I was thinking about writing that, but you beat me to it. Or, what if Peter somehow found the diary, started writing in it, and Tom Marvolo Riddle used him as the Heir of Slytherin, draining his life and coming back as Voldemort's sixteen-year-old self? Oh, how about this one: What if Diary Riddle returned to life and enrolled at Hogwarts? That way, Voldemort would be able to use him plus the basolisk to kill Harry? Diary Riddle would probably have all the girls, except Hermione, fawning all over him. Okay, I'm extracting myself from this rabbit hole ... right now, but keep up the excellent work!

Great idea! Lily is an exceptional witch. She could have used the apparition spell, and took Harry with her. She'd likely seek help from a few old friends, including... Snape. Maybe this would rebuild their friendship. Snape could be Harry's stepfather?! Who knows.

What if Diary Riddle actually used his charisma to trick/stall Harry and return to life? Potentially even winning his trust. "Help me save her! This is the most I can manifest so I can't carry her myself" He's the largest piece of Voldemort's soul and he really doesn't feel like he gets that deserved screen time.

If Sirius knows that Peter might be in the castle looking to help Voldemort, wouldn’t he warn dumbledore of a certain magical artifact that can give you the exact location of everyone on Hogwarts grounds? It might take a bit of hunting to find but I feel albus could track it to the twins and use it to catch Peter

@@sweetmissirish they wouldn't have to necessarily: Harry and Dudley share what otherwise would have become Harry's room, Remus and Sirius have the one that's in the books themselves Dudley's and then there is still the guest bedroom and they would have the entire space beneath the stairs because they wouldn't to store Harry there.

Dumbledore cast no charms. He erected Blood Wards based on the sacrifice Lily made to ptotect Harry. He specifically calls Blood Wards in the books.

My favorite part of these alternate versions of the story is that Harry is always without fail a pure person at heart, some alternate Harry Potter stories make Harry jaded or even evil but the primary thing about Harry is that he's a good person at his center

@@Akwave_ Fun fact that I just learned yesterday - that's the only time that Draco makes small talk with someone without knowing their "status" from the perspective of a Pure-blood. Harry didn't tell Draco who he was, and Draco never says anything that would make it seem like he knew who Harry was.

I think Remus would be more likely to cook if Sirius never went to Azkaban. Sirius feels guilt at seemingly failing in his role as Harry's Godfather, spending the first 12 years in Azkaban, even trying to make up for the missed gifts via the Firebolt. Sure, Sirius in the main story would be happy to make Harry a breakfast (if Molly wasn't around and say Harry remained expelled in his 5th year) but if he was always raising Harry, I think Remus would be more successful in the kitchen.

I have a question for a potential theory. What if when the Dementors attacked Harry they were able to plant their kiss on him but got interrupted? Harry has his soul and the Voldy fragment in his body, so would the Dementor get both, just Harry's leaving his body under the control of a Voldermort fragment, or would Harry have his body to himself losing the ability to speak Parseltounge or see into Voldermort's mind and what would those options do to the future of the story?

They covered this before, or at least what would happen if the Kiss was successful. They came to the conclusion that the Dementor would destroy both souls at once.

Someone wrote this already and then decided that their every whim was more important than a cohesive, believable, enjoyable plot. The way he wrote Dumbledore and Snape was just foul. I’m pretty sure it’s not up anywhere anymore, thank goodness.

The sacrificial love charm doesn't just work on the Killing Curse. It works on all curses, hence why Voldemort's curses at the end of DH couldn't stick after Harry willingly allowed himself to be killed by Voldy to protect the others. Harry's the only known case of the sacrificial love protecting against the Killing Curse specifically, but that didn't mean it was the only time in history sacrificial love charm came into play. Even Diary Tom Riddle called it old magic he'd forgotten about. Also, what if you have it backwards? What if 17 is the age of adulthood among wizards because that's when those charms break and not vice versa?

I feel like Harry would've also been friends with Ron and the rest of the Weasley family from a young age since Molly's brothers, Fabian and Gideon Prewett, were apart of the 1st Order of the Phoenix. Sirius and Remus would've known the Prewett twins and probably the Weasley's too by association. So Harry, Ron and Neville would have grown up being best friends and then later they meet Hermione and are like the Marauders 2.0.

Here is a what if? There's a rumor that JK said that Lilly was pregnant when she died, and that she already talked James to make Snape the godfather. So, what if the Potters had choose Snape as a secret keeper? Would Dumbledore have told them that he was a spy? Would Voldemort have decided to go for the Longbottoms? Would the secret be leaked again, with Snape dying protecting Lilly?

