I would definately like to see more videos on how you make your own backpacking meals. I would like to learn how, seems like a cheaper and healthier way to go.

I love your videos! Where do you do most of your shopping, especially for the snacks and the homemade trail mix? Can you find most of it at Trader Joe’s and/or on Amazon, or are you lucky enough to find stuff at your local chain grocery store? I’m 99% sure we live in different states, but I’m fascinated by those snacks, and I have GOT to make that fruity trail mix ASAP. Stay safe out there!

I do most of my grocery shopping at Sprouts and Trader Joes! Both of these stores have a really good selection of nuts and dried fruits which are perfect for making homemade trail mixes. I live in Utah, so I'm not sure if there are Sprouts grocery stores in other states, but it has a great bulk section. Thank you so much for watching! I hope you enjoy the fruity trail mix - it's one of my favorites!

Are you eating directly out of your reusable bags? Are they able to handle “freezer bag” style back country cooking. Thanks

The reusable bags I showed in this video cannot handle boiling water. I pack a lightweight backpacking bowl to eat out of instead!

String cheese? How long should that last?
@amanda.outside
@amanda.outside 4 жыл бұрын
Hey James! I'm not sure how long it would take to go bad. Even though the packaging does say to keep it refrigerated, I take it on trips that are a few days long and I've never had any problems, but I suspect that the longer and hotter the backpacking trip, the faster it will go bad.

Do you buy the cheese refrigerated? Is it okay to have it sit out in the heat for so long? I would love to bring cheese on the trail but worried about getting sick
@amanda.outside
@amanda.outside 4 жыл бұрын
I do buy the refrigerated cheese, and it does clearly say to "keep refrigerated" on the packaging, but I take it on shorter 2 to 4 day trips anyway. Basically, pack cheese at your own risk! I always buy low-moisture, hard cheeses like cheddar cheese and parmesan. I do not take soft cheeses like goat cheese or brie, they would go bad quickly. I've never had any problems with the hard cheeses going bad on my shorter trips, but it's definitely possible. Storing the cheese properly and reducing the surface area that's exposed to air will help keep it fresh longer. Also, if I'm going on a really hot, humid, and/or long trip, I skip the cheese. If you're worried about getting sick, freeze-dried cheese is a great option! It's crunchy, salty, cheesy, full of protein, and it has a much longer shelf-life. I like the brand Moon Cheese. It makes an awesome trail snack!
