I use Cobian Reflector and choose the data folders that are important to me which are saved on an external hard drive. Incremental backups or full backups can be configured along with a time of day, week or other option.

Remember imaging software like Macrium Reflect, Acronis etc allows you to install a new hard drive and restore the image to the new drive. This includes Windows and all the applications that were installed at the time that the image was created. Using Free FileSync will only restore those files that you sync'd to another location. It will not reinstall the operation system or applications. You will have to do that first and then restore your data.

Thanks Brian. Back up your data everyone. Acronis use to be my go-to solution for creating back-ups. I now generally use the built in Windows system image creator, but this has proven to be very unreliable and doesn't always work as intended.

Stop using the build in Windows backup garbage asap. I am not going to bore you with the horrors I went through with that horrible software. As you said, it is unreliable. I have used the free version of Macrium Reflect for years. It is set up to be incremental and I use it to make a clone every other month or so. This way if worse comes to worse I can just plug in the back up SSD and be up in running in a half hour. I just decided to pay for it. Once paid I just entered the license number and it went from free to paid. No hassles!

Macrium Reflect (paid) is my current favorite, as I make multi cloned drives, of main drive, several times per week. As MR(paid) will do the copy only of changed files which typically means for me only about a 6 minute clone. With hotswap bays if main drive fails, remove drive A put in B and boot up, and you always have several versions of your files for quick access if you delete something in error. (You can quickly reboot to newly cloned drive to be sure it worked as well, before setting is aside in case needed) Also MR has simple way to make Rescue Media ISO under Other Tasks Menu, have had to use that on different machines a few times. Fav Cloner of all time was XXCLONE, miss that one.

I use and recommend the IDrive cloud backup software and service. The cloud backup service does require an annual payment, but you get peace of mind knowing that your backup is safe in another location. Unfortunately, just having a local backup is insufficient as the local backup can be lost due to burglary, fire, storms, and even power surges. I use IDrive for both creating a local backup and a cloud backup.

Thank you for the video.... This is my sons first PC build and he wanted not only speed but a backup option.... I admit I'm a bit old school so I went with two 2TB NVME drives and a 4TB 7200rpm drive. He has a 2TB NVME for his OS (Win 10Pro), pictures, videos, and documents. The second 2TB NVME is for his games from Steam, Origins, etc.. I am trying to find a software to clone each of the NVME drives to the 4TB drive (compressed) as backups.

Hi, I have a question about Macrium Reflect: I have cloned a number of HDDs to SSD with it, but on the last occasion, while cloning a 500 Gb HDD to a 2Tb SSD, the cloning went OK, except for the fact that the SSD was also reduced to 500 Gb. I retried a few times, the result being that the SSD packed it in. Do you know any way I can avoid this from happening in the future? I use Windows 11. Thank you in advance. Frankie. PS. Keep up the good work.

Is there a way or a software that just copies the folder and files in the original source structure so when i connect the "destination" hard disk to another pc i can read those folder and files normally, without me needing the backup software to read or restore those files? I can not find one. I tried many and they all, after the backup, create ONE SINGLE FILE that can only be read from the software that created it. And if i connect that external HD to another pc, I can not read those copied files coz the backup software is not installed in that second pc.

I have never used any kind of backup program, EVER. What I do is create a Norton Ghost Image of my boot partition every Sunday. My data is NEVER stored on the boot drive. I even use standalone versions of as many applications available. for instance Vivaldi and qBittorrent, and run them from D: drive. It is ALWAYS stored on D: drive. All my critical data gets copied to 4 different external drives + the last 3 ghost images using Microsoft Sync Toys. I keep at least 3 bootable Ventoy USB flash drives configured to boot the Dos version of Norton Ghost 11 that can perfectly restore my Ghost image stored on a hot insertable SSD, that holds copies of my ghost images to choose from, to the boot drive. Creating a backup without actually testing for restorability does not make sense. Honestly though, how many people actually test for the "restorability" of the backup. The biggest advantage is that should my PC fail to boot I can carry my external drives and ALL my data files + almost all applications are available immediately.

Which version of Norton have you got? 11? It's EOL now, isn't it? I have a copy knocking about somewhere and I'm wondering if it will still work.
@pmshah1946
@pmshah1946 10 ай бұрын
@@dannyarcher6370 Yes it is Version 11. What I have done is used VFD Win to first create a bootable 2.8 MB floppy image and converted that to an ISO file. I have used "NeoSmart Boot ICE" to add this ISO located in the root of C: drive to the boot menu. It works just fine so long as the boot drive is read/write accessible through the bios. Even though USB attached drives do show up in the list as destination for the "to be created GHOST image" these don't work because USB3 is not directly supported by bios. For some of the OEM systems with secure boot "lockdown" I have created a Ventoy USB boot flash drive which requires simple installation of Ventoy and plain copying of any bootable ISO file in the root. You can have multiple ISOs and will have a selection at "USB Boot" time. I have various OS installation and drive recovery / partition creation boot images on a 32 GB flash drive. I have Win 10, Mini Tool Boot, Active@, GParted and some other live boot Linux images etc on it.

@@dannyarcher6370 Yes it is version 11 which was still owned by Peter Norton. I created a floppy boot image using VFD Win and converted it to an ISO located in the C: root.
