I am 73 and have listened to the Beach Boys for 50+ years. Brian's writing is second to none, Carl's lead vocals are nothing short of superb. His lead on "God Only Knows" is my favorite Carl's singing song. I was torn apart with his too early death and wish his family well.

To know Carl was to love him. I knew Dennis much better, however, was lucky enough to spend time with Carl and he had a presence that could inspire one to be a better person. The name Carl Wilson should always be said with reverence. I keep a candle from 98 benefit concert at The Roxy next to my bed to this day. Ricci Martin pronounced (Ricky) not Richie ... he was a dear friend of mine too and my husband toured with Ricci for over 10 years. "Heaven" one of my favorite songs. I was lucky enough to see Carl's solo band in 1980. Why don't you respectfully cover Dennis Wilson. The coolest man that ever lived. He had long hair before the Beatles and could sail his almost 60 foot boat by himself.

Carl had a really shy, sensitive singing voice until about the age of 20. I don't know what it was (puberty?) but he really started coming out of his shell in 1967 when he sang "Darlin'" and Carl was re-born as a "soul man"!

It's interesting to note that the guitar solo played by Pete Townshend of The Who on "I Can't Explain" sounds VERY similar to the solo played by Carl Wilson on "Dance, Dance, Dance" and that both were played on the 12-string Rickenbacker and came out at the same time in late 1964! So yes---that similarity is DEFINITELY there!
@DummyYEEEAAHHHHH Жыл бұрын
If I'm not mistaken Dennis was the first to "break ranks". His album Pacific Ocean Blue came out in 1977, now he may not have toured solo to promote it...but he was the first Beach Boy to have a solo record....and a fantastic masterpiece it is...anyway I love the video brother, it's a great tribute to the great Carl Wilson.

The song feel flows, touches my entire inner being, touches my soul, my entire psyche, it moves me, as does till I die, and the river song, I think the beach boys songs of the seventies are totally brilliant, good vibrations was a total masterpiece, in the sixties, pet sounds gave the Beatles a run for their money, and then all of their rock and roll songs before pet sounds were great, my favorites here were surfing u.s.a. and help me Rhonda, I saw them in concert once in the nighties. Had the cassette, endless summer, that I played the shit out of, my favorite entetertainers of the sixties for me we're at 3, the rolling stones, 2 the Beatles and 1 the beach boys, my favorite song for the sixties was the masterpiece, good vibrations, my interest In rock music goes back to 1954 and I lost it by the year 2000, the beach boys will always be one of my favorite entertainers, even younger generations loved them, I was born in May of 1968, around the time good vibrations came out

Mike Love refers to the two rival "camps" as The Druggies or the Free Livers ( Carl and Dennis) and the TMers (Transcendental Meditation, Mike and Al). When Brian started touring again in 1976, he was accompanied by two bodyguards whose job it was to keep Brian away from drugs, so he rode on the TMers plane. Bruce Johnston, when he rejoined the group around 1979, flew on the TMers' plane as well. Occasionally this split also extended to staying in separate hotels and entering and exiting the stage on separate sides.
