pandemic has affected, the airline industry is among those that have been hit the hardest. According to the International Air Transport Association, airlines' passenger revenue is estimated to sink by over $300 billion from 2019. In the age of social distancing, planes are not designed to keep passengers six feet apart. Still, airlines are making drastic changes to their travel policies, pushing sanitation efforts, and more to attract weary travelers back to the skies.

that could be a bad thing in the long run, what happens when our immune systems are weak four years from now? what if another china virus "breaks out" then?
@sup8668
@sup8668 4 жыл бұрын
@@crimsonite1524 your immune system only becomes weak with prolonged use of intense sanitation, sitting in a sanitized plane for 6 hours isn't going to compromise your immune system. Besides your body is faced with many germs, bacteria, and viruses from even touching your phone. But it would be more dangerous for a un-sanitized plane who goes on round trips (lets say) 3 times a day with 300 people, especially with travelers from all sorts of countries. (ps. there is already another new strain of flu virus from china, they're not sure if it does spread from humans to humans. It is shown that it can transfer from pigs to humans, as around a 25% of pig farm workers do have antibodies against this virus. Don't go after me if I am wrong about the new flu, as it is new and I have only read about what was the latest information. )

My family and I have gone on a lot of cruises. Typically to other countries in such. I was asked by a family member if I would travel again by plane. I said if there is a cure for the virus some day then yes I will by plane. Hopefully one day their will be a cure. Otherwise I feel it's too risky. If I want to travel, i will do it by car. Traveling even before the virus was a hassle I felt like. Sometimes I encountered long security lines and sometimes I encountered security pulling me out because I set something off. Other times flights get delayed or canceled so you are there waiting waiting...and waiting. More hassles of those type of things. I didn't like going through security in having to remove my shoes,remove jacket and then they were really picky of what went in the tray bin and what didn't.

Jeebus , the filters on the plane are sufficient to stop aerosolized particles. The problem is lack of social distancing. They need to build something like cabins onboard for passengers to separate each group from other groups with walls. Also, make masks mandatory when going to the public restroom, but private restrooms in each cabin would be ideal. After doing all this, the cost of a ticket maybe $1000, but it will keep everyone safe.

What about deboarding aircraft? Airlines need highly organized, enforced deboarding policies and procedures. Social distancing onboarding loading row by row. However, soon as the aircraft lands everyone irrationally forces themselves together in sardines moshpit rushing to be first to exit aircraft. Perhaps flight attendants using tasers or have a sky marshal assistance in keeping illogical passengers to follow social distancing deboarding protocol

@@keithshiversjr3330 Good suggestion. Many airlines are not providing meals or beverage services during the pandemic. Anxious travelers have historically drunk alcohol to help them sleep through the flight. Provide melatonin or their sleep aid of choice. This way people do not complain about unsavory meals, gaining weight, overpriced drinks, or about fully priced tickets minus the meals and beverages services on flights while practicing safe social distancing.

It's not the airport, it's the airplane preventing me from air travel. It's these companies' fault. They crammed more and more people into smaller seats with less legroom which is basically just a playground for Covid. Now people are rightfully afraid to be locked in a room with 100s of others for hours, many of whom aren't wearing masks (ie while eating) with recirculated unfiltered air. Also wearing a mask for hours is so uncomfortable.

I am as free-market as anyone. But this pandemic may be the proof that air travel should perhaps be regulated similarly to utilities, with defined routes allocated to providers with fares and services subject to regulatory approval. Given the low profit margins available to the industry and enormous capital costs, a traditional free-market approach may not be efficient.

There’s a big incentive to not only fly sick, but to work sick. For all of the travelers who fly for work, who have to fly, they may not have a choice whether to go if they’re sick or not. Part of the problem, and why so many people in this country go out anyway if they’re sick, is because most people’s vacation is combined with their sick days. Meaning if you’ve got to go to your two children’s graduations, a friend’s wedding, and to see your in-laws over Christmas, then all your time off for the year is already used, and you can’t afford to take a day somewhere just because you have a cold, whether you have to fly or not. And some people can’t afford to take a day off when they’re sick because they need the money. So if we really want to see a change, and to see less people going out while they’re sick, then we need to join the rest of the developed world and separate vacation time and sick time. Or, if you’re sick, work from home if you can. It’s been proven now that so many people can do that.

Check the coach seat sizes again. Most major carries have seats that are 16-17 inches, which is LESS than 1.5 feet (18 inches). You have to pay for business or first class to get a seat over 18", not to mention the distance between the rows. They said the keeping the middle seat empty doesn't make you safer - BS, it at least means you don't have to be touching the next person.

Even without covid, the airline industry is going downhill due to the pilot problem. Even with greater pay, it isnt enough to wave away the journey to fly in an airline. I think the first step would be to take away the requirement to fly 500 hours in a commercial jet to have access to fly a commercial jet. It's a loop. Also,3000 hours flight time might be a tad bit much, too. do you know how many years it takes to get 3000 hours? Atop that is the time to learn, and the cost. I'm sure lucky to evade the $200k+ debt.

A US development called FarUV 207-222nm is a possible answer. This specific frequency has unique qualities. It can be fitted in compact light units and research in 2018 demonstrated effective sterilisation of all bacteria and viruses and was so safe on skin and eyes treatments can be intermittent or continuous with people in the room. Portable units are available for public transport planes and ships. This will make spaces as sterile as the best operating theatres. Developed in conjunction with NASA and the US military it’s a winner and a must to avoid bankruptcy in many industries. First units will become available next month. The Japanese have been using in schools and hospitals. The US needs to use the Defense Production Act to make units generally available.

I wouldn't. There is some major crisis every 8-10 years, 911, Bush Recession, COVID, grandmothers spontaneously combusting, whatever. And in every crisis the airline industry is the hardest hit, and the last to recover. If you start now you might get in and have enough seniority to weather the next storm, you might not. I was just starting to apply for regional airlines when the 08 recession hit, and I spent the next years flight instructing 12 hours a day, which was hell. I'm at a regional now interviewed with 3 carriers in the last 2 years and didn't get an offer, now my prospects are in the tube again thanks to COVID. It's kinda nice getting paid not to fly, but my career prospects are so dim you need night vision to see them. Oh, and in the good times they fly you to death. My advice, get a nice profitable career, preferably one that you can do from home (because COVID), with good work-life balance and if you're dyeing to fly, use that money to join a flying club or take up paramotoring or drone racing on your days off. The job itself is ok when things are going well (and hell when they are not; maintenance, weather, 5-leg days, passenger drama and so on), but the career is a roller coaster, especially given the amount of money you have to borrow to get into it.
