The Venator is my favourite ship, there's just something about it's design that's extremely satisfying to look at for me.

Idk why they wouldn't want to use them...they're faster because they're red.

It's sad that the venator just faded way, it's one of the most beautiful capitol ships from the movies.

I was rather disappointed when in Rebels, they needed to capture a dedicated carrier for their A-wings and they went for a _Quasar Fire_ class instead of a _Venator._ I understand _why_ they did, I just really love the Venator's design.

I wanted to write a story where a Jedi and their padawan teamed up with an Admiral to squirrel away a flotilla of Venators and Acclimators with no clones prior to order 66 because the padawan had a force vision of the doom of the Jedi but could only convince their master of it

I wonder if Han was talking about Venators when he told Obi-Wan and Luke "I've outrun Imperial Stardestroyers. Not the local bulk cruisers mind you, I'm taking about the big Corrilian ships now."

I just assumed over the 19 years between films, they took the old vessels to shipyards where they were disassembled and their parts were refurbished for use on newer ships. The few that weren't disassembled were probably sent off to places we never saw in films.

#askeck What happened to the CIS forces? I mean there where also thousands of ships, and BILLIONS of droids. Did they also go into private forces?

Since the 90s, Star Wars has suffered from this bizarre 'more cowbell' mentality where every number has to be orders of magnitude too large to be sensible. Before CGI, when ILM had to make the effects practically, they thought through the realities of what they were building. The fleets were realistic in scope and design. The battle of Endor, the ultimate showdown of the first trilogy, had a few dozen ships. The wiki says 30 Star Destroyers. That's a sensible fleet size. As soon as CGI makes ships a copy and paste matter, we get these utterly insane numbers mentioned. Thousands and thousands of ships with thousands and thousands of crew members. Literally tens of millions of people living their lives on Star Destroyers that fight … who exactly? It's just not thought through, because CGI doesn't force you to stop and think. Even at Endor, since someone went back and decided each Imperator had a crew complement of 37,500, that means that 1.25 MILLION men fought on the Empire's side in that fleet. In Episode 9, they say that the stupid vampire Final Order fleet will make the First Order force '10,000 times stronger'. They're already a sizeable force! Let's say that only have 10 Star Destroyers, that means Palptatine has conjured up 100,000 Star Destroyers, each with its own planet killing weapon! If the first order has 100 ships, that's 1 MILLION Star Destroyers that Palps has going through one antenna lol. I mean why does nobody do this maths? It renders Star Wars silly when it doesn't have to be. It's all so different from its 1970s beginnings when the ships were thoughtfully designed and fleets made sense. CGI is like sugar: you have to be an adult and not put the whole bag into the cake, or you spoil the cake.

Seems like Venator and Acclamator would make good prison barges. Park them in orbit, remove their main drives, they have the sensors to detect any approaching ship, the internal security to repel boarders (or riots), weapons to defend itself from anything short of a Cruiser and facilities to take care of tens of thousands of inmates and guards.

The "Tarkin Doctrine" was deeply flawed. OK, I understand that while the Imperials were largely comprised of "Humans" we are not talking about Humans from Earth. but The Battle of "Pearl Harbor" taught the United States and really the world just how powerful planes carrying bombs could be. Prior to WW2 most Naval barring nations thought that BATTLESHIPS would rule the Oceans and that the Nation with the most and best Battleships would be able to defeat Navies with smaller numbers of Battleships/outdated Battleships. During WW2 Naval barring nations found out that it was the Aircraft Carrier that would decide which nation ruled the Oceans. "The Rebels/Alliance" would never be able to match the Empire when it came to Capital Ships, they needed to do fast hit and run tactics to survive. This is where the Venator Class ship would have come in handy. Form ISD wings consisting of 2 ISD and 1 Venator class ship, ALWAYS have around 5-10% of your Tie Fighters already launched (consider it training) this way in the event of a Rebel surprise attack you would already have your fighters launched and they could keep the rebel fighters occupied until you were able to get the rest of your fighters out to protect your Capital ships *IN* the event of a Large Scale attack that 5 - 10 % would still be enough to occupy enemy fighters long enough to get your fighters into the action to win the battle. the ISD1&2 carried 72 Tie Fighters (a total of 144) so 10% would mean around 14 Ties in space at all times but the Venator carried 420 so with those 3 ships traveling as a group 5% would mean 28 and 10% would mean 56 (MORE THEN ENOUGH) to repel all but the largest of Rebel "Surprise Attacks"

I really like the similarities between Star Wars capital ships and real life navies. I see the venator as an American cruiser like the uss indianapolis and the star destroyer as a Heavy battleship etc.

