mac will definitely be the protagonist of RDR3, he’s called viscous but is also said to have cared and been loyal to the gang. He gave Arthur his horse during the blackwater massacre so he can survive. And there’s enough ambiguity about his character that they can definitely build a whole story around him. Love the video by the way can’t believe i’m the first viewer

@@nniico_ through the conversations of the gang about mac is morality isn’t made clear, he’s referred to as a sort of viscous enforcer but with a heart (remind you of arthur?). that also sounds like the honor system to me, it isn’t made clear how he was as a person so that you as the player can choose how you want to play as him. for example uncle talks about how he once saw mac beat up 15 sailors and arthur talks about how mac gave him his horse in black water sacrificing himself for arthur just as arthur did for john. it can be implied that he was for arthur what arthur was for john in a way with how they helped them build their character. keep in mind we never saw what mac looks like in the game, so that they can play around with his character model (unlike what they did with davey) and we don’t know how long it took milton to catch up with him, while we know how mac’s life ends we don’t know what happens between blackwater and his death so writing it off as it’s “too predictable” would be wrong. i hope i explained myself well

Javier said that Mac got shot so assuming Davey saw his brother get shot he went insane and just started shooting and not taking cover whitch resulted in his chest wound

I read somewhere that while escaping Blackwater Arthur and Mac caught up with each other and after Arthur's horse Boadicea was shot and killed Mac gave Arthur his jacket ( the brown gunslinger jacket ) to trick the Pinkertons and let him escape on foot.

@@Garland846 we don't know how Mac died. The game wouldn't have to involve them dying in the end either. I wrote a RDR 3 story idea involving Mac and Davey as protagonists on GTA Forums a few years back, if you want to read it.

I will keep saying this as we need a prologue to rdr2 which takes place 2 months before the failed Blackwater Heist from the perspective of Mac; it would convey he and Davey's role/relationship to the gang, the character Jenny and the events leading to the failed heist including details of Josea & Arthur's incomplete job. It ends with him helping out Arthur trying to find his Brother and dying at the hands of Milton and Pinkertons. Boom.

I’ve actually written a couple of ideas for the Callander Brothers. The main ones being: -prequel of the 3 Callander brothers before they joined the gang - Mac’s story set in 1901 two years after surviving the Blackwater massacre setting up a new life out west.

I think it would be nice if we were completely bamboozled this entire time, and Mac was actually thrown into a mine or some other prison, only to leave as an old man and ride off to find his brother's grave and pass away next to it by sharing one last drink with Davey. His tragedy being missing everything would be more brutal than just dying with a purpose like Arthur and John. To live a meaningless life, knowing you could do nothing to save your family, your friends. Heck if he had an honor system too, perhaps at the end, Mac would chooses whether or not to take his life depending on your playstyle.

A mac game would be dope. Have some events before blackwater so we get to see what happens finally. Have him get captured but escape, would open alot of doubt about everything milton taunts Arthur with throughout the game. Maybe have him trying to catch up to the gang after he recovers, or just go his own way and hear stories he thinks are the gang as he goes as little tie ins and to show you when it its happening adjacent to 2. Good way to keep it original while staying familiar. And we get to see all our favorites in better times for a while, you know, and not dead.

The two of them interest me because other gang members seem to die due to their lack in skill or putting themselves on the front lines of the fight. Like Lenny pushes forward with Arthur as he wants to prove himself. Hosea is tired, older and slower. Sean while capable in a fight is a poor gunman

Interesting enough one of the deleted camp dialogues between Arthur and Hosea suggests that Mac gave his jacket and horse to save Arthur's life.. Myb its Rockstar's hint to us..

Or that never happened and that’s why it was deleted. Arthur literally asks Sean if he saw Mac meaning Arthur wasn’t even the last person with Mac, and his jacket would have more significance if it was Mac’s but it’s just Arthur’s own jacket. Plus where is his horse if Arthur used it to escape? See that’s why it’s deleted

I think rdr3 should be played from the perspective of Dutch building the gang, up to the point of the blackwater robbery. Maybe you play one of the members who die in blackwater so it makes sense storywise

They will eventually have to explain the Black Massacre. They showed how John was betrayed by Dutch and how he was left behind to die in RDR2. And the Blackwater Massacre has now been mentioned twice in both RDR1 & RDR2. But we haven’t seen it or played it yet, RDR2 was the closest we got to it, and it had already occurred. As much as those “fans” are calling up for a story change and new characters. They have to show what happened in Blackwater, and RDR3 will probably show what happened, in one of the most epic missions in RDR history, finally closing the chapter on the RDR series.

