Same for me. On a similar note, I once worked for a Muslim man, probably the most honorable person I ever worked for, who absolutely loves Handel's Hallelujah Chorus. Great music speaks beyond its intended audience.

You have no idea how much southern Pentecostals love this song. It's so weird. So many times, in churches I've attended they have been like...."were gonna sing this song again like we did last year. You can't run. It's too late. Here it goes..."

I love that the appeal of the post is "we can cheekily distill this several-minute song into a very brief answer" and it's like......... no you can't, lol. (Also I first heard this song from Mark Lowry (the song's writer, though I think there are lots of covers that are more well-known) so it was funny to hear that the comment poster is "Mark" vs. the "Mark" who wrote the lyrics, lol.

Mary knew plenty; Jesus's Nanas were college roommates. Joe's Mom was Catholic (Obviously, why else would Joe have been named St. Joseph?). Huge but friendly dispute between Nana C and Nana Anne over raising JC Catholic or Jewish (Jewish mother and Catholic mother - like two lions). This was resolved in favor of Nana Anne after Joe dragged Mary to Bethlehem on Christmas Eve without having enough sense to make a hotel reservation.
@KaiHenningsen
@KaiHenningsen 8 ай бұрын
Unfortunately, Jesus then converted and became a Messianic Jew, disappointing both Nanas. He somehow fell in with a group of shady characters, out-of-job fishermen, "tax" collectors for some _Italian_ -family- organization, and so on, disturbing the temple, riling up the masses, stuff like that. So he got in serious trouble with the authorities. That's what happens if you don't keep them on the straight and narrow, and instill respect for law and order.
@ballasog
@ballasog 8 ай бұрын
@@KaiHenningsen Please don't talk about things you don't know anything about. You're just making stuff up. Joe's Dad Harry was a pharmaceutical magnate and started a revocable trust for Joe after his company introduced St. Joseph Aspirin; the trust received 2% of the profits from the sales of the medication. After the Bethlehem fiasco, Harry made Mary the trustee of the trust and made her swear to him not to disburse any money to Joe that would give him an income beyond basic necessities until he learned a trade and understood what it was like to actually work for a living. Most of the disbursement's were for JC's education; during school holidays he hung out with Joe sometimes and made decorative objects in wood; these were much in demand. That's how the myth that he was a carpenter got started.

If you believe, as Catholics do, that Mary is an immaculately-conceived holy person, you could also believe that she knew Jesus' significance as the Messiah and as God incarnate. Even uf you believe that she wss an ordinary human being, you could akso believe that Mary would have also known Jesus' spiritual significance through the presence of a Gid being inside her body.

Dr. McClellan confesses that he -- perhaps shockingly -- had to look up this popular Christmas song. Ok Dan, correct me if I'm wrong on this: As you make these videos, you look up stuff all the time. Due respect to your scholarship, 'twould be malpractice to answer off the top of your head. Scientists, engineers, doctors and lawyers constantly check their references for things they probably mostly should already know.

02:28 He says this refers to John the Baptist. I've always assumed verse 27 was talking about Jesus. How do we know? Does the Greek make it clearer? 76 And you, my child [John the Baptist], will be called a prophet of the Most High; for you will go on before the Lord to prepare the way for him, 77 to give his people the knowledge of salvation through the forgiveness of their sins,

How could Mary in any meaningful way actually give consent to bearing God's child? She was 15, uneducated, a virgin (even though she was married?) and the entity that was going to be impregnating her was the most powerful being in the universe?

Question: In Mark 3 the family of Jesus goes to take charge of him (because they think he's insane). Obviously, this shows the visit from Gabriel is a later fiction, nobody gets a visit from an angel about their first born and forgets all about it, but I'm curious if the Markean account is possible based on real historical events? Maybe Jesus was acting a bit crazy and his family wanted to "take charge" of him. What would this "take charge" of him entail? Was there like psych wards in those days? "Excuse me, Mr. Christ, I'm officer Abaddon," a man in a uniform says to Jesus. "We've had some disturbing reports and we're gonna have to do a 51-50 on your ass. Sorry, but it's law."

Answering the title cold: No... kinda. And yes... kinda 1st C c.e. Judean.... Basically Arabic complexion. Possibly some admixture, but not sufficient to be noteworthy. Not African... But not Nordic either.😂 If the politically charged notions of 'white' and 'black' are used it might pretty much depend on who was being asked. Think of the fuss 'whites' in the Americas made over hyperdescent with notions of quadroons and octoroons.... Almost to the point that if you don't burn in the sun you are not white enough. And this of course has its mirror... In that 'black' folks are inclined to welcome anyone rejected by the 'whites', and accept them as >black
