What Does the Mind Want?

A man wants to know what the mind wants by its constant seeking, avoiding and identifying with objects and experiences.
Rupert says: ‘The mind is always trying to bring itself to an end. What happens when the mind comes to an end is that the presence of being emerges or shines. The truth is that being shines all the time, but we don’t notice it because of the noise of the mind.
‘What we do here is to go directly to the experience that the mind is trying to evoke. We have no agenda whatsoever with the content of the mind. We don’t try to change, focus or discipline the mind. We don’t even try to bring the mind to an end through conventional meditation techniques because our being is not dependent on whether the mind is active or not. We just go directly to that which is prior to the mind, independent of it and already free.’

That makes sense. The moment I see the mind as a friend (even see the mind as enemy) - in summary, whenever I see the mind operating as a mind - I don't seem to be identified with it and therefore can rest unattached. But who sees the mind as a friend or enemy? Isn't that just a subtler part of the mind? I aim more and more at just being and ignoring everything else because that give me this immense peace and rest.

God will overcome you and fuck you up. No imaginary separate self can stand in God's way lol. If God actually becomes Alive in you, gets inside you, everything saying it's not God (disgusting) will get utterly destroyed, and you will recognize, submit and declare its God, that God is The Truth, and that God exists, totally. A imaginary separate self and you say awareness or whatever. This is nonsense. God will fuck you up if He gets His Hands on you and your imaginary separate self and your awareness thing. Indeed, God has won. I have lost. In here, God is The King. Not me, but God. God has fuckt me up and totally Prevailed O God! I love You and I fear You, and I submit to Your Will, and I obey You, and to You I prostrate and bow, and to You I pray. I have submitted and surrendered You are the King, and You are my Lord, and You are my God. Therefore, O God, write me among the witnessers! @JamesBS. Rupert hasn't explained anything, other than blaming a nonexistent entity. That is Duality. If all activities are only the activities of consciouness and consciouness Alone, then, consciouness is the Only One doing anything and Only One responsible for all there Is. There's no such thing as a mind with its own existence to do or undo anything. Let alone be blamed. This is a religious belief based on duality. Rupert's model is a religious belief in duality, presented under the packaging of non-duality. Under Rupert's religious ideology, the all good and all loving deity God of religion becomes an all peace and all happiness consciousness, and the devil becomes mind and finite mind. Same doctrine, Same belief, only different labels. One can never be too careful, or be contemplative enough, when it comes to understanding the nature of Existence as Is in Itself. You take good care of yourself!

@@sunbeam9222 Of course not! How about trying honesty? How about honestly saying that consciouness is the Only there either to be praised or blamed. No one else. No devil, No mind, No finite mind. None whatsoever! Religions cannot hold their deity responsible. How can an all loving deity bring so much sufferings and madness? Right? It must be the Devil that is responsible. Right? That is the beginning of self deception. How can an all peaceful consciousness bring so much violence and madness? Right? It must be the mind that is responsible. Right? The thousand concessions, contortions and distortions are only to perpetuate the false notions of some deity or consciouness. Self deception is always full of ear candies. Sounding like a sweet poem to ear, only to end up deceiving oneself, others and ultimately Existence Itself. Only under religious ideologies, can such madness and insanity get a free pass. I can sit alone for hours and let my mind flow freely from worldly things. No issues. However it all comes to an end because I have to interact with people when I work. I have to interact with friends and family. It’s definitely harder being around people when you’re trying to understand the true self and be at peace. Yet as I practice more and more I can find it easier to do even when people are around.

I think what's happening is Rupert is talking about an ego that seeks a "spiritual outcome." So a student of spiritualism who has developed a "spiritual ego/mindset" is always trying to bring itself to an end (outcome) because it thinks making thoughts stop is "spiritual." But, to stop thinking is not the aim of spiritualism. Spiritualism has no aim that the mind can understand. It's just the the silent and still Remembrance of Self 🙏

What an interesting observation. When you're in open sea carried on a wave, you may get a sense you're moving forward, then you realise you've been moving backwards the whole time when in fact, you've never moved an inch, the crest and trough created an illusion. Vibration. We can safely assume that stillness created illusion with a vibration. A vibration is mind. It doesn't want to come to an end. It's naturally dies down like a wave. A crest and trough

For Rupert the direct path seems simple, I am glad for him. But in my experience there is only one way to establish what he is talking about, in a way that is lasting, evolutionary, accessible and useable, consistently; that way is daily silent meditation, with no goal in mind, just being with the mind, the body in stillness, bringing the mind to a stop. It is possible to cognitively and intuitively grasp what Rupert is talking about, and one can do it for oneself so that it becomes part of one's daily life, through training.

Both the question and response assume that the mind is real and existent. It is neither and all explanations of how it "works" are just as unreal. No one has ever seen or experienced "the mind". It is simply thought projecting itself into itself and "thinking" what it thinks is real. It is not a separate knowing entity. It has no power of its own. It is inert. Find out to whom the thoughts appear and you will find undivided Consciousness...the "unknown knower of all that is known" in very the place we mistakenly refer to as the "mind".