Black water massacre probably won’t become a mission ever, as rockstar purposely started the game directly after it even though it’s talked about in rdr1 and rdr1 all the time, it works better to be left up to the imagination. Also, during the bank robbery in Saint Denis Bill literally says “this is worse than black water”, so if you’re looking for a more intense shootout you won’t get one

We weren’t shown the Blackwater heist on purpose, and we probably never will. It was deliberately hidden for a reason. It’s supposed to keep the player in the dark about Dutch’s true nature. We only hear some small details about the massacre but we never see it firsthand. So we might ignore some warning signs about Dutch and be tricked by his charisma and leadership, only to then realise his intentions in the later chapters. If the player were to see Dutch kill that girl, it would instantly villainise him and ruin the effect. It’s basically a plot element. It’s supposed to be like a horrible memory that looms over the gang even after its downfall, and a symbolism that one cannot escape their past even when they try to ignore or hide it. Some things are mentioned, but don’t need to be explicitly shown to us. It adds to the world and makes it seem much larger and real. If every event or character in the story was explained to us, it wouldn’t be a story anymore, it would just be a retelling of events.

It would've been cool if in rdr2 one of them died and the other survived and one who lived witnessed his brother's death, and that completely changed his personality and what ever one lived stayed with arthur and John in the end of beaver hollow and helped arthur beat micah and then arthur goes on to die from his tuberculosis

Mac in the game would have been interesting. I think Mac probably would have gotten killed during the Saint Denis bank robberry, with him likely going nuts after Hosea is killed.

I have the exact same theory but I think it was Mac that got shot by Micah as Davey was clinging onto life in the opening and he would have said something if they made it that far up.

i don’t think he would, charles and Sadie were true friends to john and arthur, i haven’t finished playing the first game yet so my opinion could change but from what i’ve seen i don’t think so. i believe john values friendship highly even if they haven’t seen each-other in years. sorry if this was worded weirdly i’m so tired 😭

No, Ross sent John because of bill and Dutch and Javier Sounds like they were having a hard time taking them down and needed help from John And the only way they could get John was by taking his family because otherwise he would have never went Charles went to Canada and Sadie disappeared somewhere and wasn’t causing trouble Same thing with the gangs cook, he just went to work in town, I’m sure Ross new who he was

Completely off topic, but the intro reminded me; Is there enough content to cover the story of Otis Miller for a video? I've recently had the idea to make RDR3 themed around Otis Miller. We don't know much about him, besides what's in his song, and the stories in the dime novels of course. But I think it'd be awesome to live the life of the most famous gunslinger to ever live. Plus, that era is rich with characters to use. Otis has a brother named Frank. And of course there's Charlie Tatum, the gang member who shot Otis. And apparently Charlie also has a brother who, as far as I know, is unnamed. But there's also the Jack Hall Gang, Boy Calloway, Frank Heck, Landon Ricketts, Emmett Granger, Billy Midnight, Black Belle, Slim Grant, etc. Otis Miller was a gunslinger so famous that he felt constantly threatened and it drove him into a life of solitude, which ended in him getting shot in the back by Charlie Tatum. RDR2 was about the days of gunslingers dying. So RDR3 could show the "glory days" and how they practically drove Otis insane. All this to say that I'm writing the story of Otis Miller. Don't know why I'm announcing it. But I have doubts that Rockstar'll do it, so I figured I might as well do it myself. Although, I'm not a very good writer, so I don't expect it to be very good.

What we know about the Callanders is that everybody except for Charles and Lenny liked them. With the way they acted when Hosea's saddle got stolen, I figured they respected Hosea and probably would not have tolerated any slight towards him. Since we know so little about them, I don't know how they would have fared if they survived Blackwater. But I would have loved to see what dynamic they had with the gang before Blackwater. Speaking of, I have been hoping for a Prologue: Blackwater DLC for a long time. With Mac as the protagonist and the map is restricted only to West Elizabeth and maybe New Austin. The final mission would be the Blackwater ferry heist. Doesn't look like that's going to happen. I have seen plenty of people wanting the Blackwater ferry to be the final mission in RDR3 but how is post-game free roam going to be handled?

