Man, I was thinking about this during my Instrument training! How a text message alert type of clearance would be a whole lot easier instead of having to be patient and listen to atc

Yet in Canada, no PDC and in LGA you still have to call clearance and confirm your departure. But LGA is worthy of a whole other discussion....

LGA is capacity controlled (along with EWR, JFK, ORD, SFO, & LAX) via slot allocation. So with all 3 major NYC airports being Cap Controlled you will call them because the Tower, Departure ATC and Enroute ATC's are constantly balancing clearances (times, routes, and speed minimum/maximums). NYC airspace is like a ballet being performed in the middle of a football field during the superbowl. If everything doesn't line up properly then aircraft are put into holding patterns as they try to clean up whatever happened to clog the system. Always makes me laugh when I hear one of the Euro Pilots complain that they need to maintain a minimum airspeed until passing (waypoint) because if they don't the ATC will spin them off the approach and have them circling so the flow of aircraft before and after the flight isn't impacted (maintaining the planned flow). They'll get landed 20 or 30 min later.

Clearance delivery is also required out of Class C airports for VFR departures.

Hi do you know what does the letter “L” means in the PDC, it’s beside the aircraft model next to the diagonal it appears in the video in the minute 2:12 thanks.

A.pre departure clearance is when the wife is in the bathroom doing her hair and says “ go ahead and get in the car I’m on the way”, and she then takes another 20 minuets.