How would this work? Snape would have only changed sides a few months before that, and there's no indication the Potters knew of his defection. I can't see James ever agreeing to such a scenario when the guy had been an enemy that recently and really didn't change sides for noble reasons.

But I can see James agreeing because he had already matured and would probably feel bad for the bullying, and he had no proof Snape was a death eater, remember that they used masks and no one was sure who was a death eater.

I think the difference with Pettigrew here is that Dumbledore would know Peter is an animagus unlike in the main story and would likely have protections against him. Albus knows of all the passages as well. I don't think it would be easy for Peter to get in.

Dumbledore could have given Sirius a trial, he could have talked to him at any time. He didn't... he choose Harry Safety over Harry piece of life. No he let Sirius take the fall.

What if idea What if Lupin had bitten Hermione during the time turner incident. Set up: When Harry and Hermione lure Remus away from their past selves, Hermione pushes Harry out of the way and is bitten by Remus and Buckbeak only arrives afterwards.

Hmm...I think Hermione being a werewolf doesn't change a whole lot until Harry and Ron wouldn't have access to Wolfsbane during the camping trip in Deathly Hallows. Hermione gets a big meal for once in the entire book.

Sirius would have taken full advantage of his family fortune, as well as Harry's, and disappeared with Harry to parts unknown. No one would have seen him as "Harry Potter" again, which meant that he was Dumbledore's biggest problem. The kid would have probably never crossed the threshold at Hogwarts, even when he was old enough, as Sirius could have chosen any family property, warded it to the rafters, and taught him at home.

If that were true, then Sirius would have still disappeared with Harry upon reentering Harry’s life at the end of Prisoner of Azkaban. Sirius is a fugitive at the end of the book, but (in your scenario) if he was going to to disappear to parts unknown 12 years ago, then his present-day fugitive-status likely wouldn’t have stopped Sirius from taking Harry with him 12 years later. Also also. Actually actually. If this was the case, then Sirius would have simply stopped Hagrid from taking Harry in the first place.

Hold on. Right before Harry passes out in the books, he hears someone calling out his name. That person was obviously Dumbledore, meaning that he would have been there right as he passed out and Voldemort fled. So then in my mind, Dumbledore would have seen a rat running towards the stone, realized it was Peter, and then saved Harry and the stone while also catching Peter. The only thing this would really change would be who helps return Voldemort to his body since Peter would probably receive the dementor's kiss.

So here's my suggestion: "What if J and Ben wrote about what the Marauders got up to during school?" Make us a proof of concept video to show to the execs, and let them see just how hyped we all are for it :D

I don’t know… I would think Sirius would take Harry to the Longbottoms and explain what happened. Alice IS Harry’s Godmother and the Godparents communicating would be paramount. This would lead Frank to change locations, because if the Potters had been compromised, then they were probably next. After that, Harry and Neville would be raised by Frank and Alice as brothers with Sirius and Remus visiting often.

I think I once read a fanfic about this premise. I know for sure I once read a fanfic in which Harry was raised by McGonagal's brother. It's called "Harry McGonagal". Go look it up, it's amazing! It's the youth Harry always deserved to have!

I think Harry might still see his parents in the Mirror but he would also see Sirius and Remus with them. Harry, as an orphan, will naturally still have a desire to know his parents and with all the stories Sirius and Remus told him, it makes sense for Harry to envision them all together.

Assuming that in the original time-line Voldamort wanted to use the Sword of Griffindor as his final horcrux; I see no reason why he wouldn't still try to do that. As to using Harry's death to do it... That depends on if he's able to figure out what happened when he tried to kill Harry before. If he does, he might switch to Nevel for that and send someone else after Harry. I feel that the Dirairy should come in to play here somehow. Ah, use Dirairy to open chamber and send the basilisk after Harry.

I think in this universe, in the mirror he’d see Lily and James… with Sirius and Remus. Pad foot and mount are his parents, (not litterally, of course, but they’re the ones Harry sees as his parental figures) and I don’t think he’d want to be a normal kid living with his mum and dad… he’d want hone together. Lily, James, Remus, Sirius, and him.

Lore theories about why 17 is an adult are my jam. I love them. It pretty much has to be something intrinsic to magic since it is baked into a lot of magic. It could be a chicken and egg thing, but something about a person's magic maturing opens up a whole world of theoretical ideas.

