What If I Did Something Earlier in Life that Proves my Theme is Real?

When we mental review, we start looking at things we have done in the past that we worry may 'prove' or 'give us evidence' that the thoughts we have now may be real! There are many things we may have done in our past that can cause us great distress as we reflect and worry about WHY did those things, or what they mean. This is so very common with OCD and mental reviewing is a sneaky compulsion!!

I did something awful when I was 13 involving an 8 year old. I have never forgiven myself for that until now. It doesn't erase what I did, but it puts in perspective how guilty I felt afterward and how OCD has been a part of my life without me even knowing what it was. I would never dream of doing anything like that to a child, and I can move on from that experience.

Please , please make another video about this issue ! This current theme it’s tearing me apart 😢 Stuff I did on my adolescence and young adulthood that now I ruminate about that all day ! Before I had this current theme I never doubted anything and now I use my past actions as “prove or evidence” and I might be in denial .

I really feel you on this. I'm seriously struggling because of bad and just really weird sexual things I did as a teen and young adult. How are you going with it now?

Thank you for another great video. You’ve helped me a lot! many of these themes are almost impossible to talk to people who don’t have or understand ocd about and even therapists who don’t understand. It’s such a hard thing to live with but it’s nice that we’re not alone🌹

I just came across your videos about three days ago and I just wanted to tell you, thank you I’m not trying to use your videos for reassurance for my OCD but I have to tell you that you inspired me, knowing that I’m not alone, and the way you talk about it it literally makes me feel so much better. I feel heard. I feel understood and it’s been a long time since I felt that way I suffer from POCD harm OCD, religious OCD you name it I’ve had it. i’ve had OCD and a lot of trauma in my life. My OCD didn’t take its toll on me until I gave birth to my third child that’s when it came in full-blown. I thought I was crazy. My intrusive thoughts were so out of control I couldn’t eat or sleep, and the shame and guilt that came along with it nearly destroyed the relationship I have with my children having OCD and having kids it’s such a tricky ugly game that I hate because, I 100% know they’re just thoughts and you cannot control your thoughts but just having the thought alone, Shames me and makes me feel so guilty and disgusted I used to feel like I was unlovable, and I don’t deserve my children or my husband or this beautiful life that we created together it took me a long time and a lot of self searching a lot of books, and Just really understanding OCD for what it is. I am also part of NOCD and I love their community. It’s been so beneficial to myself and I to try to raise awareness of OCD as much as I can. Unfortunately I’m the only one in my family that has OCD so I tend to keep everything to myself I just wanted to tell you thank you I really hope that there is more awareness for OCD especially us moms that have children and we experience these horrible intrusive thoughts, I really enjoy your videos and I’m about to jump on your website and order your book. Thank you again for sharing your story.

Thank you very much, Chrissie! 💜Could you please also make a video about false memories/making up memories and not being sure what is real and what is your imagination? It happens to me all the time that I doubt if I did something horrible or if it's just my imagination. It brings so much suffering

Its amazing that a majority of thr statements in this video can resonate with me yet I still find myself stuck in the cycle... It makes me so sad that I have a loving girlfriend and yet I continue to feel like im lying to her and im not as attracted to her as I should be... Luckily Im capable of just going through thr motions and treating her right for as long as I possibly can.

How are you now? Currently going through something very similar. I have a bf since 5 years and I love him to death but lately their have been so many what ifs in my head things I never questioned before things. It's absolutely debilitating. The fear of somehow losing my boyfriend is so intense.

I have a question - if you are adverse to the idea of ERP therapy, to the point where it makes you extremely physically uncomfortable that you have to let the thoughts "pass" without doing anything about it, is that indicative of having OCD? Just found out you can have OCD over past events, harming yourself and others, relationships, etc... Your videos are really illuminating as well. Thank you for making them and talking about your experience! You are a great help.
