My Jets even had the chance to sign Brees, especially after he failed his physical with the Dolphins. Instead, Eric Mangini decided to make the biggest mistake and keep Chad Pennington. Look how it worked out. Mark Sanchez got us to 2 straight AFC championship games, but we lost. When we had Brett Favre, he got injured and did nothing. We haven’t had a real franchise quarterback since Joe Namath and haven’t had a real quarterback of any kind since Vinny Testaverde. Instead of hiring Eric Mangini, if we had hired either Sean Payton or Bruce Arians, then we would’ve released Pennington just to make room for Brees.

To sum it up perfectly we wouldnt be in the Category 5 shitstorm we're currently navigating ourselves out of now.

@JBSptfn 1. See, I don’t think Allen is the best player for them. For one, he was injuring prone. If they wanted to improve the secondary, they could’ve selected University of South Carolina cornerback Jonathan Joseph (who ended up having a 10 year plus career as a starter) or Alabama safety Roman Harper (another 10 year vet). Perhaps they opt for Louisville defensive end and Miami native Elvis Dumervil? They hit it out of the park with their last undersized pass rusher (Jason Taylor). 2. 10-6 or 11-5 seems fair with Drew Brees at the helm. And perhaps they sneak in as a 5 seed (and eliminating the 10-6 Jets) Who knows? But I think you may be onto something about Nick Saban going for Moss in the 2007 offseason. Can you imagine Drew Brees and Moss making noise together? And does that mean that the Pats do not go undefeated in 07? So many possibilities. 3. I agree that with the Dolphins picking in the lower 20 range in the 07 draft, they should opt for Beason (to replace Zach Thomas) or draft Joe Staley to protect Drew Brees for 10 years (or double dip and nab Marshal Yanda because why not?). I would as far as to suggest that Ted Ginn Jr. falls to them in the second round (around the 48-55ish pick overall) and they nab a speed threat for Brees without overreaching. Or perhaps they opt for Utah safety Eric Weddle to settle their safety position for 7-8 years?
