The police academy is a good way to test people to see if they’re ready for the job. It also builds solidarity amongst the recruits.

My academy was a lot like a community college course. We get to go home every day.

I am from Serbia (Balkan, and no, it's not Russia xD) And here, we have (thank you God) not so much shootings (school, in city etc.) but we had some big mass shootings in couple years back, but we don't have so much chasing, shooting everyday, and stuff like you can see in whole America...and i just want to say, people here, also, don't see cops on cool image, and most of them hate the cops (including me, back then when i didn't know what you need to have to become one of them) But, now, when i talked to some of them, and when i watch one of these types of videos, i need to say just one: Thank you all for this shit, for protecting people and risking your own lifes! So for everyone who is the cop, or wants to become one of them, i wish you all the best and once again, thank you! :)

I have no idea how I ended up here at almost 2am on a Monday where I have to get up in 4 hours and go to my mild corporate job... but I'm not sad. Morning me is going to disagree but you're worth it. Possibly stupid question time from a citizen pleeb: do they give language lessons? So many officers sound SO similar I can easily identify you guys even in plain clothes. Not just verbiage, the actual intonation and flows of speaking. It's always interested me and wanted to ask but haven't ever seemed to find a good time to do it (don't want to be one of those people interrupting during the one 15 minute break the office gets in their 12 hr shift). Subscribed for sure.

The first PT test I did I remember this one dude dressed up in his army gear and parked directly in a handicap spot. I was talking to a few guys about the test and all of a sudden we heard yelling. Washington state patrol trooper literally starting yelling at this dude and told him to go home. The guy than started yelling back. Needless to say he got kicked out and arrested for disobeying orders. Trooper told all of us, it all starts with doing the right things the first time.

You seem like a good dude. Gives me hope that there's plenty of awesome cops. I like that you're actually opening up personally and not being some tight ass tough guy.

Sorry your weekend was so bad! 😞 That would have been very frustrating! I had an awesome weekend because I achieved something that I really have been training for. I climbed the stairs at the CN Tower in Toronto! My goal was to reach the top in 35 minutes (which I really didn't know if I could do it) and I ended up doing it in 29 minutes and 45 seconds! 😊 Very happy! Thank you for your service sir! I have to say is...wow!... My academy (MI) was certainly not as relaxed as you portrayed GA’s to be 😂. It was more of a “boot-camp” style as you mentioned. Started at 7:30am and went to at least 9-10pm at night (none of this 8a-5p stuff lol), stayed in dorms, etc.

Just passed the CVSA test with my local department and waiting on a possible offer...thanks Officer401 for all the helpful and entertaining videos!

You can recover the stuff off the backup drive, at least a majority of it if you haven't done a lot with the drive.

Every Monday for PT at my active duty Army unit we did five mile runs to flush out all the alcohol from that weekend. You could easily tell who the Sunday night drinkers were. lol Great video sir! Can't wait to see the FTO video! :)

San Diego doesn't have dormitories, we have to rent out on our own. Good part is we get to go home every day after the academy and relax / study. Downside, San Diego has expensive rent rates. Still worth the experience.

There’s a doctor that’s really popular on KZfaq that watches different medical shows and reviews the accuracy and teaches a bit about why they’re doing what they’re doing. I would love to see that in a police setting.

Brother your acad experience sounds so much better than all of my cop buddies storys. Most of my friends went to MLEOTA (Mississippi) and all of them say it was hell on earth. I know many ex military that have went thru there military basics then MLEOTA and said it was way harder

My academy in Georgia is known as an Academic Police Academy. The most PT that we did was basic push ups and stretching exercises for our one week of Defensive Tactics training, where we basically kicked the crap out of each other.

Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department Eugene Biscailitz Regional Traning Center and College Of The Canyons are the only two academies with the LASD and both of them are no longer on base living and its been like that since 1983 when the Eugene Biscailitz Regional Training Center academy closed due to lack of space, but it reopened in June 2014 and it hosted the first class in over 30 years the next month and it continues to be that way to this day. The way the LASD academies are now that you go to your class early in the morning by starting out with Physical Training and then you will report to the classroom or other hands on training. The academy classes would be 22 weeks long monday through friday and you would get to go home every night and sometime you would have to come back for a big exam on weekends sometimes for the ones that are mandated by California Peace Officer Standards & Training

401 with his crazy door stories again. Also for northeast AL academy, you stay on the army base for everything. Here its 4 days a week of class.

I'm in the LA Sheriff Department hiring process right now. The academy is not a live in academy. You get paid in academy, but housing is not included. You just stay at home and commute to academy everyday.

Academy sounds just like the Army's Officer Leadership Course, 5 months of PT in the morning and classes till 1700-1800, followed by field training exercises and evaluations.

I went through GPSTC. In Rome Georgia, got out a few months ago. Evoc was ok, the braking test was fun as hell, I hated the skid pad

Correction: LA Sheriff doesnt have dorms. We live at home and go to class every day in car pools.

Word of advice bro, external drives and no less than 2 backups. I’m a professional photographer and have an external HDD I work on plus 2 backups HDD and 1 backup on blue ray. That’s my set up but I always recommend no less than 2 backup drives because your primary and first backup could fail.

Video topic suggestion... 1st amendment auditors. That youtube community is gaining a lot of popularity. They film and take pictures of the police and public places ( inducing encounters with the police or any other authorities or public servants )

I'm currently doing EVOC Basics and Traffic Stop training, it's pretty simple but also you gotta be precise.

Ours is 40 hrs. 20 in the classroom and 20 on the pad
