Whenever a doctor answers my page and sounds like I woke them up, I go out of my way to have a cup of coffee waiting for them. They don't always drink it, but it makes them smile most of the time.

I was wondering if it might be an interesting video to do a “what I wish I could tell patients” or “what I wish patients would do” vid. Like keep your medications in order, eat more vegetables, don’t delay routine visits or procedures, or whatever you see a lot of that could maybe help people stay out of the hospital or at least have a better outcome.

Oh my gosh this would be great!!!! Know what medical conditions you have, know what meds you take and what they're actually for (just those two would be huge). If I could throw in eat more vegetables and go for at least a short walk every day and stop smoking that's starting to seem like too much to ask haha but it would be so nice

I have a super rare disease that only 10 people for every million have. I'm having my 8th brain surgery in 9 years coming up soon. It is understandable to be afraid, but don't be! Yes, some doctors, nurses, etc. just plain suck. They do. Same as any other profession, some people are in their line of work for the wrong reasons and it shows. However, MOST people in healthcare truly do want the best for you! Keep in mind that they are human and will have bad days. In the U.S. at least, nurses are way overworked and some doctors are too. That can create so much stress that they seem less than friendly when in reality, they care and are upset that they can't do their very best for every patient because they simply have too little time & not enough help. All of that said, in order to go through what they go through, including ungrateful & demanding patients, most of them really do care. I've been hospitalized dozens of times and have had hundreds of nurses & doctors in that time, so I've had a pretty good "survey" to base this on! Even with my disease being so rare & thus difficult to treat, most of those caring for me have tried their best to meet my needs. If you need healthcare then get it, don't put it off out of fear!

I should probably let you know that Siobhan appears to have a tendency to put the stethoscope over the shirt. That's definitely something. As far as I'm aware, the best doctors always ensure it touches the skin!

@michellebaker6302 5 жыл бұрын
@@petercdowney 1) What does that have to do with the comment you're replying to? 2) I absolutely disagree. Sometimes they can't get a good listen through clothing but if they can, why risk spreading germs from patient to patient? I HATE when doctors put their stethoscope on my skin. They only do it if they have to because they know this. The doctors I've spoken with try to avoid it for exactly the reason I just said - the last thing you want is to listen to the heart & lungs of a sick patient and then put it on the body of a healthy one.

thats why only the best students are chosen to be doctors, if you start of smart, the job is slightly easier for you. On oncall days on the other hand you need a alot endurance as you most probably wont be able to sleep the whole night and expected to perform at a good level the next day. in some centers you have to work 8am till 5pm the next day.

Eh, as a nurse, if the doctor isn't responding to me fast enough, I just call someone else 😂 At my hospital, we have answering services too. So if I page a doctor overheard with no response, I'll call his/her answering services. They'll either page him/her again or direct me to an NP on call that can usually help until the doctor responds.

We had a patient come into the ER who had fallen into the Ohio river in January. Witnesses said he was underwater for 20 minutes. Patient had no vitals when EMS found them. By time the patient got to ED he had been without a pulse or respirations for about 36 minutes. Because his body temperature was kept so low due to the ice cold water, our amazing physicians managed to resuscitate him... Two days later he started breathing on his own again and woke up. He had almost no lasting damage even though he was clinically dead for more than 30 minutes.

I totally agree with you about the hospital environment. I am a deep sleeper myself but whenever I am on-call I cannot sleep as deeply as I do at home. Somewhere in the back of my mind it is always there that I would miss a call. And sometimes when the night is going heavy I just don't sleep. Besides it's so fun to eat with everyone on-call at 3 am in the morning chatting away about life with your colleagues! Loved your videos. Your positive attitude is so inspiring and just makes my day. Have a Good day!

As a medical lab tech, I never get to see the front end of patient care but watching your videos has really taught me a lot. I've always wondered what the next steps nurses and doctors take after receiving a critical value or how you decide the best course of treatment. It's amazing to see all that goes into it. I love all of your videos ❤️

Yes, it worked. Thank you for your videos. You’re so hard working. You have inspired me. Although I am not a doctor I feel like your advice can be applied to anything. For example, building your own energy.

Hey Siobhan, I'm currently a Pre-Vet student which is soooo similar to Med so when I first found you I really was intrigued to see all your videos and see how the medical field is like. While we have different patients, the issues with students and residents are so similar that your videos help me mentally prepare for what's coming up. I just want to say thank you for making such interesting videos and honestly helping me prepare. All your tips and advice I plan on using within my Veterinary path. :))

You are such an interesting channel to watch. I just need to click on your videos because your content is so interesting. Not to say how nice you are as a person. I find medicine such an interesting topic and always found the idea great to serve a greater purpose like helping people as a doctor. As I study graphic design in germany and sometimes wish to be a student of medicine aswell, it's such a refreshing content you're serving and I enjoy watching your videos a lot. Keep up the good work Siobhan !
