The One Ring is a vital instrument of Sauron's survival and downfall in the Lord of the Rings, but what would happen if it wasn't in Middle-Earth during the War of the Ring? Thank you all so much for watching, this video was so much fun to make! Let me know your thoughts about this theory in the comments below! Would it happen like this or would the tale go differently? Happy New Years everyone, I will see you all soon! As always, a great thanks to the online artists whose visual works made this video possible! If you are one of the artists, please let me know and I will post your name and a link to your work in this description!

I think it's far more likely Glorfindel would have been corrupted by the ring before ever reaching Valinor. Being such a powerful elf, it would have a very strong influence on him.

Interesting take, however, I believe the Valar in their wisdom would not reject something like that but rather find a way to destroy it themselves or bind Sauron's will to it in order to summon him back. Also, if Ents were up against the black gates they would have brought entire forests with them of huorns and though they should be lit on fire this would undoubtedly overwhelm Sauron's forces. The end would have been very different I think, especially with Glorfindel championing the free peoples' cause before the Valar.

The One Ring is specifically an artifact of Middle-Earth and is of its nature. Although the Valar accepted the Silmaril of Eärendil, I believe that is because of its creation in Valinor. The One Ring in contrary is purely of Middle-Earth and does not belong to Valinor like Sauron does. Out of that I would expect the Valar to reject the One Ring, however accept Sauron like they did here Saruman as they are both Maiar.
@ErelasInglor

@@fisch37 I think there may be some confusion here as Middle-earth is still overseen by Manwë and his governance. It is a part of Arda and as such under his protection. Tolkien stated that he was keen to be involved in combating Sauron’s influence even from afar, thus why the Great Eagles and Wizards were sent by Manwë. It is not so much a matter of whether it belonged in Valinor but more of holding one of their own accountable with part of his (Sauron’s) will imbued within the ring itself. Just some deductions.

that's not true. the very reason the council decided to destroy the ring is because they could not beat Sauron by conventional means. This video was already very optimistic in the sense that all the free people would unite much easier without the ring (which is a stretch), but they still lost decisively without even meeting Sauron.

@Jason Rasmussen While I don't remember all the specific names, or when in the story it happened, I do remember somewhere in the LOTR story, that Gandolf specifically said that not even the fire from the most powerful dragon that ever lived could destroy the one ring, that only the fires (aka magma) from the volcano in which it was forged could destroy it. So not even tossing it into any active volcano, lava flow or magma chamber would do, only that one specific spot would work, is what I got from that line.

James Derington Sauron would have used him in the war of the ring 78 years later. He would have devastated the free peoples of middle earth on Sauron's orders. Sauron's forces would most likely have won the war. He would have taken possession of the ring and plunged middle earth into a second age of darkness. That's why Gandalf knew Smaug had to be destroyed.

i've said before that the Valar are assholes for leaving the mortal races to clean up THEIR mess. Morgoth was one of them and they still let him off the hook once and the people of middle-earth practically had to beg the Valar to act and get rid of him permanently. When Morgoth was defeated Sauron tried to convince them he'd changed and for whatever reason, despite Sauron being Morgoths No. 2 guy, they just left him in Middle-earth. Then he shows up to numenor, corrupts the island and sends them towards Valinor but even then all the Valar and Maiar do is crush the Numenorean fleet and sink Numenor, again, Sauron gets off virtually scott free. WTF?! After Sauron was defeated i'm surprised no one in Middle-earth didn't gear up to go and demand the Valar and Maiar be held accountable for their gross negligence throughout the ages.

The part that I didn't understand is when the Valar didn't help Feanor in his assault on Morgoth..I mean, Morgoth killed his father, whom Feanor loved, and stole his SIlmarills...and then the Valars didn't give a damn.

That's make so much sense dude. Thank you for these comment. Valar supose to clear the mess as Morgoth's next in line Sauron continous his master ideas. He was a semigod and to big of a chalenge for free races. Valar was like - they create lands, life, get involved in War of Wrath (when Morgoth already kicked everybody asses in years and years of conflicts), sink Numenor and then... left Middle Earth for its own destiny with Sauron who can't be matched by anybody.

Just one thing with nummenor, it was eru who destroyed the island and split the undying lands from the circles of the earth. Still the valar shouldve acted earlier. I believe that the Valar seem much like the gods old. Those of our pagan for-bearers. They are not angelic spirits that can do no wrong. They are flawed and care less and less about our mortal struggles. I think they start off enamoured by the children of Illuvatar, but grow jaded when many of the elves reject their call and even more jaded when the Noldor rebel against their will. They try to do the will of Eru as they understand it.

