I know it sounds simple, but what about a sandbag retaining wall? How many sandbags would you need in front of you to survive an RPG? They are great for stopping lead projectiles, as they shred themselves inside the sandbag. However, I would imagine an explosive would be a different case. Maybe even making the sandbags dangerous? Would be interesting to see!
@jarink1
@jarink1 3 ай бұрын
Theoretically, sandbags should protect better than the cinderblock wall? The danger from the cinderblocks was the large chunks produced and thrown at the targets. Sand would be more like very, very, tiny birdshot and while doing a lot of superficial damage not have much energy to penetrate to get at bones, organs, etc.

Unfortunately they wouldn't be able to test it against an actual RPG rocket. The most commonly used RPG rocket is a HEAT warhead, rather than these high explosive rounds. When it comes to actually penetrating something, that warhead is going to make a huge difference. It's a shame RPG warheads are difficult to get in the US, because there are some pretty fascinating ones I'd love to see. The closest warhead to what's used here is the OG-7V, a fragmentation warhead. There's also the TBG-7V, a thermobaric warhead with almost 2kg explosive inside. High Caliber Mayhem has a recent video on it, it's insane. They're shooting into an open-roofed house with proper bricked and cemented walls, 2 bricks thick. The PG-7VL, the regular HEAT warhead, punches a nice hole about the size of the rocket into the wall from the inside, but doesn't do much in the room itself. Then they fire the TBG-7V into it, and it just destroys everything. The hole in the wall is expanded to a meter in diameter, while the entire room is engulfed in flame for a second and is left smoking afterwards. Loads of debris from the room and walls is sent flying inside. They also nearly caused a wildfire, as the grass about 10 meters outside of the hole in the wall catches fire. I'd love to see what such a warhead does on ballistic dummies in high speed.

A Simple solution to remove questions of concussion damage are balistic discs like Mythbusters used and G-Force discs.... if one or both go off, you know the concussive blast damaged internal organs beyond a doubt and collapsed lungs or other organs.... i.e. DEAD BOB
@imahotdog1000
@imahotdog1000 3 ай бұрын
that's not what those are, the discs you are referring to are pressure burst discs that are rated to break under certain concussive blast shockwave pressures but there also are other devices for measuring G-force thresholds that an object experiences which are called G-force indicator labels and the mythbusters also used those all the time

I mean with all these lovely RPG videos coming out, it would be interesting to see you shoot a shaped charge (HEAT) warhead at a armor, although I have no idea, what are the safety and other issues. we all know those are not to be taken lightly. now to be perfectly fair you don't really need to shoot a rocket either, since you can just set a stationary shaped charge at a proper standoff distance from the armor as it still replicates the penetrative effect of a warhead, but at least the size of the shaped charge, angle of the cone, the material of the cone and the standoff distance all have an effect on the formation of the shaped charge jet and its penetration. you can also create an explosively formed penetrator instead of the jet with a flatter angle of the cone. the next step would be to test the shaped charge against some or even multiple different types of composite armor arrays, since you can find actual schematics of their composition on the internet and they have used materials like air, aluminium, fiberglass and/or ceramics inside steel as the point is often to keep armor effective against shaped charge warheads while also lowering its weight by using different materials inside the steel. there can also be a spall liner made of UHMWPE or aramid fibers behind the armor itself to catch any possible spall that could harm the crew, since you don't need to always penetrate the armor to create spalling. another step would be to also test explosive reactive armor, but they might not be as easy to built as there are more intricate considerations with the explosive used and the parameters of the metal plate that is fed in front of the shaped charge jet by the explosion. for ERA to work correctly it needs to be at an angle, but it determining that and everything else is definitely not easy. working with two different explosives, one for the shaped charge and one for the ERA, is definitely a massive safety consideration too. there are ERAs that work against kinetic penetrators, but they usually have heavier metal plates and also have multiple in one ERA element. finally one type of ERA uses shaped charges inside its elements, although I'm not certain on the details of its operation. speaking of explosives another form of warhead is high-explosive plastic or high-explosive squash head, which basically means that you smack a some plastic explosive against the armor plate and then blow it up in the hopes that the force of the explosion will transfer through the armor and create spalling at the other side without achieving penetration. usually composite armors, even with just air gaps, work well against this type of warhead, but the amount of plastic explosive does still matter, since enough high explosives will do the job regardless or damage critical components, which is why tanks are also vulnerable to typical high-explosive shells from artillery for example. now to be fair some NERA arrays do work in a similar fashion to ERA, but they use the propertios of rubber or similar materials and a backing plate to feed a properly aligned metal plate in front of the shaped charge jet as well. the difference with ERA is that NERA does usually have multiple layers separated by air. NERA would probably be the safer and easier option due to less explosives being involved. they do work to some degree against kinetic penetrators, so you could perhaps first try building one that works against bullets and then go from there. anyhow that is most certainly enough rambling text for today and for anyone interested in knowing more I would recommend Technology of Tanks by Richard Ogorkiewicz.

Few years ago an improvised mortar round hit and exploded next to my friends car, I believe it was similar to 81mm mortar. He was in a Ford Focus, and the shrapnel went from side to side into the concrete barricade in the middle of the street, while my friend was behind the wheel. Luckily he survived, and didn't sustain any permanent injuries but he suffered from a punctured lung, a broken arm, a broken T bone, a punctured shoulder blade, and a longitudinal fracture of the femur, in addition ro hundreds of shrapnel in different parts of his body. His head alone had like 70 bits of metal of different sizes.

You need to do an rpg straight on engine block right under the hood emblem. And straight into the trunk latch.

The sunroof glass was really cool, it undulated like it was a fluid yet didn't break or crack (I assume it was laminated glass and not tempered).

Shoot a rocket at a metal sheet that is thick enough to not be overpressured that's angled upwards to see the rocket and explosion deflecting and maybe have a camera pointed at the back to see if there's any spalling

I remember back in the day, Mythbusters had some G-force measuring patches, they stuck to their dummy (Buster. Often not a ballistic gel dummy, but hard plastic) to assess collision forces.... I think they had some, that broke at 5 G, 10 G, 20 G... Paired with knowledge about how much acceleration the body can withstand before you die, it gave some interesting insight. I think it would add to your very interesting videos if you utilised those patches. As one of you said "He definitely experienced TBI" - you could roughly quantify that. 👍👍. Take care!

I want to see the rocket hit the back of the car like in movies how they’re driving away and the rocket hits the rear axel the car flys in the air and the hero walks away from it somehow. Lets see that in high speed! I love what youre doing and happy to see everyone safe and healthy.

If you want to go a bit up in tech, you could install 1 or 2 accelerometers to measure the force the body is taking (which will be x4 lethal). I mean if you go with the chestplate armor version.
