Great video again Kevin - I was going to do one on a similar topic! The chart you have at 9:20 indicates (and to quote an accounting term) there is a "permanent timing difference" that arises in hair loss once you commence finasteride. A good analogy in my view is that everybody is on the "slap-head/balding" train, its just some folks trains obviously go faster than others, with Finasteride putting the 'breaks' or in some cases reversing the trains journey. Great content as usual. EDIT: Agreed on Ketoconazole, if any effect its immaterial on its own and think its a waste of effort / $$ as an adjunct treatment.

Fan favourite. Grateful. Still not convinced fin doesn’t retain some or all minox gains. Will try it one day. Hoping it will. I imagine perceived catchup hair ‘Loss’ possibly due to loss of sync unison of medicate follicles growth cycles (apparent thinning) and rapid initial shed. Would be interested to see pics of temple regrowth and subsequent loss of same ‘new hairs.

Hey Kevin, very interesting video as usual ! Just a little question : I could theoretically use Fluridil only for a year (since it's expensive...) and then stop it after getting some thickening and regrowth of my hair ? And of course finasteride would basically maintain those freshly grown/thicker hair ? Ps : i'm already on finasteride + minoxidil. Working great but looking for some more regrowth 👍. Does fluridil only for a year could be useful or just a complete waste of time ? (Just looking for an extra boost).

Hey kevin, can water quality (hard water) affect hair growth and even cause hair loss? Im thinking that calcium/copper and other stuff that could be pipes for water i use to shower could be making water "hard", because my hair has breakage and has thinned alot and considering im getting a shower filter to see if that helps. I am hormonally female/castrate taking androgen blockers and dutasteride as well as minoxidil, microneedling, biotin 10k and vitamin d3 20k. I cant think of anything causing hairloss besides that and prolactin. Have you debunked "hard water" yet? Thankx.

@kazaakas 2 жыл бұрын
@@ASMRyouVEGANyet Yeah it's difficult, as it will definitely cause birth defects if you get pregnant and the baby is a boy. But if you're not going to get pregnant, finasteride is actually really safe for women. But doctors are so scared to have a birth defect on their hands that they generally don't want to prescribe. If you really understand these risks, you could always try gray market sources. What also complicates the issue is that for women it's harder to determine whether the hair loss is androgenic at all, because it doesn't follow a distinguishable pattern. It often gets misdiagnosed as telogen effluvium etc. But in fact, many women get androgenic hair loss at some point, it's just that if it is mild and slow, it's not very noticeable due to being diffuse.

@@ASMRyouVEGANyet I was 19 when I started taking it. I’m 21 now. I got Finasteride because I went to the best trichologist in my country (he is a medical doctor specialised in dermatology but also trichology - this is the type of doctor I recommend you see, not just a dermatologist or not just a trichologist who is not a doctor) and he was in the frontline of studies of side effects of Finasteride on women (his research basically led him to conclude that the side effects are not that prominent and that this is one of the most promising treatments for women and he has been prescribing it for decades). It’s not something you should get online. You should see a doctor. You also should be on some form of birth control (preferably non hormonal) to avoid pregnancy while you are on it.

I would recommend to everybody going bald to at least give a try to finasteride during 1 year. It has been the best decision I made and not surprisingly, it is the only treatment that really worked for me (I had tried everything before switching to finasteride, absolutely everything). 1 year of treatment no sides and a very good improvement. Sadly I am a non responder to minoxidil (low sulfo-transferase activity), confirmed by a genetic test (Trichotest by Fagron). I tryed also combining minox with retinoic acid but nothing happened. 3 wasted years. I am starting to lower the dose every week and finally leave it. My conclusion, START WITH FINASTERIDE, also do a Trichotest and maybe after 1 year try other stuff that you could respond to (assessed by the test) Thanks for your motivational videos Kevin, you are the best at it! You helped me a lot!

You probably will not see my commenter since this video was posted a year ago but… I got prescribed minoxidil but it wasn’t because of alopecia or anything it was from heat damage to my hair and I have fine hair. I went to people who specialize in hair and they told me to take minoxidil 2.5 Mg for 6 months. Would I still have to take this for the rest of my life ?