you know what I never thought about this as a scenario. but your ending for it fits the theme of good all ways win against evil. as evil is vain and shallow and is blown away by a strong wind. this theme is found everywhere in lord of the rings.
@hebekiah3623
@hebekiah3623 6 жыл бұрын
Um, sort of. But Gandalf encourages them to act and not wait to be bailed out by super-daddy Valor. I think passing the buck on action also leads people to evil; like many religious people who pollute and don't treat people well because "it doesn't matter, I can't fix everything and there will come Armageddon and God will fix everything." Even in non-profit boards I've been a part of I've seen that attitude that "everything will turn out alright; it always has" and result in inaction, more belief that someone (via God) will fix it. Often people do work out a solution but they are people, humans, of action. Sometimes not and I've seen them die or morph into something like being a corporate PR wing, whoring themselves for funding; "saved" by their super-daddy overlords. In Yoysten's video the Valor came out because they had some responsibility, but what if it had been something else or a mortal evil tyrant or global warming they had brought on themselves? Also, I believe Gandalf meant for people to *act* not just for the good of Middle Earth but themselves and their people. If you stop Sauron but nobody learns a damn thing except someone else might bail you out then what's the point?

your right about teaching people to take action themselves. i was just simplifying the whole thing about evil never wins in lord of the rings. there is lesson in the books about taking action yourselves and not just relying on some else to do it for you. just another great message which could be found in this great series of books no wonder why there well renown classics.

I feel the dwarves could engineer super siege weapons that could shoot further than the eye could see, but the elves can see such a ridiculous distance that they could use these to pick off saurons army a ridiculous distance away. If they constructed these weapons of mithril then they would be able to withstand the strain of launching great objects such great distances. I really think if the dwarves and the elves allied they would be too powerful for sauron to challenge.

They could have fortified gondor and built them there. They could have had layers of lesser and lesser siege weapons, archers after that, and dug trenches. I am no master tacticion, but I do not think they would so foolishly take their whole army to the black gate like that. Any of the eagles could serve as a useful scout and see that they were clearly outnumbered and help them come up with a better plan. If all the free peoples of middle earth were in this together I kind of doubt Elrond, for example, would be so naive as to go along with this. They had plenty enough people who had been around a very long time and seen more than their fair share of wars; which makes me wonder why the elves didn't have much better technology? But I think that tolkien was speaking against technology in a sense, and that massive siege engines would have seemed too barbaric and un...chivalrous, (best way I can put that). Anyway. They could have had the ents help operate these massive engines as well, although that may have posed an issue s the engines could not be constructed without the burning of trees. Another thought. After Saruman was defeated Gandalf offered him a chance to repent and help them against Sauron. Since the ring was sent into the west I feel Saruman would have taken up this offer and helped them fight Sauron. Probably with the plans of betraying them later if the ring washed ashore, but since he had such extensive knowledge of Saurons devices they could have done much better

1, you made the assumption that the ring made it west. Sauron's full focus was on retrieving the ring and he assumed that the ring would go west. His spies were guarding every road and path west from Rivendell while he had access to forces in Redhorn pass, Ettenmoors and, to lesser extents; Moria and the Withered Heath. Slipping a small band west would not escape detection and trying to reach the coast by force would end in a massacre. 2, Even if the ring made it to Mithlond, why would Sauron attack Minas Tirith? Sauron only attacked Minas Tirith because Aragorn showed him that he had the ring and was going to unite mankind with it's power and Sauron needed a pre-emptive strike to destroy the biggest city of men. Otherwise he would occupy Rhun and eastern Rohavion and expand his numbers, waiting until his forces were great enough to ensure a victory against Minas Tirith before sending them out 3, I agree about the scouring of the shire not happening, but Redhorn and Moria still has armies to threaten Rivendell, preventing Elrond from lending any troops to defend Gondor or marching on Mordor. Ettenmoors and Angmar are still in a position to threaten Mithlond and the Blue Mountains, meaning that they can't spare any forces, Dol Guldur would still threaten Lothlorien and the Easterlings are still in position to keep Dale and Erebor at bay. If you can beat Saruman though, then yes, the Rohirrim could ride to defend Minas Tirith. And the Umbar wouldn't be threatening the coast at first, they would be hunting down the ring-bearing ship, so Gondor could be stripped to defend Minas Tirith, until the ring was beyond Umbar's reach and they returned, forcing Gondor to restrengthen Gondor's armies on the coast. When Sauron attacked in the books, it was in haste and before he was ready. Give him the time to prepare and Minas Tirith doesn't stand a chance.

Hello again :) I really appreciate your videos. There is clearly a lot of work and love going into them. Could you please do a video on the potential of Aragorn and Arven's son. I'd be interested to hear your ideas as he would be mostly elf, ruling the men and uniting many important bloodlines.

"Renewing the world through the second music of the Ainur" sounds like an euphemism for an apocalyptic event 😅 Did you imagine that the Valar would fight Sauron on the battlefield, would there even be anything wort fighting for left in Middle-Earth by this point? A really enjoyable and thought-provoking video of yours, great stuff 🥰

Love the video, great way to start the new year. Your theory videos are always a treat. While I do agree the destruction of the One Ring was the best scenario for saving Middle Earth, apart of me does wonder that if Sauron never returned would another evil take his place. No counting Melkor's return in the final battle referred to as "Dagor Dagorath". I doubt it but I could be wrong. Anyway if I could suggest a theory, I always wanted to see a Hobbit theory for the sake of variety. "What if Smaug killed Bilbo at Erebor and claimed The One Ring?" Granted it would probably be too difficult for a Dragon to hold said ring on those claws of his. Anyway keep up the great videos. :)

This video was perfect. Please make more like it. I would really suggest doing a possible outline for what a video about the Final Battle would be like. Having Morgoth be released behind the door of night. I wish Christopher would have used his father's notes and made this story.

