Forgiveness does not always mean reconciling or letting that person who has wronged us back into our lives at some point either. There is such a thing as forgiveness without trying to re establish a relationship with the person, as it all depends on the person and the situation and how you guys got there in the first place.

I agree, but I know a narcissist who is arrogant & entitled (not insecure). He proposed marriage on a second date. We were still strangers. Thank God I severed ties & never looked back.

@@nomiddlenamenmn427 It can be difficult to deal with someone who has a narcissistic personality. Individuals suffering from narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) believe they are superior to others. Narcissists are incapable of empathizing with others. Narcissists just do not consider how their actions effect others. Find Out More About Narcissistic Personality Disorder. Narcissism is characterized by low self-worth/confidence/esteem. Because of their poor self-esteem, they are prone to becoming envious. To recapitulate, higher degrees of narcissism have been linked to overparenting, a lack of warmth, leniency, overvaluation, and childhood mistreatment. Narcissists are produced by permissive parenting styles. Narcissists have avoidant or anxious attachment patterns, or some combination of the two. People with insecure attachment styles experience basic insecurity as a result of their relationships with early caregivers. Generally, defending yourself against narcissists is a waste of time. You are not required to justify or explain your feelings or thoughts. The more you do, the more likely it is that they will gaslight you in order to cause self-doubt. Because a narcissist requires ongoing attention, smiling and nodding is a wonderful method to provide it to them without committing to more conversation. Seek the assistance of a professional. Yep. No, forgiving won't change the past, but neither will continuing to harbor grudge/s. Forgiving has nothing to do with pardoning the individual/s, like the offense never happened. It's merely giving yourself permission (if you will) to detach from the individual/s.

Just Preaching but no solutions. People who hold grudges intellectually know all of that and wish they could let go, but there is no button to turn it off. You can do all the self-talk and meditation in the world, but when you don’t wanna think of a pink elephant, all you can think of is the pink elephant. Wanting something/ needing something is different than being able to make it happen. If there is a pill for that, I’ll take it tomorrow. I honestly yearn for a day when people treat our brains like our spines. We have certain thoughts in your brain because there is a biological/revolutionary reason for this trait to exist, not a moral failure or a character flaw. A day when we stop using the word evil to describe people but instead use the word "sick". Not justifications but understanding without overly glorifying mental illness as artistic expressions or "unique" if it harm society or prevents the person from living their best life. I have to constantly remind myself of human fragility to be able to forgive, reading evolution psychology books or even imagining them naked or babies, but it’s a constant process.

That is the absolute truth. My sister n law keeps holding grudges against me. She is not letting my only brother see me, as a way to hurt me. My brother also thinks similar to her beliefs, and holds grudges against me. The thing is, I never intentionally did anything to them. They expect people to do and say things their way, or they are wrong. I have helped them tremendously. Well I decided to love them from a distance and let them be who they are. I love, and forgive them. We all have made some mistakes. I dont need to keep begging for their forgiveness. I will keep them in prayer.

I am sorry to hear that. When I see people that shut their families out over such minor and unimportant things and it makes me so sad to see. Some people are so insecure that they can’t possibly understand other people make mistakes or misspeak and can’t be perfect all the time. I’ve noticed that some people have super high or unrealistic expectations of everyone around them and constantly cut people out, and it’s their way of manipulating the situation to be the “winner”. Sadly, I think those people tend to lead lonely lives because nobody is perfect and everyone makes mistakes. I hope your SIL and brother will eventually come around and see how silly it is to cut people out over small things. You sound like a wonderful, kind, and loving sister and I wish you the best!

One thing I've learned is, not to pressure yourself to forgive someone immediately, if you need space from someone for however long THAT IS OKAY!! & probably needed. If you " forgiven" someone ( but not really) and probably not really and still interact with that person, you'll probably cause more damage to yourself or the other person. I wish in a previous friendship, I would have said something like " I need more time, I don't know when I will get back to you, I don't know if or how, but right now I need space and I will process this anger and hurt towards you that I have right now, with God and with myself and even if we do reconnect, boundaries will have to be put in place from now on. But for now, I release you to God".

Protect yourself of course, keep your boundaries from your enemies, but we both did not always acknowledge all of those individuals throughout our life who deserved compassion. I'm not talking about our enemies. Think about all the people we crossed paths with who were so kind, meek, shy, lonely, felt unloved, unappreciated, had no friends or family, etc, most of whom we had either avoided, ignored, or dismissed, thought we were too cool, or we just did not care enough about them, etc.

