Based on a recent interview, it seems like Phil Spencer has been thinking a lot about a possible Xbox handheld. We discuss what we'd want from it - noting that we would VERY MUCH want it - and wonder if it could end up being a Switch-like replacement for the Series S in the next console generation. Plus: Elder Scrolls 6 is already playable at Bethesda, but we're hoping the team is doing some serious updating to the Creation Engine. And finally, we talk about Toys for Bob's new game deal with Microsoft after they recently split off from Activision, including what we think the game is. Enjoy the show!

The handheld should include a port to input your Seagate SSD drive. Play your Installed games by unplugging and putting it into your handheld.

@@Mmachine88But why would its best advantage have to be removed? It is still king. Games work out of the box without tweaking settings al day. The sales and market share already prove this point. The switch was in high demand when it first released, before Nintendo had its strong 1st party library.

They probably just need to optimise/ refactor the Creation engine. It's more than doable, then those loading screens go away, modern C++ has some power

Some devs complained (allegedly) that Series S specs are restrictive this gen. The divide would be even worse is the next gen Series S is a portable. Switch can be underpowered because the target audience are young children.

Starfield wasn’t bad because it feels dated. It suffered for having a bad warp system mechanic and for not having vehicles to explore planets. I’d also say the base building and ship building was boring also but a lot of people liked it.

I've always thought Microsoft should just rotate consoles and not have a next gen at all. Basically, do what Phones do, and release upgrades. Consoles could do every 3-4 years, and support 1 back and current. For example, release a new xbox, remove the series S from the supported lineup and have the current gen be the x and whatever comes out.

Xbox Series P (with Series S-like performance) and Series PC (ASUS RoG Ally-like Elite model with dual-boot to Windows 12 Portable Edition). Maybe the develop Windows "Portable Edition" and let OEM and 3rd party vendors handle the elite version.

The Steam Deck isn't selling that well when compared to Nintendo and phones and tablets. Qualcomm Windows on Arm gaming laptops are coming soon.

My theory is that this will replace the series-s - it will be a switch like device that can connect to a dock/tv... and then that huge next gen leap that was spoken about will replace the series-x... That would make alot of sense to me if that was the case...

Unless it has physical media or does something unique like switch does, we already have the steamdeck and tons of other handhelds that do the digital gaming thing (inluding playing xbox games). This is about as worthless as the psportal. Im sticking with Switch and steamdeck.

Microsoft needs to get a partner to make this hardware and they need to focus on the software experience…. Which means… just build an OS that’s allowed to be installed anywhere on any of these already built portables.

That's a terrible idea, and goes against the entire point of selling a console to begin with: having your own storefront as a hardware manufacturer. Third-parties would not be able to subsidize hardware costs if they didn't have a storefront for themselves. Hence why stuff like the ROG Ally at its cheapest is more expensive than the cheapest Steam Deck model. Without a storefront of their own, third-parties would have to sell consoles at minimum $600-800 to make a profit off of the hardware and the hardware alone.

Instead of having additional skew such as handheld, not great. Plus with all the othe other handhelds out their and switch 2 coming. Thye wont sell well just luke the console itself. They need to focus on rhier quality not quantity of games and sort out their marketing. However you slice it and try to buuter it up. Xbox is a mess at this moment.

My question if they wanted to make up a sci-fi then why not just make one up? They want to take an IP, they should follow the lore of that IP, show is dead to me. They should cancel and reboot with a more dedicated and talented cast and crew, the mastercheek’s universe needs to stop.

3rd party accessory manufacturers will shift to making accessories for the Xbox handheld. It's common sense that an Xbox handheld is coming. Handhelds are rising in popularity (Steam Deck, ROG Ally, Legion Go, PlayStation Portal, etc). PlayStation Portal keeps selling out and Sony is realizing people want another dedicated NATIVE handheld gaming device from them. Microsoft will definitely jump into this market.
