I just used it to do two rooms here at home and it worked just fine. It does have a learning curve. Make sure you are careful when loading it with fresh paint. Too much paint and it will drip or get paint on the rollers leaving track marks on the other surface. Keeping that in mind it worked exactly as intended. I will never paint anything here at home without one. In fact if I don’t have one I will actually drive to the store to get one before I start painting. It does work. Be smart, have common sense, use your brain, be patient and the results will be great.

Being patient and loading with a brush are definitely the key. I could see the minute I bought this that plenty of people were going to watch tuts of guys dipping it in paint and then have problems. And you know, good results take time no matter your method. People think it’s a slam bam process and then complain about results.

I just noticed another poster and i agree 100 %. If your painting your ealls your trim likely needs refreshing. . Caulk your gaps first. Then paint paint out your trim. Then do the walls.. it is way easier to cut in your walls than cutting in your trim.. Get 2 high quality brushes a 2.5 and a 3 inch angled sash brushes . I say 2 because 1 will always work better than the other depending on the application. I dont use tape ever except base to the floor.. laarn how to free hand... try it on a out of the way location. Youll be cutting in like a champ in no time. As far as the pads go.. never used one but willing to try as i have a very awkward stairwell to do and my ladders dont fit but i can reach with a pole.. so i will withhold my critique. Cheers.

I bought something like these before watching your video. I found it to be completely worthless. Just like you, paint got where it shouldn't have, defeating the entire purpose of these tools. Now I have to go back and repaint the ceiling and baseboards. Taping would save time in the long run. Steer clear.

Mine is made upside down! I can't turn the handle, so you can't do edging against the ceiling. Don't see a business phone number, so the tool and pads I bought are useless! The handle actually points down over the roller edge. Weird! Any suggestions?

Simple solution... use a 2.5” brush and learn! Not speaking directly to you but everyone reading this comment. What’s the harm? You learn to appreciate the time and effort that goes into painting instead of using “technological advances” tools like this. Plus it’s fun and worth knowing.

These are not “technologically advanced” as you say. I have been using ones like this product for nearly 50 years here in Canada. I wouldn't even think to start painting a room without one. One can do a large living room trim in about 20 to 30 minutes. Awesome is what I would call them. The demo was very poorly demonstrated in my opinion. Watching this video, I would have never purchased my first one.
@heftyelf

I painted my previous house from top to bottom, doing the edging with a brush. Looking forward to trying out an edging tool this time round. This is hardly a 'technological advance'... it's simply a time saver.
@AndrewMacLaine
@AndrewMacLaine 10 ай бұрын
The results of an edging tool vs. brush changes depending on your current skill level and eye for what is an acceptable job. Years ago, I didn't know the differences in brushes or how much paint to load onto it, so the tool was a godsend. I didn't really care that often the paint didn't go all the way to the corner, because at least it was a straight line. But after a lot more experience and learning that using a brush can get you much more precise results, and I don't use the pad unless the need for speed > precision.

Talk to a painter and see if it’s in their toolbox. Probably not.

True, but this is intended to help everyday homeowners get good results on their own. I've had issues with blue painters tape not sealing properly and cutting in with a brush is an art. I've used the Shur-Line version of the paint pad for years and have painted entire houses quickly and get great results.

I’m terrible at cutting in so I have found the red one from shurline quite usefull. Can a pro or even a lot of diyer’s do a better job and faster with a hand brush I would think so, but I have tried and I can not or just do not care to learn. Most likely the latter
