The thing with the Dyson Sphere I don't get... Where in a solar system would you be able to gather enough matter from either planets/asteroids to encompass a star that can take in the energy and put it to use?? Does a solar system have evough matter within it that you can engulf a star to extract all the energy it gives? I would say it doesn't, so a civilization could never get to that stage.

If you literally mined an entire planet(s) for resources, you could do that. And once you have one up and running, then you can make an infinite amount.

Plenty, a sphere doesn’t have to completely encompass the entirety of a star. I.e the satellites. Also there is the ability to synthesize materials, even using empty planets for the purpose of making synthetic materials to make the sphere. That’s already done here, you know how many things are made of synthetic wood instead of real wood. This type 0 civilization already does that on a massive scale, imagine what a type 1 could do with creating materials.

I think that if you mined an entire planet, like Mercury, for example (wich is very rich of metals) you could manage to build a dyson swarm, a megastructure made up of orbital solar collectors that absorb a significant fraction of the sun's energy, but if you want to collect 100% of the sun energy, you would need to build a dyson sphere, a solid shell wich completely encircles the sun. But to build this structure, you would need to achieve interstellar travel first, because there isn't enough matter in the solar system. The best strategy would probably be to build a dyson swarm first, to collect a significant fraction of the sun's energy and use it to achieve interstellar travel and colonise exoplanets in order to mine them to collect all the materials needed to build the dyson sphere and become a type 2 civilization. What if we had another earth 182,5 days behind/ahead of us in our orbit around the sun? Perhaps another two earths at 91,25 days ahead and behind ours? Perhaps another four at a 45,625 days offset of the initial four? How many extra earths inbetween would be needed in order to experience something with a bigger, physical impact on our lives than commerce, travel, and conflict? What if our orbit around the sun was more like a belt of evenly spaced earth-like planets?

So my question is, type 4 and above can literally influence anything. So why the Fermi paradox? Even the JWST should be able to spot something? It's finding brand new things every week. Maybe it's just a matter of time, which we (in the grand shake off things) don't have a lot of. Memento mori, remember we will die. Could be any day, love every day like it's your last, be present and forget the past and only look forward to the future ❤

@@garywatson3778 I don't know about outside time, but outside biology is also possible. I think it's more likely that life is incredibly rare, our detection is not as good as we pretend it is, and we are missing each other in time as well as space.

Think of all the matter our solar system has... Is there enough to surround the sun?? How small is Jupiter to our sun, the Saturn then the rest of planets. The asteroid belt amounts to nothing so even if we weighed in all that weight how far do you think the sun could be covered by a technology to take in and utilise its energy? Just seems a pointless task to me as it seems impossible unless someone can enlighten me.

I believe the speed of light and faster is possible, but not in that way like in Star Wars or Star Treck. If we would make a Jump into Hyperspace like in the movies, the whole Star Ship would evaporate or something similar. We would have to achieve constantly higher speed in the way we can survive it and slowing down on a longer distance to not crash or missing the destination. But all in total I think these videos are more hype and fantasy than reality. It surely won't be like that.

Teleportation is one way to get around. In the quantum world, things can teleport, so theoretically if you made a machine large enough to be able to teleport quadrillions upon quadrillions of atoms (a spaceship with people) you could achieve interstellar travel through teleportation

I wonder how we dont even know how to construct Dyson sphere but we expect a advance civilization would build one. How could we even know that they would spend their time in doing so. I'm not a sci-fi knowledgeable person. But to me if a civilization manages or thinks of construction of a structure that could collect all of sun's energy for their demands. Wonder what would their home planet become into. Creating such a tech would block sun's energy reaching on other planets. Would not that affect the entire solar system. They would have planned for it offsource. But with civilization that is millions of years ahead of us would be in greater number of population on their planet and would force them to move out of that planet to even think of making such a structure. I feel they would make such tech with temporary mega structure that can house entire planets population.

To be fair, We cant just travel and experience a Type 3 Civ. That would be akin to Ants trying to experience modern day humanity. Not just the tech but the level of consciences. It's not about being advanced. There isn't enough matter in ours or any solar system that can surround a star. Best we have is type 1. Type 2 is out the question so type 3 is just a dream.

I'm curious as to why "advanced civilizations" are always measured in technological capacity and not biological capabilities. I feel like basing our idea of advancement on technology is just the human way of creating a "glass ceiling" that is within OUR capabilities to reach and break. And its based on what we have already made and what we have already done. What if the advanced civilizations are advanced because they are biologically and genetically superior--like mutants or some other "species" like that? What if the defining factor for the upper echelons of an advanced species is being so biologically/genetically superior and self-sufficient that any and all tech is obsolete?