Happy 2018 to you too :) Sorry I'm late but I was away. I've read and watched a lot of "what ifs" and I think the way it went in the story was the best way. Well, I can't help to think that if they didn't lose Gandalf in the mines of Moria, maybe it wouldn't such a bumpy road but considering everything it didn't turn out bad after all :)

wow this is actually a really good alternate story, though i feel that it kinda shares a similar story to that of the First Age, of how all the free peoples of the Middle Earth were defeated by the great evil and only then when all hope is nearly lost in the end, the Valar would then come and aid them and overthrow the great evil once and for all, like they did to Morgoth in the First Age the only difference will be, Valar and its hosts would just probably swiftly defeat Sauron with relative ease than it was with Morgoth, for even though Sauron is like the most powerful of all Maia, he is still just and will be a Maia after all, his powers would never be like that of his master Morgoth, he knows too well that he is no match against the Valar themselves hence it is also the reason why he is hiding from them in the 1st place, also i doubt that the One Ring would even save him should he even clash against the likes of Tulkas, Ulmo and Eonwe, heck Tulkas would probably turn him into a helpless punching bag and ragdolling the shit out of Sauron with his Valar-wrestlemania moves (LMAO), crush the One Ring with his bare hands or make Sauron choke the One Ring in his throat, similar to what he did with Morgoth where after the War of Wrath, Tulkas beats his iron crown and made into a collar lol

I love the tone and content of this video, I just have one question. Why would the Free Peoples attack Mordor? In the books, they only did it to draw out Sauron's armies to give Frodo a fighting chance, they knew they couldn't win, they just needed to buy him time. So in this case, why wouldn't they just consolidate all their strength in Minas Tirith and Osgiliath, giving themselves a major advantage by using defensive choke points and walls?

Love the vid, but I was just wondering if you would know of any reasons why the vallar would reject the one ring? Or would they not know of what happened to the numenorians?
@MenoftheWest
@MenoftheWest 6 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I believe they would reject it as it was made from Middle-Earth, and it wasn't an issue that they wanted to involve themselves in. As for the Númenóreans, they would never fear an invasion like the one the men had threatened again because Ilúvatar made the world round, and Valinor was made unreachable by those who were not invited to prevent another disaster like the Downfall of Númenór from happening ever again with the other Free-Peoples.

I dont always agree with some details you bring up or some turn of events, but it is *impossible* not to be carried away with your story-telling and the enthusiasm of your voice! I love these videos of yours and just sitting down with some tea for a break from reality, just sitting and letting your imagination flow. Thank you. :) One thing i remember from the books is how sauron *rushed* his attack on minas tirith, when aragorn revealed himself and the sword of kings through the palantir. The fact that there was an heir that could strengthen the will of the people of gondor and rid it of the corrupted influence of danathor (whom had been corrupted through his own palantir and was thus misleading the entire kingdom towards ruin) made him panic slightly. So he moved up his schedule and attacked much earlier than he had initially planned, the results of which was that the attack was much weaker and less impactful than it would've otherwise been, he wasnt 100% ready to commit to it but he *still* nearly won! The biggest question is how much the elves and dwarves would *actually* be able to directly involve themselves, militarily i mean. We only know of *4* remaining elven kingdoms, which were little more than city-states at this point. When sauron waged war against them during the war of the rings in the north (before numenor had settled the kingdoms of gondor and arnor) the elves were *unable* to resist sauron and they suffered heavy causalties. Their numbers had been depleted even more since then because of their migration to the west. I mean the elves, particularly the noldor/high elves, were *fantastic* smiths and craftsmen and great warriors, but there's only so much a couple thousand of them could accomplish vs the inumerable hordes and allies of sauron. The elves of mirkwood had lost a substantial amount of their forces a couple decades earlier at the lonely mountain. Rivendel relied purely on *secrecy*, not strength of arms, for their protection. The grey havens never quite struck me as the most militarized place in the world either, i remember something about them going to rivendel to get their armour or something in a previous war. So that leaves Lothlorien? :/ After the battle of minas tirith in the original story, the armies of men were almost entirely spent. We know rohan had left behind a couple thousand riders to guard their land while the rest went to gondor but.. feels like they were pretty screwed. Sauron would've most likely attacked again shortly after the first and it would've been an almost guaranteed win the second time. Now gondor, let alone all of middle-earth, wouldn't have been destroyed quite so quickly, but Minas tirith was the last great obstacle for sauron's domination and the free people would never have been able to muster the forces necessary to reclaim it. Once minas tirith was taken it was just a slow but sure cleaning up for sauron. All in all i think you did a very good job on this one! Sometimes i feel more involved in middle earth scenarios and stories than the real one! xD
