If you're feeling ready to share more info, it would be really cool if you could give us more behind the scenes info on how you prepared to start auditioning for companies again ( not regarding divorce info, but like when did you move back to New York, how long did you stay, were you always taking the classes you mentioned in the day of the life vlog, when did you audition, who did you audition for, how hard was it moving from New York to Miami/how the heck do you even move an apartment full of stuff that far, was it hard to leave New York to go start at a new company, did you get to go home between New York and Miami, etc, etc). Just really miss hearing the everyday logistics from our favourite ballerina and would love to hear some of the more "boring" parts of the journey. It doesn't have to be super personal, it would just be really cool to hear more about the final stretch of the back to the stage journey that we didn't really get to see. Also would be an easier video to film after a long day of rehearsal and combines your two main video formats (ballet instruction/advice and story times).

This isn't just Kathryn; everytime I see an American youtuber talking about what they eat, I get baffled by the cultural differences. Especially about coffee (or caffeine) restrictions and the mention of vitamins and supplements. If it wasn't for KZfaq, I wouldn't even know those things existed.

Ana Luisa Barbosa Rodrigues , can I ask what the differences are in what you eat/ drink? I’m just genuinely curious. TIA
@aaaaaaaaa26810
@aaaaaaaaa26810 5 жыл бұрын
@@AllieQueenofNarnia I can't say for all the people in Brazil (where I'm from), but based on my life (and of the people around me) the three biggest differences are: 1) we eat very little for breakfast and a lot for lunch. The idea of eating eggs for breakfast is very alien to me. 2) any restriction to coffee. We drink coffee all day long. Morning, evening, after lunch, after dinner, when you go visit a friend they usually serve you coffee. And everyone drinks it: adults, children, pregnant ladies... And decaf coffee is non-existente unless you live in São Paulo or Rio de Janeiro 3) vitamins and supplements aren't common and you only take them if there is something off with your health. Some people are starting to take vitamins now, but it's still unusual.

Ana Luisa Barbosa Rodrigues I am from Austria but live in the US. Coffee in the US is so weak compared to in Austria. You couldn’t sell the stuff as coffee in Austria that they sell here in the US. ( It’s like just brown water , very little taste and even less caffeine! )

It's all about what works for you - but in general the only thing that I'd worry about is a lot of almonds or almond milk - the fat is virtually 100% omega 6. Because it's virtually all fat, It throws the omega 3/6 ration much lower than it needs to be for the day. For heart health and the anti-inflammatory-ness needed by dancers, I would recommend swapping the almonds for walnuts and using almond milk rarely or not at all. Also I think the occasional protein powder or energy bar is okay, we are so often on the run, but these are actually highly processed foods. I love eating actual peas, straight up, for the extra protein boost - getting all the fiber and vitamins and natural goodness of whole peas and not just the protein. Love!
@thehappyelephant8868
@thehappyelephant8868 5 жыл бұрын
I appreciate someone who knows about omega 3 and 6 ratio. So many people don't. But I suppose that Katy probably doesn't need to be as careful with the omega 6's in almonds because she doesn't eat all the processed fatty foods like chips as the rest of America does. I also saw in her care packet it looked like there was a fish oil pill.
@esstown
@esstown 5 жыл бұрын
Hopefully, yes. However, as you know, it's all about the ratios and the fish oil, being about 1:1 should help with that - as long as there's not a high amount of omega 6 elsewhere in the diet, since those fish oil pills are so small. I have cleared up all my joint pain by eliminating those bad processed fats you mentioned, and by only using fats and oils with low omega 6 to 3 ratios, and yes, a fish oil supplement. Thanks for answering! Love.

esstown Your comment was so interesting to me because I had allergy testing done... and I am allergic to almonds but can have walnuts. I use coconut milk and have walnuts daily for the good fats. I have a bladder disease called Interstitial Cystitis, which means I cannot have any soy or acidic foods. I have yet to find a protein powder that would work for me. I love lentils, quinoa, and fish for protein! I have tried to reduce gluten, but so many gluten free foods have soy and other ingredients that don't agree with me :(
@esstown
@esstown 5 жыл бұрын
My friend had that interstitial cystitis thing, what worked for her was no spices, (even pepper) no coffee, no tea (all types, even decaff and herbal), no pop, no chocolate. It worked in 2 weeks. Wow, lucky you, you love all the healthy stuff!
@Patti-1962
@Patti-1962 5 жыл бұрын
@@esstown I have had this disease for 20 years and I am basically disabled from it. There are certainly people who don't have it as bad as I do. You wouldn't even believe how restrictive my diet is. No acidic foods (which includes tomatoes), spices except for salt and few others, no dairy, no gluten. It is easier to list what I can eat than what I can't. There are drugs for IC, and some people can take them and eat more normally. Unfortunately, not me. When I have flares I am in bed with ice and on pain meds. They last 4-5 days and I have several a month... so I am sick more than I am well. I have also tried medical treatment imaginable including botox shots with no luck. Thank you for at least knowing what IC is and trying to help me!