Well it’s not like they hate them either, if u actually listen to what they have to say they just think Mac and Davey were too careless and reckless and that they were a liability to the gang. Lenny and Charles are literally the opposite to the gang so it makes sense polarizing people don’t mix well, but it’s not like Mac and Davey were racist or harassed them or it would’ve been mentioned, plus I don’t think Hosea would’ve liked them either if they were hateful people, but they were def a wild pair

I could imagine Davey recovering from his wounds and go out to find Pinkertons and try and kill him be sick if there was a mission with Arthur and Davey and shoot up pinkertons or get trapped Arthur and Davey have to shoot the way outta there really wish we got more info on them dlc or a game would explain a lot

I’d like if RDR3 followed these 2, it would be a great showcase of the gang at their peak. You could start the game with Charles and Mica joining the gang and end with Blackwater. You could switch between calendar bros during the story like gta5; at the end of the game switching to Aurthur trying to meet back up with the gang

everyone thinks we’ll play as mac or davey or both. but it wont happen. it cant happen. they both have confirmed deaths that dont have anything to do with redemption. also, how would we free roam at the end of the game? they need to focus on a new story with new characters in a different time with different landmarks. not the 1890s-1910s. 1860s-1880s was the prime of the wild west so it should focus on then with a fresh, new protagonist

playing as either of them would just be... weird. theyre throwaway characters meant to show that the heist had casualties, thats it. ofc a lot of people in the gang werent mentioned in rdr1 yet they incorporated them in the correct way and had room to do so. itd be very strange to just randomly play as two people which we are introduced to as they immediately die and dont provide anything more to the plot. rdr3 only has two options. the gangs beginnings as dutch, hosea, and arthur or that plus crucial/unseen moments in the gangs history which would more formulated as a level based game ending at the blackwater heist. the rdr series is too entrenched in the van der linde gang to be about anything else and choosing any other random protagonists in the gang wouldnt make sense as they wouldnt be important enough to drive the story

I have a crazy theory.... The callendar bros were the predecessor to cleet and joe From the end of the game . Both joe and cleet are scummy criminals who join micha at the end . Both mac & davey are criminal brothers who joined the van der lin gang before 1899. While jenny kirk was a younger ,brunette and Scottish version of sadie adler ..... We see that sadie is an emotional train wreck and specialising in killing O'Driscolls. That said that jenny had a spark about her . We find sadie hiding in a basement From O'Driscolls doing a home invasion while they say the vsn der lin gang found jenny abandoned on the side of the road. It it assumed that all 3 characters the callendar bros and jenny kirk were scottish ..... along with john marston

Yeah, I don't think they could be protagonists, people forget: redemption is the name. The brothers were explained to be assholes, and never redeemed themselves, they literally committed a massacre. Now for you new fans, never let old fans make new stories, like the commenters and the uploader is a perfect example of that. No Callander brothers, no younger.... or any younger character backstory. If you want that type of game, go to Revolver, it'll do you good.

davey was known as more of an asshole, mac was known as ruthless but with a heart (kind of like arthur) mac’s last act was giving after his horse to escape blackwater. if they built a whole game around mac there could’ve definitely been a redemption for him, you don’t know how he might’ve changed

@@sulaimanlfc649 Committing a massacre and caring about a horse isn't exactly redeemable. The reason why Arthur worked because it took its time, and you watched his Redemption and regret show, as his TB got worse. Mac never suffered through any of that, he just died of bullet wounds and winter

@@earnem4175 but maybe mac had a change of heart like arthur’s, we don’t know a lot about the blackwater massacre, we don’t know his involvement or what he actually did that would make him irredeemable. his last act is reminiscent of arthur’s, he sacrificed himself to save the people he cared for. i guess arthur is irredeemable himself because the last mission you do before the one where he dies is one where you rob a train and kill a bunch of security and law who were just doing their job. maybe mac didn’t fully redeem himself, but it’s only due to his sacrifice that characters like arthur john sadie and charles were able to. which is the ultimate act of redemption

I think there will be more than one main character in RDR3. They will use the same method that was used in GTA IV to switch between them. And I think it is time to move beyond the current gang. I would actually like to see a REAL western game. Not one at the very end of the western era. I would not be surprised to see a Native American in the next game as a main character.
