If Leon's base Charizard can smash Alain's mega Charizard X in just 1 minute, ash's Charizard can definitely get stronger. Charizard is far from reaching it's limits.

I like the fact that the Charizardite Y wasn’t hung over heads. If Charizard doesn’t want to Mega Evolve, then don’t Mega Evolve. I also like how it ties into Trevor’s own Charizard having Mega Evolution in the League. Don’t listen to the haters man. You follow your heart. Edit: Also, I’m excited to see how Alain and Ash’s rivalry will go from here. Alain certainly won’t be happy about Ash’s choice, that’s a given.

Mawile is such an interesting choice for a pokemon in Ash’s team, let alone a pokemon who has the ability to mega evolve. I felt like it was a missed opportunity to have Ash in XY to have a pokemon with the ability to mega evolve and to also to have him have a fairy type on his team, and a female pokemon. I can’t wait to see where you go with Ash’s Mawile in this and how Ash obtains the Mawilite

I must say, I like how you've subverted expectations with this story. I feel like almost everyone else who'd write a story of Ash brining Charizard to Kalos would inevitably have Charizard use Mega Evolution to rival Alain's. Here you've had Chariard reject it and instead give Ash a new Pokemon in Mawile to be his mega. I love it.

Well, in talking with fellow What If writer Story Buster, we both came to the conclusion that Charizard was too prideful to accept the power of Mega Evolution. Rather he'd want to be stronger on his own

Considering Charizard's size compared to the other ones in the Charicific valley I'm sure he hasn't reached his peak besides he's beaten an Articuno he just needs to change his move pool. For real who replaces Seismic Toss, and Mega Punch for Slash and Wing Attack.

I think it would be better if charizard took more of a mentor approach to ashes pokemon instead of being their to bail the team out against gym leaders

Vivillon was able to take out Pikachu in canon, so I don't think it was the most disappointing battle or anything. He also used Charizard against Korrina in this part specifically, and that wasn't exactly an easy battle. So it's not like Charizard's just there to bail Ash out and get him an easy win. People are actively trying to improve because Charizard is there

Daaaaaamn Ash gave up the Charizardite Y 😭😭😭 I was hoping that his arc would go to a grudging acceptance of it. I’m feeling this way though, almost like a Leon vibe, and with Mawile having a mega, and Ash Greninja on the horizon, the team would be a little too OP.

Dude. You really don’t understand who Ash is if you wanted him to do the *exact opposite* of what he did when Pikachu and Bulbasaur didn’t want to evolve: which was respecting their choices and not forcing them to do it. It’s pretty much the exact same thing here with Charizard and Mega Evolution. This “grudging acceptance” would make Ash look like such a hypocrite.

Change which moveset? Charizard's? That one will be changing over time. We already saw him learn Sky Drop. Let either Mega Evolve? I've already explained why Charizard doesn't want to, and Ash doesn't have the stone to Mega Evolve Mawile yet

He already wasn't going to be using the Charizardite Y, as he and Charizard decided this in Part 2. This just allows the Mega Stone to still have meaning and use of some kind
