the ball is for balancing too. you use it instead of the roller. that's why there is a groove on the bottom, for the ball to 'slot' into. it's for more advanced balancing. rather than just moving back and forth, you also have to balance side to side...

this is unrelated to the video but idk where else to ask, anyone have tips for the basic tail stop? (the one where you kick up the board dragging the tail to slow down)

Yes actually you can get SMS 0 for free on the website and there is a tutorial on it. You can also sign up for Braille Skateboarding Academy and Aaron Kyro will personally coach you through the lesson.
