“For Crying Out Loud” by Meatloaf is one of the greatest love songs ever. Meatloaf has some of the most powerful pipes in Rock. Give him a chance and Meatloaf will sing you to tears. Meatloaf is like Freddy Mercury; almost operatic. Another performer to check out (if you haven’t already) is Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull. High energy performers, all three.

Fair point, although I can vouch for Loaf and Carla's ability to belt this song out, when I saw them perform at 1950's dance hall building that was converted into a two-level roadhouse bar in the mid-80's. Couldn't had had a more appropriate environment for this song!

Meatloaf also starred in Rocky Horror Picture Show. It's a bazaar Rock Theatre stage show. Has heaps of songs that made it into the music charts. On Friday nights at 11pm they had a screening at a local theatre, would get dressed up and go and act it out in front of the movie screen while the movie played. Doing an in depth analysis of each song would take a huge amount of time, but it would be fun to see you watch it

To complete the trilogy of rock opera to which you've been reacting, you need to hear "2112" by Rush. All three songs came out around the same time in the late 1970's and all three share both an operatic sensibility and great musical transitions.

The baseball video with the announcer describing the 'activity' on the field of play mirrors high school boys using baseball terminology to describe their sexual achievement on a date - "made it to 1st base" - kissing, "made it to 2nd base" - touching & caressing above the waist, "made it to 3rd base" - "touching & caressing below the waist" and "made it to 4th base (home plate)" or "holy cow, I think he's going to steal home" - intercourse.

I know you are analysing the performance but it seemed to me you missed out on all the fun of the story which is most of the point of this song! :( Great performance by Meat Loaf, Ellen Foley and the band, and of course the writing by Jim Steinman. I just wish you could have understood and the story more, a real shame. :(

In an interview I saw on KZfaq, Ellen said she also turned down touring because she didn't want a sweaty, 300 lb man sticking his tongue down her thorat every night. I fell out of my chair laughing . . .
