I'm autistic, and I wanted to be a vet since I was 12. I did years of preparation, including work experience, and got 3 interviews at vet schools, with offers from 2. I went to uni, and managed to complete 2 years before my physical disabilities, neurodivergences, and chronic illnesses meant I had to leave. I was so lost, I didn't know what to do, I had been focused on reaching my goal for almost half my life at that point, and now it was obvious that it could never happen now. 2 years later, and I'm still trying to work out where I want to be now that one of my only certainties in life has gone

I feel your pain Gabriel. I'm someone with high-functioning Aspergers and I've been dying to get to a space-faring futuristic life for about 15 years now (I'm almost 30 now). Not a single day goes by without feeling depressed and out of place and because of it I won't be alive here much longer. I need my advanced high-tech space-faring space exploration thriving life and the absence of it is killing me each year. I already struggle to go on from day to day life as I don't have much motivation left

As someone who has in the past eight months alone had their father died, being evicted from a home that I've lived in since I was 11 years old, have become homeless and still am, and having a whole bunch of "friends" stab me in the back and turn on me in my time of need just because they didn't want to "deal" with my pain, I can understand going through a whole bunch of pain and wanting to reach out and talk to people.... I am now drawing and doing projects just to help with the pain of everything, and I can tell you this THERE IS LIGHT IN SMALL PLACES!!! Keep looking.... Life hurt.... There is pain.... Fight. You can fight and YOU WILL MAKE IT! DO NOT let the hurt in life win. Look for the joys. It's hard. REALLY hard. But it can be done. Good luck in life. You got close to your dream, and it hurts right now, but there always is light out there.

Honestly so proud of you for being so open about all of this. I got an initial diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder Level 1 yesterday, along with a mild diagnosis of ADHD, and I found it hard to understand yesterday because I now see myself as a completely different person to who I was pre diagnosis, but I know that's who I have always been and am working through the diagnosis with my psychologist to come to a complete conclusion. I'm still working through the emotions and I know I will be for a while, but I will get there in the end. Stay strong x

Thank you Gabe, I know the feeling of finally seeing what you were made for, and then as your just about to grab it, it is pulled away from you. It’s heartbreaking, numbing, and frustrating as heck. But, you are doing the best thing you can possibly do in this situation: you are allowing your feelings to be felt, and then acknowledging that this is not the end. Your dream is not dead but just not yet. I had to turn away from a dream I had just found in one year at college, and then that summer both my parents lost there jobs and needed help. I stuffed down my feelings to be there for my family (I’m the oldest in my family too). It took me almost two year later to allow myself to grieve, but then move forward in knowing the truth you have just spoken on this video. Since that time I have been seeing life through a different lens and I know that I can still eventually do what I’m meant to do. Some days are harder than others but I would rather know what I’m meant for and have to wait a little longer, than live my whole life never knowing who I’m meant to be. Thank you Gabe!