I don't think Pettigrew gets away with stealing the stone. He would have to make his way back through all the tests as a rat while carrying it, past Ron, Hermione and Neville, past the devil's snare and Fluffy, all while dragging a massive red stone? There is no chance that no one wouldn't see him and even if he transforms and attacks Harry's friends, they are by the potion's test Snape set up with three bottles of poison that they could either use to trick him or get him drunk on the two bottles of nettle wine. This and all the other things would certainly slow Pettigrew down until Dumbledore arrives.

I think he would try to make the sorcerers stone the 7th horcrux. It’s a sufficiently important historical item like he tends to use, and it prevents anyone else from ever successfully using the stone against him

Theory: Dumbledore is a Legilimens, so in my opinion I personally think Dumbledore knew the entire time what happened because he looked into harrys memories to see the events play out. He was pretending he didn't, for whatever reason, idk, Dumbledore is weird, but that was probably how he knew that he needed to put Harry in the Dursleys care.

I love the idea of Neville and Harry being friends. Maybe, if Harry's going to be there, Augusta doesn't have to send Trevor along to keep an eye on Neville ...but I don't see Serious and Neville's gran mixing. (And, yes, I think Trevor was an Animagus:. I can totally see Neville's gran bullying another family member into going along to keep an eye on him-- and report back to her-- while he's at school.)

Voldemort never intended to make a 7th Horcrux. He was aiming for his soul to be split in 7 parts, in the form of 6 horcruxes and the last bit was supposed to be in his own body. I feel like another reason for Voldemort's plan to fail was that he had his soul reside in 8 objects (his dairy, gaunt ring, Slytherin's locket, Hegla Hufflepuff's cup, Ravenclaw's diadem, nagini, Harry and his own body). If the accidental Harry Horcrux had not been made, his soul would have split into the 7 parts and thus retained that power of the magical number 7.

Yes, but there was never more than 6 Horcruxes at any one time. The diary was already destroyed by the time Nagini was made into one. I suppose that doesn't really change the number of times he's split his soul. Still 8, instead of 7, which makes Voldemort-prime a little weaker

Really, splitting his soul into seven bits was already a ridiculous risk to take, but he might have figured his soul being in 7 parts was the best balance between 'number of failsafes' (six of them) and 'soul/power stability'. He might have expected that 7 soul fragments was an 'island of stability' or something. Incidentally, without Harry and Nagini (which he didn't turn into one until some time during or before Goblet of Fire, she wasn't a Horcrux before that point, so far as I'm aware) he only had 5 horcruxes (Locket, Ring, Diadem, Cup, Diary).

It's explained by Dumbledore in OOTP that he gave Harry to the Dursleys to protect Harry. He explained that he put his faith in Lily's blood. And the only one was Petunia. I'm sure Sirius wasn't too happy about this, so he went hunting for Peter. And in the POA book, Sirius broke out of Azkaban because he saw Peter in Ron's hands in the Daily prophet for winning a trip to Egypt. Sirius recognized him when he saw him. How? They've known each other since they were kids in school, I'm sure they'd recognize each others animagus forms.

How close does one have to be to be a "blood relative" in terms of spells? I know Petunia is pretty much Lily's only living adult relative, but if Dumbledore had found a fifth cousin who wasn't abusive/neglectful, would that person work for the purposes of the spell?

I suspect that the closer the relative the stronger the protection is - so parent/child would be best (not an option in Harry's case for obvious reasons) but aunt is pretty good. Also, I know James is very short on relatives but even if he had a brother or sister, Dumbledore would still choose Petunia because Lily sacrificed herself - Voldemort specifically gives her the chance to step aside, so it has to be a relative of Lily's.

Dumbledore, put Harry there knowing full well he wasn't going to be treated well. He was put there so he would be protected by his aunt Petunia' s blood bond to his mother. Given this choice, what would anyone choose? Personally, I don't think Harry should have been sent to the Dursleys.

Important details, Harry will DEFINITELY be better at magic that he was in the original story. Lupin and Sirius came up with some very good spells, were exceptionally talented in most aspects of magic, and didn't have much respect for the rules. Meaning they ABSOLUTELY taught Harry at home how to do magic before he ever went to Hogwarts and during his vacations. Secondly, I foresee Lupin and Sirius telling Dumbledore about the Muraduers map since they know where it is, and they know Voldemort is after Harry, it makes sense Lupin at the very least would tell Dumbledore to make sure Harry is safe.