I recently visited a nutricionist and I found out that (as probably well as Kathy) I was eating >1500 but I still feel good, have energy to take classes, do cross training, work and study. My nutricionist gave a plan to eat more and I honestly can't! As soon as I eat the breakfast she recommended me, I can't eat my mid day snack because I am still full. Can't have lunch because I am still full from breakfast so I guess we are used to work that way because that's what our bodies asks us for... Idk

One thing that has helped me eat less (I used to have a problem with overeating so I really did need to eat less) was intermittent fasting. If you don't want to fast (it's not for everyone), simply plan the times you're going to eat, plan your meals and then just distract yourself with school, work, hobbies, etc. One thing I learned is that hunger is also very psychological and when I'm bored I turn to eating. Try to make sure you stay busy for a few days and you'll notice the lack of "hunger" (emotional/boredom hunger). Increasing protein and fiber intake helps so much too! Good luck 💪 btw I eat 3 meals a day + a snack, it's all about portion control

Sometimes vitamins can fill specific holes in ones diet. For example, if you eat a completely plant based diet, it can be a challenge to get Vitamin B-12 naturally from your diet. That’s when taking a vitamin is extremely helpful. Vitamin supplements stop becoming helpful only when you take vitamins just to take them and you already achieve the vitamin amounts naturally from your diet. At that point your body just secretes out the excess vitamins and minerals and then you just pee it all out 🤷🏽‍♀️ that’s why vitamin research and an understanding of one’s diet is so important. Vitamins can either really help you stay healthy or it can just a massive waste of money if you’re not careful.

SO she gave me several tests for mythyroid in order to ckeck what is the reason. I is not cancer thanks God. But I am strugling still with loosing weight. I think you are amazing dancer. And I just was worry a bit :) Sorry. Btw I am still caughing but got my medicine for thyroid and iron deficiency.

It's entirely personal. I can eat pretty much everything with no issues. I also have pms and my bloating only ever happens after the second half of my cycle starts. Leafy greens do make me bloated a little bit so I keep them to a minimum but will have them in small quantities. Strawberries are okay with me as well. It depends on the individual as everyone will have different reactions to different foods.

@@patrycjakarowska6557 Also, for us Polish gals, its worth checking our mineral deficiencies. A dietitian has recently asked me to take selenium as the soil we have is nowhere near sufficient in selenium, which I found interesting. Part of our thyroid issue, as she had also said, is the lingering radiation from Chernobyl. Especially if our parents were alive at the time of the disaster. There's scientific evidence of increased incidence of thyroid issues.

I think there are some thşngs which are certain. Those foods are mentioned are bad for you if your thyroid works slow because they influence the absorbtion of iodine to your system. So eating them is not good for you. Cut most of them. Decreased my TSH level about 10 times in two month. With medicine of course. I do not listen to my doc anymore. She did not guide me and somehow putting weight is never treated as a big deal by them. You are just like this deal with it. You cannot forgot this illness even for a second. It is so easy to fall and listen to people do not make it worse than it is. You can do everything with thyroid problems but you have to be strong to say to people to leave your eating habbits alone. I was broken when I heard her thyroid story. If the ballerina of NYC ballet cannot have assist in this case what the rest of us can count for? This thyroid problems are not so hard to manage if you now how. But unfortunately getting knowledge of this know how is a road through pain. My familly get a dose of iodine right after Czarnobyl. That is why problem with thyroids stick only to me. Reason is unknown still. Anyway there are foods which speed of thyroşd: fishes, wallnuts (orzechy wloskie?), meat and so on. If I were living in Maiamy as Kathryn I would go to the beach each day to walk near the sea. It is said that seasides are hudge amout of iodine espesially in winter. She is amazing dancer anyway. Always was. And experimenting is not good chemistry and iology are always best friends :)

No no no! Kathryn I love you and don't mind sponsorships but this is a no no! For vitamines, go to your doctor! Have a blood test done! No need to take them if you don't need them! If you have any issue, talk to your doctor too, they will help you better than a 5' quiz! (Sleep issues, etc.) You might have an underline health issue that needs to be addressed! Too many vitamins will screw up your body in the long term too! And no, you don't know what's in these, as there are no controls on supplements, they could write anything on the bottle and having used something else instead! If you feel like you have an intolerance or allergy, go see your doctor, don't diagnose yourself. It might just be a correlation between the alleviation of your symptoms, another allergy than a gluten allergy, or a placebo effect. You doctor will figure it out. A nutritionist or dietician will also be able to help you with what you need to eat, especially if you are working out all day. So go and see one. Please, don't answer to my comment with "I take vitamins too, it helped me with [insert issue here]" It might just be a placebo effect. No even sorry to say it. Your brain is great at making you believe stuff. The dress colours is a good example of that, or people in sects, that had their brains turned upside down. It might be because you actually had/have a vitamin deficiency, in that case it needs to be monitored by a doctor. And, with science, personal experience doesn't count. Only studies, randomised, in controlled environment, have value.
