How can consuming 215g of sugar be a good idea? A lot of that was fructose...Im no expert, but I'd imagine could cause some issues long term.
@Simnettnutrition
@Simnettnutrition 6 жыл бұрын
Great question. Check out these videos as they explain it much better than me. Sugar from fruit is not the same as free sugars, the same as fats from whole foods aren't the same as oils. Thanks for the comment. Admittedly, it would be ideal if the fruits weren't blended but instead chewed. That would slow the absorption of sugars even more, but as demonstrated in the videos below, there is far more at play than just fibre slowing the absorption. How Much Fruit Is Too Much - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pLuPhc6Wpp6cdI0.html Is Fructose Bad? What About From Fruit? - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qa51fahnrpO9nGg.html

Ok thanks, I'll look into it more. Generally speaking, isn't a low sugar diet optimal? given that the USDA recommend no more than 36g daily.
@Simnettnutrition

Great! Thanks for being receptive. I'm really not trying to make anyone sick or spread misinformation with any hidden agenda. I have studied diet extensively, hence being a holistic nutritionist and just want to help people be healthier. The USDA is referring to refined sugars. One could argue that 0 grams is optimal there. If you have an apple and a banana that's 33 grams of sugar right there. Check out this though. Link at the bottom... of course. ;) "The Global Burden of Disease Study published in 2012, is the most comprehensive and systematic analysis of causes of death undertaken to date, involving nearly 500 researchers from more than 300 institutions in 50 countries, and starting with almost 100,000 data sources. What did the researchers find? Here in the U.S., they determined that our biggest killer was our diet. Number 1 on their list of the most important dietary risks was not eating enough fruit, responsible for an estimated 4.9 million deaths a year around the world." So I don't think they are referring to people not having 2 pieces per day. All the best David. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23245604

Very interesting stuff. I've heard a lot of conflicting thoughts on fructose, which can get confusing. But it does make perfect sense that the benefits of eating plenty of fruit, outweigh any negatives. Thanks for taking the time)

No problem. That is why I'm doing this. I know there is so much conflicting information. I picked up a few magazines today in line at the grocery store and was blown away by the mixed messages. Bottom line, more fruits, veggies, nuts, seeds and legumes are what we need to focus on. All the best David.

Hey Derek! I found your channel like a couple of months ago, while I was searching for vegan friendly videos. I’m very young I’m actually 11 years old but I’m inspired and am vegan. My dad told me to keep liking all your videos as I watch them as I’m loyally doing so. He also told me that your channel was a great find because you are a nice guy and your really humble and can be a good role model. Keep up the vids and may god bless you 😄😄.

Wow. This video is far and away the most informative and artistically produced what-I-eat-in-a-day video that I've seen, out of - I'm guessing - at least 50 of these that I've watched over the past couple of years. Excellent job, and thank you so much. I really appreciated a ton of aspects. You have amazing attention to detail, from your thorough explanations and shots of everything you were preparing and eating, to the artistic flair you added, based on the placement of the camera, the lighting, and the quirky/fun touches you chose to add in. I also appreciated your editing style. It takes a lot of work and time making decisions about things like what to edit out and when to speed up a section - I never felt bored, and never touched the bar to move the video along. I usually watch these types of videos at 1.25 speed or even 1.5 sometimes, but I didn't even think to change the speed with this one, so that's really cool. I loved it when you included the sped-up chopping sounds when making the salad! I laughed out loud at that. :) I liked the vloggling style - it made it more personal but you didn't go so far off track that I became bored. I was actually just more inspired because you showed a lot of the exercises you do, and I need that inspiration, because I've always been mainly focused on diet and have been less excited about working out. But seeing you doing your warm up out in nature was pretty cool - like when you did pull-ups from a tree branch! At the end when you went into detail with your chronometer food-analysis, I was totally impressed. You easily could have "gotten-away-with" not doing that and still gotten a ton of views/likes. But man, talk about helpful to learn about that app and to show that as a vegan, one really does get more than enough of all the amino acids, as well as the other nutrients. And this is just one day - you obviously are conscientious about getting a balanced variety of foods in your diet, and what you don't get, nutrient-wise, one day, you get in the next day or two, so it all balances out. Seems healthier to me not to obsess on getting over 100% in each category in every single day of eating, but rather to look at the numbers on a weekly basis. You rock, man! You're obviously very knowledgeable, conscientious about helping people get the answers they're looking for, you're an amazing ambassador for living an extremely balanced, healthy vegan lifestyle, and you're particularly artistically talented to boot! Thanks again!

I really liked that editing in the beginning. No offense (because it's a compliment) but it reminded me a lot of Casey Neistat's vlogs. Your food preparation is really inspiring to me. You make it seem so simple (because in actuality it is after you've done it a while). I have a lot of anxiety about food and preparing it so it's awesome to see these videos.