Even though the Dreadnaught-class wasn't produced anymore, they were so abundant that they were still used by the Galactic Alliance after the Yuuzhan Vong War.

My New year's resolution is to like every video I actively don't dislike and actually like the ones that I love. I always felt bad leaving you and Spacedock's channels without love because I click, watch, and forget. But no more!

An excellent stand alone movie could be an Oceans 11 esque movie about the rebellion stealing The Negotiator.

I'm just amazed at how quickly the Star Wars universe pumps out fleets of ships.

I loved to use the Venator in Empire at war. They are a true legend. In legends, they even served still 59 years after the Clone Wars, like with Admiral Dalla and her Maw Irregular Fleet. At least two were used in the Evacuation of Dac in 137 ABY. Quite impressive for such an old ship

#ASKECK here's something that's bothered me for awhile. Do the Venators have 2 command bridges? If so, why? If not, then what's at the top of that second tower?

What do you see happening to the Arquitens class? I know it's basically a canon-only ship due to the fact it was introduced in TCW, and it features pretty heavily in new canon material set before and during the Galactic Civil War, but it makes no appearance in any fleet battles in the OT, and it is still very much a Republic design. #askeck

that hi-res Dreadnaught-class heavy cruiser looks so cool. Probably my favourite Star Wars ship-of-the-line-of-battle (it's not a 'capital ship', right?) design :D Just needs a co-axial long range battery. Then field 'em in fleets of 10-15k each. 'Legend of the Galactic Heroes'-style. :D

Venators + Thrawn and his military doctrine = swift and easy Galactic Civil War for the Empire.

Still used by the Empire for different roles, used by Rebels to fight the Empire, melted down to make new ships, and crime syndicates using them to acquire power.

What happened to the seperatist ships after the clone wars?

It seems the transition can be compared to world war 2 tanks to first generation mbt's or battleships to modern cruisers/carriers. They mostly get sold, put in reserve or scrapped. Some are relegated to other roles (like battleships to shore bombardment as seen with the Iowa-class battleship, some of which where decommissioned as late as 1995). Great video Eckhart :)

Excellent vid and brilliant reference to the Cross Sections book on how by RotS Venators were already phased out for Imperators while Victories were already floating around. Hence why we see ISDs so quickly after Order 66 - they and the Victories were simply already there ALTHOUGH I believe it was the book Tarkin and/or Thrawn they did not have yet enough ISDs or Victories to cover so the Venator did the leg work.

It comes from the fact that a baseline imperial or Victory I/Victory II completely outclassed the venator in every way. Or because they couldn’t repair it making it expensive to fix it’s like having a 1987 bmw vs having a 2018 bmw finding the parts for the latter is cheaper because it is more readily available!

great video! just a note about the in universe calendar: The Rusaan Reformation took place in 1,000 bby. Supreme Chancellor Palpatine states that he will not let this republic which has lasted a thousand years be torn in two. The clone wars started in 22bby or 978 years after the Rusaan Reformation (or a thousand years if you are making broad generalized statements). I think it makes sense that the republic would have officially reset their calendar using the Rusaan Reformation as Year 1, so that makes the in universe year something like 978 RR... Anyway, just my 2 cents. that's what I used for the clone wars rpg I ran for my nephews.

A cool video to do would be. How the war would have went if the rebels got their hands of some of the republic capital ships. I've always loved the vennitors.

Maybe a video on what happened to all the Seperatist forces? I know they were deactivated but they still had to be disposed off and the ships themselves would still he of some value/use

I wish that in these anthology films set between A New Hope and Revenge of the Sith, they would include a bit more Clone War-era stuff in the Imperial Military. We did see a re-purposed Juggernaut Tank in Rogue One being used as a prison bus, and that was awesome. But in Solo, I would've loved to have seen a distant Venator just hanging out near Mimban. Just to show that there was at least one still around.

Your video reinforces my belief that many Venators would have ended up in the hands of the Rebellion. If they were pushed out to outlying regions, they would have been easy targets for the Rebellion to acquire, especially before Mon Cal Cruiser production was increased. Given the Rebellions reliance on fighters, these ships would be prime acquisitions. The rebels would have also modified the Venators to fill different rolls. I would love to see a Rebel fleet with Mon Cals and Venators.

It only made sense if the Venator and acclimator were both seen in the early parts of rebels and slowly dissapear in favor of the victory and ISD. Also thanks for another great video!