Analogy: know how with some video games, you can enter codes that, for instance, give your character infinite energy, infinite ammo in their weapons, etc.? I wanted to give thanks for all the inconsiderate and short sighted videos and viewpoints surrounding this topic, i really do. Cause you see...What this philosophy of “letting go” probably says about you, is that you are a gutless and fairly hypocrite person. In a heavily industrialized world, where you need to keep close connections, and keep a close watch on the impression you are making, it is no surprise that represing and denying perfectly sane and natural emotions will be expected of you. The truth is that emotions that cause conflict, like sadness or rage, are not considerate productive, and that’s the real reason they are overlooked, since they focus on your past. And yes, it will cost you a certain amount of suffering along the way, but you know what? I wouldn’t have it any other way. That’s why i give thanks. Because all these videos have done, is help me own my grudges. Even wear them proudly. Because i’ll rather learn from the emotions of my past, as painful as it may be, before rolling over and keep on going blindly, as if nothing happened. As if I was devoid of memory. You can’t stand the suffering? Good for you. Just don’t come near me with you high road, cause for me, denying “negative” emotions doesn’t really make you more healthy or sane as a person. It just turns you into an empty smile. And it also makes you a pussy.
@desicastillo629
@desicastillo629 3 жыл бұрын
You don’t have to deny your negative emotions to let go of grudges. You more or so take control of those emotions, and react in a different way. Nothing solves a situation or makes you look more right by using your emotions or anger out on the other person if they’ve done you wrong. It’s kinda like watching dogs fight once one dog starts biting on the others neck and then they just go at it. But we are more than our primal instincts. We have the ability to think before we do things and look at situations objectively so why not use that to our advantages. Holding grudges only makes you look insecure and weak, and an overall miserable person. But we can all be miserable at times, so not judging you. Some more than others tho, that’s really up the individual. But life is too short to hold on to tension, choose your battles. I hope you have a nice day

Be selfish I'm serious. Be selfish Ask yourself "will this make me happy?" Does it make you happy when you get angry about being wronged? Does it improve _your_ life when you reflect on every wrong others have ever done? No. It doesn't make you happy. And it certainly doesn't fix anything. Ever. I have never met anyone who said "I'm just so glad I lost my temper. I have never met a heart doctor who says "grudges make you live longer" I have never met a mental health expert who said "grudges make people happy" because they don't. I just pick and choose my battles, I’m gonna make my point and then let it go. I don’t feel the need to hold a grudge over somebody, if it’s affecting me that bad then I’ll just stay away from them permanently. By consistently holding a grudge against someone only shows that you’re no different than them, if not worse. What looks to me is you’re doing nothing but projecting what you really are… Projection is an unconscious defense mechanism stemming from the ego. In projection, you take an unacceptable part of yourself, such as your feelings, thoughts, tendencies, and fears, disown it, and place it onto someone else. Projections contain your blind spots…

I get that holding grudges is unhealthy and conceivably "wrong," but it definitely isn't unnatural. I don't think we should reduce people's character because of grudge holding, or make it _their_ problem. The circumstances could make it fair enough. Take me for example. I know a woman (let's call her Helen) who was very thoughtless toward my feelings. I work dining services at a university, and she temporarily came to work in 2022 summer. We did not get off to a good start, and it's my fault. I _stupidly_ started a sensitive topic (I don't want to say it). She proposed a transition in topic, and she was right. I don't remember our moments so well since then (I don't think we really interacted too much anyway), but I remember this one particular bad day. I was chatting with a girl while waiting for her desserts for a service to be ready, and Helen came in and said, "Harassing the baker, John?" I said, "And why do you assume that?" and she said, "Because you're John." That hurt me enough to sit far away from her and another coworker during a lunch break. She said, "Wow, John, you must really not like us, and I gave a facial expression that basically said, "Yeah, well..." The other coworker was like, "Oh, John," and I passive-aggressively said, "You're fine [name]." I think Helen got the message. But what's funny is she never seemed to have connected the clues _why_ I was upset with her. I mean, I heard from a coworker that Helen knew I was upset with her (they spoke). So, she knew something was wrong, but not what, and also hesitated to come to me about it. And that's the third line she crossed. First, was accusing me of harassing the girl. Second, was willingly answering my question with a "John-bashing" answer when I *clearly* showed *offense* in said question. Three, not seeing what was wrong and that her answer was insensitive. Sometimes, if a person does something wrong, it's extra wrong to require an explanation to get it; they should be able to get it on their own. Helen should've just realized how she undermined me. I feel very bad if I hurt her feelings and for the bad first impression. That's my fault. But she didn't have to insult my personality. And we'll probably never solve it, unless we talk about it. And anyway, I'm disgusted she never understood. You gotta be a real jerk to undermine someone and not get it.

It doesn’t do any good holding onto a bag of poo plus God don’t want this for us . We are to forgive all others as we want forgiveness.

Tell me what is getting even? Punishment? Revenge? Because it will never end and 2 wrongs don't make a right? How will that make you a better person?

Holding a grudge is pretty weak. If you don't like what they did to you, tell them. Walking out of someone's life and expecting them to hurt from your absence is a shitty thing to do. Edit: Especially if it's someone that cares about you

What’s worse is for them to sabotage the relationship. He wrote a list of things that upset him from four years back. Future faked and dumped leading me to think we were in a good place. He did lots of not nice things and verbal emotional abuse to me in past and I never held it against him