I would suggest an Indian inspired sauce/relish, and that way you get your hit of turmeric and black pepper :P Think of a relish without a load of sugar, diluted to taste and for purpose. Good quality tomato passata, onion, garlic, ginger, chilli, tumeric, black pepper, corriander, cumin, mustard seeds, cloves, curry leaves, vinegar, brown sugar, coriander... Toast spices, add onion and garlic; cook for a while; add passata and sugar (use sparingly), cook for a while; add corriander, blend, add water to dilute and season according to taste. Just google a few recipes, and adjust accordingly.

I want to turn vegetarian or maybe even vegan but my days are busy and I don't know how I'd be able to manage my protein requirements! I don't have time to calculate.
@BucketBrain1
@BucketBrain1 6 жыл бұрын
You would be surprised how much protein is actually in plants. The problem starts to arise when we start processing things and adding basically empty calories such as an abundance of oils/fats and sugar (e.g. in pre-prepared meals). Red lentils, for example, are about 24% protein by weight when cooked, have complex carbohydrates, and are low in calories (per unit protein). Black and red rice I fairly certain have around 12-16% compared with 6% for white and 7% for brown (whole grain), and quinoa around 10%. The best way to think about getting your protein may be that just substituting your meat with a plant-based alternative. Try to steer away from too much processed material though, and begin to think of things A good way to approach it is to create a cookbook with like 20 recipes that you can prepare in bulk and freeze, such as a bean/lentil and vegetable stew or curry over the weekend. I would even suggest to buy organic stuff in bulk so that you don't have to worry about peeling. Keep breakfasts easy: e.g. oats, nuts/seeds, banana and frozen berries; vary the type of nuts, seeds and berries. For summer serve cold by soaking for 5 mins or overnight, and cook rolled oats for winter. Eggs per 100g: 155 calories 13g protein ->> 11.9 calories per 1g protein Broccoli per100g: 34 calories 2.8g protein ->> 12.1 calories per 1g protein red lentils per 100g: 116 calories 9g protein ->>12.8 calories per 1g protein puy lentils per 100g: 137calories 11g protein ->>12.45 calories per 1g protein The difference is really minimal - just eat another floret of broccoli or another 5 chickpeas and otherwise have the same weight of food. Thoughts?
@leangroundbeef2322
@leangroundbeef2322 6 жыл бұрын
Those are good ideas, I already eat lots of quinoa, oats, lentils and beans. But the problem is that most plant sources of protein are incomplete by nature, meaning that they lack some essential amino acids. That's why I think it'd be too much work to try and calculate and monitor if I'm getting a complete protein and enough protein overall. Munching on lean turkey is too easy.

Morgan Lee A multivitamin is just expensive pee. Chemicals in food react completely different when we put them in a supplement. Plus, it isn't just vitamins and minerals that are important, without a lot of phytonutrients you are not going to be healthy. People who eat terribly don't avoid the consequences just because they took a multivitamin :)

Your editing is just getting better and better. I like that transition you did with the mason jar, putting it in the view of the camera as an outro of the gym to filling it up with smoothie. Well done, very clever. Keep it up.

Mint and liquorice root tea for the win here. I make a batch that lasts me 3 days, and the liquorice root has a natural mellow sweetness to it. I personally do not see the difference in having that with a piece of fruit compared to a rather unpleasant lemon water.

No I'm not and Jacked Boi you look pretty built yourself. I am sorry people think this and totally understand why as there is a lot of shadiness in the online fitness world... but my physique is totally attainable naturally, I promise. I think the biggest thing is to not be concerned with who is and who isn't... I was wondering for ages who is and who isn't and once I started just focusing on me and becoming the best I can be I never seemed to care any more. Thanks for the compliment though... ;) All the best friend.
@BagoGarde

I will agree with you! This dude has this physique with only 80g of protein (and on top of that only plant protein which is less bio available) .Even as a vegan at 65kg, he should be eating at least 130 g per day. Simnett Nutrition, you may be fooling the neophyte, and the vegans while selling your program and coaching, but anyone with a little bit of knowledge with bodybuilding and nutrition will know you are juicing or you are the top 1% of human genetics.
@Simnettnutrition
@Simnettnutrition 7 жыл бұрын
@Bago Garde I don't sell my coaching or programs anymore. I will have an ebook coming out with some delicious recipes though. I guess I am at the top 1% of genetics, but I really don't think I am. Short with round muscles and being lean does help with my look for sure. I'm not trying to fool anyone, just bring light to what I am doing. I understand the scepticism though, but what I have learned throughout this, is that no matter who has good genetics, or who's using, you can only do the best for yourself. And once you stop worrying about who is using and who isn't, you will reach your potential and surprise even yourself.
