Yep, please post more of these kind of clips. Right now I'm particularly interested in after sales/extras delivered to the bride and groom. You once mentioned you shoot Instax images throughout the wedding day and deliver them at the end of the wedding to the bride and groom. I'd love to see a video that goes deeper into this. Same with wedding album production, a deep dive into your way of delivering these would be rewarding viewing. I'm not looking to copy, I just want to get a taste of what goes through your mind, how you approach these oh so important nice "extras". I once read of a husband and wife wedding photography team in Yorkshire that always deliver a full case of champagne to their clients the day after the wedding. WOW. What a glorious concept. Another photographer delivers a USB disk on key in a fancy box tied with ribbons. It's these fresh ideas that I'd love to see you cover in a video. On the other hand, I fully understand if you don't post such things (maybe you only discuss this type of thing to paying students?). All good. Your photography and KZfaq channel are so inspiring, Kevin. Keep going.

What I am most amazed at is your ability to be ever watchful for "the moment" and taking a picture of it. Most photographers are probably like me when we start out, trying to capture "iconic" moments and missing all of the other, extremely important, supporting moments. Thank you...THANK you!

Thanks for the video Kevin! You have literally been my main inspiration for doing wedding photography. I love your style of shooting and have so much to learn from you. I also love how you are content with shooting with only two lenses mostly and don't have to use all of the latest gear. It shows that you are content and helps other photographers learn that they can also make great photos too without having to buy many expensive lenses. Take care and have a great day! I might be getting married soon. Hopefully I can hire you as my photographer. That would be an honor. Haha 🙏🏽🙏🏽

This video was so helpful, thank you so much for this. I absolutely love your style of shooting, it has such a human element to it. I’ve never thought of it before but your photos feel like artistic street photos, but at a wedding. As a second shooter I’ve taken some of these types of photos but still always felt like I had to take more “formal” or staged ones as well, but it’s so much more natural to me to do candids and I like the look so much more so I’m definitely going to try this. Would love videos about career options and how these skills can transfer to other types of photography (e.g., family, events, maybe photojournalism is similar?)

Great shots Kevin and far more interesting than the old style "stand there" shots. Semi retired these days so I only do second camera as I no longer want the hassle. I shoot in B+W and only do candid work, great fun and I love doing it. I only have to hand the cards over lol, Lexar by the look of it, I need a couple of new ones.

Yes please do more of these! I am really drawn to your exact style of photography. It seems that in my area of the USA, people are turned off to 100% documentary style shoots (wedding or otherwise). I would love to hear your take on whether or not this can be solved through proper branding/marketing or is heavily dependent upon the regional consensus. Thank you for your time, Kevin.

I’m in the US too, in Texas. I’ve never done a wedding but it seems to be ingrained in the culture to do the traditional portraits, etc. Not that it’s wrong, it’s just expected unless you happen to find a bride willing to buck the trend.

Love your style and photos! How do you approach focus in these fast moving event/documentary/candid scenarios? Focus is one thing I always struggle with... moments happen so quickly and my best bet is use cenerpoint focus then a quick flick to recompose and hope I got the moment.

I like these type of videos. It would be cool to see you just focus on a video that shows how you get those portrait like moments. That’s the one thing I think a lot of wedding photographers have a hard time with going full documentary. I myself always try to get clients to swig that way but it’s hard for them to understand.

Thanks Kevin, brilliant shots - love your work and I certainly love this style of photography! Just out of interest, I guess most of your work is natural light? Also, what are your typical go to lenses for those 'at home' or hotel room shoots where the bride is getting ready? Thanks again for the videos, always interesting to watch and learn from :)

what a great video. You come across as a great guy and your images rock. I wonder what you approach is towards DOF. You shoot natural light so I guess you need to shoot wide open quite often. Just focus on the main subject and "forget" about the sharpness of the rest? Thanks for taking the time to post these videos. I allways enjoy seeing them. Greets from Holland Steven

Wonderful images as always. Question. How do you balance the usage of b+w vs color images? I'd love to go completely b+w for my wedding clients but have yet to do so. For the time being, they're more like random "artistic" additions to an otherwise all color wedding. Were you always a documentary wedding photographer or was that a switch you made sometime during your career? I've been shooting for well over a decade and my style has always been a bit of both traditional and documentary. And to be honest, I've always found your documentary style to be what I'm most happy doing as well. One can only do so many "look at me and say cheese"... =)

Love your work. You have a repeating theme going on you have never recognized. Hands. Most, if not all of your best images, include the subject's hands DOING something. It's a trick of the brain that imparts motion/action/movement into still photography. If the hands are doing something the brain interprets it as movement. If doing nothing it can add calmness. Hands in action. That tends to excite the brain and it "stimulates" the image. This includes people clasping hands, their own or others. Hands touching completes a connection between humans, makes the viewers eyes move and become stimulated , and when hands are clasped alone it designates serenity, which calms the viewer. (The Vicar at the church). The touching from one human to another is once again movement and action in an otherwise still image. It is identical to your references to eye contact. It completes connections, invokes an emotion in the viewer, and overall holds together the composition. I see many of the classic Greek rules of composition completed in your use of hands. When I teach others documentary work I always tell them to include hands doing something. It brings movement into the shot. Take a few minutes to review your favorites and check out all the hand action you got working for you. Your shot of the five ladies at the kitchen table (19:15) shows hands "hair cutting", hands "applying makeup. Action things. Then the best part, "hands clasping" bringing calmness to the otherwise "moving shot". The triangle of mom's arm is always a compositional bonus! Hands in action; It's a beautiful little mind trick that adds energy/movement/direction/composition. Keep up the great videos. I always learn from your work.