Hi! I was the questioner in this video. If I remember right, the very next thing anybody says after his last words in this video are from me: "Ok." His last pointer about avoidance settled me into what he was telling me. I wasn't the kind of questioner who was expressing a wholly satisfied, empty mind in the moment of the question - more like a student asking something pertinent to take back to the drawing board. This was early in the retreat, and I felt that his response to my questions were like a serum working upon my mind in the ensuing days.

@@JonatanAllgulin I asked Rupert what the mind sought in all its activity, creativity and identification. He was laser focused on that specific question. I deeply appreciated his responses and played them back in my mind a lot during the retreat. I’ve come to understand my question was not so different than “Hi Rupert. I have a problem. I’m completely addicted to cigarettes.” Instead of asking “How do I quit?”, I asked “Why do I love cigarettes so much? What’s so great about them?” And his response would have been the same. It’s the fulfillment of the craving, and thus the falling away of the desire, that you love about cigarettes. That’s why you’re stuck on them, you love Truth, peace and transcendence so much. Just in an indirect, non-transcendent way. I was supposing in myself that there was a different reason my mind sought all these different identifications and experiences, that I was running away from some identification or experience I deemed negative. So I asked him “alright, then what about why my mind is avoiding? What’s the game? Why does it do that?” And he said it was the same game. It wants the peace of true nature, it’s just stuck in its indirect ways. So he did answer my question, even as you pose it. It was how I asked the question that prompted his responses. He covers a very vast umbrella of experience with the simple pointing that all that is ever sought is the peace and happiness of our true nature.

@@zachbourque630 I'm not trying to spoil the party by any means. But, in seeking the nature of Existence, we can really never be too careful. It is quite shocking to me, how Rupert got his followers to question about mind, as if mind is some sort of an entity with its own volition to do or undo anything. This is duality. The only One to be questioned should be consciousness Alone. How is it possible for mind to do or undo anything, when mind itself is nothing other than the activity of consciousness Alone? The Only One there that can do or undo, would be consciouness Alone. Isn't it? There's no mind anytime, anywhere to do or undo anything. A mind is not an entity, but, an activity of consciouness Itself. Consciousness was the one doing it all. So, the only One that needs to be questioned is consciouness and consciouness Alone. Isn't it? Unless you believe in two separate selves with their own volition doing their own things. This is a belief in duality, being presented under the label of non-duality. It's a belief that has its basis in the old religious ideology. One can never be too careful, or be contemplative enough, when it comes to understanding the nature of Existence Itself. You take good care of yourself!

I strongly disagree with Rupert's assertion that resting in "I am" is equivalent to nirvana or our true self. While it may provide temporary comfort to those who are suffering, it falls short of the true meaning of Nirvana. The "I am" sense within us is merely a reflection of our true essence. Although resting in "I am" can serve as a starting point on the path towards enlightenment, it is not the final destination. In this state, the "I am" sense transforms into a "non-being" sense, but there is still some level of awareness present. However, beyond this stage lies a state of absolute Nothingness where we are devoid of any presence or consciousness. This state can only be experienced when we are asleep or dead, and it represents our true nature.

Well; it is. Buddhism & Hinduism seek Truth; so they go after that which is permanent. They go after, "What was never born & never dies?" & reach for enlightenment. The Judao-Christian approach seeks Love, not Truth & Love is based on relationships, which aren't permanent. You might like a clip titled, "Why are we here?" by rabbi Mannis Freidman. Relationships are something we have all experienced, or we would die as infants. Someone has to take care of a baby, or it dies. It's far less abstract. The thing is; Truth brought to fullness becomes Love & Love brought to Fullness becomes Truth. I think both teachers are great teachers. We can each start out whatever way we want to. The rabbi is filled w humor. Rupert is filled w peace. I've seen clips of Ramana Maharsi where he doesn't bother to brush away insects that bite him because he was so detached from the body . . . . I do think the Love paths offer more solutions to this grieving world exactly because the Truth paths are so abstract. You can retire to solitude in a mountain cave to do the Truth & permanence paths, but only if someone loved you when you were a baby. Check out the rabbi's clip. You might like it. Both teachers discuss how the ego interferes with being spiritual.

The mind cant bring itself to anything nor want anything because the mind is not a physical source and therefore cannot implement wanting. The mind is just the facility of consciousness and consciousness is non physical also. Both mind and consciousness plus thought are all non physical and require the physical brain faculty to be implemented in by the physical source within that formed initially at its inception at an epoch for one s initial lineage. That means you were initially FORMED not BORN. Your Form within ie your Real Presence, your Being, your " I am " implemented it's mind, consciousness tools so as to be aware of it's, the Presence, surrounds. The Mind cant want anything because it's the Physical Source Presence within that is Prompting the wanting. Basically the mind cant manufacture anything nor store nor delete anything. Thats the problem with so called teachers and Guru's etc, they do not have a clue how the intelligent species was initially FORMED not BORN.