Hey Kevin, you're awesome. Is it possible to make a choice between Finasteride and Duasteride based on DHT in the blood? Is there any logic in this? Suppose, according to my analyzes, my DHT is 1439 (reference values are 250 - 999) and this is clearly a lot. Maybe I need to block more DHT than finasteride does. I am 20 years old, diffuse thinning all over my head.

Kevin, Say you’re a person first noticing hair loss who wants improvement and immediately hops on fin and min (as many men do). Say that you’re a case where you would’ve improved with fin monotherapy (as many men are). If you’re on fin and min for a long period, have improvement, then withdraw minoxidil (as many men ultimately do), do you think that you revert to where you were at the start of treatment or to where you would’ve been had you only been on fin the entire time? We know that users of min monotherapy have progression of hair loss “in the background,” but my question essentially is whether or not fin with min also reverses loss “in the background.” Thanks

This video was something I really needed, I'm really sensitive to Minoxidil even to just applying 2% on my temples once a day So I had to drop on it on my second week of Finasteride, It's been 3 months since I've started Finasteride but now I'm experiencing a really bad shedding and losing all of the baby hairs on my temples It concerns me if Finasteride isn't enough and my hair loss is just too aggressive, that's why I'm thinking of switching to Dutasteride asap as I'm afraid I wouldn't gain back the ground I'll have lost

Pretty sure I have complete halted my hair loss. Been on fin for nearly 3 months alongside oral minox. Can’t thank you enough for getting me past the fearful stage of starting Finasteride. There is nothing to fear guys... get on it ASAP!!!!!!!!!!!! Quick question Kev... once I get to a good place regarding my hair, am I good to switch from oral minox to topical minox? Will I lose gains? I was not a responder so I had to mix it with Tretinoin but it made my scalp burn and peel like mess, hence me going to oral. But I’d much rather make the switch back and deal with the peeling rather than long term use on oral. So what do you think? Will switching from oral back to topical mess up my gains?

Hey Kevin Love your content, you totally got me over the fin fearmongering! However i am hoping to get you opinion on this. I am 24 and started minoxidil back in the of summer 2020 when I was 22, do to your channel. Din't really get any noticable results on it, so I started finasteride 0,5 mg daily in august 2021 and stopped minoxidil in july, as I was getting exess hairgrowth on the rest of my body. Its been nine month on finasteride now and I haven't really gotten any results I think my individual hairs has thickend up, but i have lost more hairs in general. Do you think my finasteride results might be postponed do to the fact that I stoppet minoxidil, or am I just a bad respondent to both of these treatments. Any good advice? I just started alfatradiol to help finasteride.

Hey Kevin, long time viewer. Currently at work so I don't have time to watch the video so if this question gets answered in the video, I'm terribly sorry! I was wondering if using minoxidil while on finasteride, then weening off minoxidil while still on finasteride, causes the new hairs grown from minox alone to stay since they're not actively being targeted by DHT anymore? Thank you!
@haircafekevin
@haircafekevin 2 жыл бұрын
The new hairs are still being targeted by DHT. So you will lose some ground if you stop minoxidil while on finasteride, but not as much if you were just on minoxidil alone.

Hey Kevin. What is you view on WAY-200070? In the past you have talked about how adding estrogen to a regimen is horrible if you’re a man, because of the side effects. With WAY-200070 from what I understand is that it just stimulates the estrogen receptor beta. I have no clue if this is done without side effects or not and if this could be a treatment that is good for the future of hairloss. What are your thoughts?
@haircafekevin
@haircafekevin 2 жыл бұрын
Data is very limited on it so far, although mechanistically that at least sounds interesting since we know estrogen is a powerful hair growth stimulant. I would still worry about side effects so for the time being there isn't enough research to conclude if this treatment is safe in men.

@haircafekevin
@haircafekevin 2 жыл бұрын
No, don't start from a position of compromise. 1 mg is the best researched dose and it is what you should start with. You should titrate down only if you get sides in which case the next step is a lower oral dose like 0.5 or 0.25 MG, not topical which still goes systemic.
