Happy Father's Day! These are the lessons we learn in life. Mine was alcohol. Knowing what I know today, sober, I would have made different choices when I was younger and certainly garnered a better reputation, taking my career to a higher level.

LOVE the dog!!! Milo is so cute, that is how we all feel today. : o) SO good for everyone to see that a professional, an upstanding man and his wife had a financial issue, how they handled it and how they recovered. THIS is a great series for you and for all of us. Mortgage broker, realtor for 27 years and 07, 08, to 2012 was brutal and no one that I know got out unscathed, very traumatic.

@@oxtalks yes I am. IMO "this time" IF the Fed does not or at some point cannot keep interfering with the market will make the GFC look like Little Bo Peep. In 2008 San Jose in some zip codes had a 59% decline in value, much like your 50% decline. The stress is unbearable, financial death. VERY helpful and humble of you to share your experience. Grateful. : o)

I went through something similar. It is like De-ja-vu today watching what is going on with the difference is we now have inflation with food, cars, and gas etc. I do t remember it being that bad 2008-2016. (Gas did go up ). Scary

People dismiss the importance of Advisors until they are burned by their own mistakes. I remember a couple of few summers ago after my last job layoff, I had to stay afloat, hence researched for licensed fiduciary advisors. I'm wrestling with the decision to move. I owe 115K on a house currently worth between 430-460K. I've put in for full remote/out of state at work and have been working full remote since 2020, just in state. If I get it, was thinking of buying a small house in a rural area for 275-300K range so I don't have a mortgage and can get more chickens and a bigger garden than I currently have and some dairy animals. Issue is my family is here, but it's killer taxes, suburbia rules on animals/gardens, and housing is way overinflated. Thoughts?

Hindsight is 20/20. We have looked back and wish we made other decisions. To have one's credit destroyed for 7 years after a foreclosure is good. There will be no ability to run up debt and 7 years can allow one to get back on the straight and narrow. The body's requirement for carbohydrates is zero. The liver makes glucose. Best to stick to protein (red meat) and animal fat.

I tell people do not accumulate a lot of debt in your working life and if you have a mortgage, pay it by the time you retire. Pay off credit cards .Do not get into convoluted mortgage contracts. Look at that interest rate. get a fixed

both my mom and my dad have reverse mortgages. if it’s not important for the property to be passed down and it’s more important that the cost of living be minimized I see benefit also many don’t understand that a reverse mortgage at death or before can be simply paid off if there’s a lot of equity in the property.
