I think its blue because of the fire theme of Red, since Blue is a hotter level of Fire than Red and Yellow. Red usually being the lowest temperature of fire. the fact that it skipped straight to blue is probably because orange hair would be entirely too similar to normal super saiyan hair, especially if you pay attention to the fact that most of the time SSJ3 has a more golden and orange hue of the hair because the concentration of power im guessing. So basically it was probably to skip over the problem Red God already had. the fact people kept comparing it to a previous form ridiculously. God was called Kioken Orange would be ridiculed even worse cuz its SSJ but a slightly darker tint. So with that because SSJ existed which was the yellow/orange color which is medium tempature fire. they had to skip straight to blue.

It's not even his power, his experience. He just is strong because he is. Then in Buu Saga, when Goku had to train hard, Vegeta had to train as well, even selling his soul to Babidi, Gohan was slacking off and he was even scolded because of that. He was weaker than in Cell Saga. But suddenly he got power, the so called "Mystic" level that was not only as strong as SSJ3, but also didn't have the flaw of the SSJ3 - the stamina draining. And except the Raditz fight, he screwed everything up every single time when he got power. He made Cell explode. He almost destroyed Earth, but destroyed Kaio-sama's planet instead. He killed Kaio-sama, his "pets" and Goku. He ignored Goku's warning to not underestimate Cell. Then in Buu Saga, he literally was so dumb to let himself be absorbed. And he was the one who called Buu "retard"... and who is retard here? Buu planned to absorb him when he fought Gotenks, FAR EARLIER than he even came back to Earth. But Gohan just stayed like an idiot and let Buu get power up by absorbing him. That's my issue with Gohan. I like Son Gohan at Namek. Because he didn't just get power up (I mean he did, but the same as everyone else + zenkai), but he was brave. He showed that he will fight even if he is weaker than his opponent. While he started crying that Cell is a little bit stronger, because he got zenkai from explosion. If not for Goku, he would just give up after he screwed up. Imagine being such a failure to be cocky when You have super power (the second biggest power advantage in DBZ; first is Vegetto vs Buu), then starting to mourn and be passive, because enemy got power up too. He never deserved any power he got. Because he only made things worse when he got the power.
