Old post I know but this may help some people, the batteries they use in the 6.0 and the red lithium cp3.0 packs use the same pink cells, they seem to be unstable or they weren't balanced when assembled, so when the milwaukee charger charges it does so in a series circuit which doesn't allow the cells to get balanced while charging, I often have to use the USB charging trick with USB device that tells me at what amps volts im putting in and how how long and it will show me how many mAh I'm putting into the cell just to get it to the same voltage as the other cells

First recharge on a recently purchased multi tool, and I have the same problem. Did not keep my receipt, so I guess I am SOL trying to return it. Does NOT make me a raving Milwaukee fan. :( Addendum: I tried the trick of unplugging the battery cable as I was trying to charge the battery. In other words, I left the battery in the charger, unplugged it, and plugged it back in again. Worked like a charm.

Had the same thing goin on with a 6.0 in my 6 pack rapid charger, it wouldnt brick it but any battery i put in while the defective battery was flashing would either say all charged or all dead, regardless of actual battery status. I am currently experiencing the same situation with the same charger. Within the past two weeks I had a 6.0 and two 4.0's go out on me. I've talked to Milwaukee and I have to send the battery that is still under warranty, back to them. If you do happen to send a lithium ion battery back to Milwaukee, you'll need the proper label, paperwork, and find a location that will transport lithium ion batteries. In total, I am looking at approximately $300 in batteries that are down.

bought 4 XC 6.0 M12 batteries. Within three months two of the batteries would not charge. sent them to Milwaukee and they gave me two new batteries. three months later the other two batteries would not charge.... Going to send back. For the $120+ tax each that I paid for the batteries you'd think they'd be good quality. My 3.0 batteries which I bought back in 2012 are still going strong ironically.

I wanted to add something that may be helpful to some. My charger charges my 6.0 battery for about 15 seconds, then throws a flashing light. This particular symptom usually means one or more cells are overdischarged. Why would they be? Could be a number of things. Can it be fixed? Yes, all you need to do is run a voltage between 3.4 and 4.2v through the leads of the bad pack until the pack reads at least 3.4v. A "pack" refers to one group of cells in parallel. Once you have the groups above 3.4v reassemble them and the charger will begin to charge them normally. A crude way of doing this is with a chopped USB cord coming out of a power brick. USB runs on 5v and will also charge the packs, just be careful nothing gets hot. NOTE: if this fixed your battery, but the pack(s) overdischarged because they are old/worn cells, do not discharge the battery as much when using it, so it doesn't brick your battery again.
@mt186
@mt186 Жыл бұрын
How long do you put the USB charger on the battery for?
@MicroplaysMC
@MicroplaysMC Жыл бұрын
@@mt186 Depends. I can throw you some numbers but ideally you want to monitor the voltage and disconnect it before it overcharges. If you have a 6.0 battery, with a charger that puts out 1 amp, and the battery is 3v or less, leave it for about 30 minutes and check back. Please mind your safety and understand your circumstances. Do not not leave it completely unattended unless you know what you're doing. (And obviously, when checking the pack voltage, the charger must be disconnected)

@@MicroplaysMC interesting thing is my 6.0 is showing 10 volts but I jumped it off another fully charged 4.0 and got it up to 10.9, charger still says it's defective. I'm trying to get it over 11 volts to see what happens

@MicroplaysMC
@MicroplaysMC Жыл бұрын
@@mt186 In my case I had two pairs of cells show ~3.9v and the third pair was ~3.2v. The difference might as well be full compared to dead, the difference should only be maybe 10-20mV. A difference of 700mV is plenty to force the charger to reject it.

Milwaukee M12-18C. I found the cause of the failure (when connected without a battery to 12V it lights up green and red alternately) the MOSFET AP9565BGH in the 12V socket had a short circuit and the temperature damaged the PCB (it rose with the copper foil) I desoldered it and now the 18V socket works without problems -

What is going on with Milwaukee chargers? My M12 4.0 did the same thing as the video. M18/M12 RapidCharger blinks red/green then the charger trips, same thing with a new M12 charger. Unplug both charger, it will reset in about half an hour, leave it plug in won't reset. I pull out an old M12 charger (but never used) from the garage then it started charging and reach fully charger very fast within 10 seconds. That couldn't be, battery only half charged. I put it back to the same M18/M12 rapid charger then it starts to charge for about 15 minutes to fully charged. No idea why never used 5 year old M12 stored in the garage start it up when all the other charger just blinks red/green than tripped. Only variables are the M12 is older and garage is a little cooler. Maybe put the charger in the fridge then try if it works for you. BTW Milwaukee wanted about $80 since I couldn't find the receipt but believe purchased within the 3 year warranty.

I've never had my bad batteries "brick" any of my chargers , but I've got like 7 of those single M12 charges. An don't even use them cause I bought the 4 bay battery charger. But what I've had happen to a few basically brand new batteries, I've had it happen to 2 of the small 3 amp batteries. And 1 of the 6 amp batteries, both barely ever even used. Which I think it's cause I have too many batteries, and so I have to alternate them. An a lot of times some will sit around without being used, for too long I guess. And when I go to use them, even though they're never used. They no longer work, an so the flashing lights.

If your battery gets below a certain voltage these smart chargers won’t turn on to start a charge cycle, because they think it’s bad/defective. Batteries don’t go bad. What you need to to is jump it with another battery. Best done with another battery with same or more output. But can be done with a 9v if it’s all you have. Put a razor blade in between the positive terminal of each battery and another in the negative terminal of each battery. Take some alligator clips and connect the positives then negatives and allow to sit for about 2min. If your going to use say a 12v or 9v battery allow to sit for a bit longer. Take negatives off then positives and put your battery in the charger, viola. Should be back to using the battery weather for the first time or reviving a oldie but goodie. Hope this helped. Also, for anyone who has a trickle charger, you will have the same issue with a depleted battery. You might think the charger is bad or the battery and it’s only because when a battery is dead and only has a charge of say 5v or less, these newer chargers won’t read them and hence, will not charge them. You need to get a jump charge then proceed to use the charger.
@purkeypilot

This doesn't account for the fact that the battery that "needs jumping" broke the charger. Also, if the battery was so depleted as to not charge, then it wouldn't run the tools as he shows it still does in the video
