UPDATE: So in this video I use the term "hermaphrodite" to explain people who possess biologically male and female attributes - this is an incorrect term! The correct term is "Intersex" =)
So I thought I'd try and help out with some terms and definitions, and explain the gendery-wendery world of being transgender! Also, I'm a dude today... WOW.

@adam zarbon your referring to birth gender yes the are two birth gender and only two if you don’t take what the person wants/feels into account the moment you do you realize there’s hundreds of genders and all of them unique and within those genders are people that feel different gender at different times also why the fuc and you on a video about gender fluidity if you just gon tell me that theirs only two gender that are set and can’t fluxate???????? (when quoting the video) the human minds complex so it makes sense why people would identify with something other than the two birth genders and gender that work different than just man all the time and just woman all the time

I know what he is trying to get at. As someone who studies sociology, he is correct to say that gender is not biological. It is socially taught. When we think of gender, we mean the behaviors that are associated with a sex, sex being the physical reproductive organs we were born with (or weren't born with). We are essentially told to play a role from the day we are born. You *act* like a girl or boy, but what makes a girl or a boy is not the same person to person or culture to culture. It is very much a spectrum and not concrete. This is why people can sometimes feel like they want to play the role of a man, or play the role of a woman- thus, genderfluidty.
@EduardoLopez-sp5oy
@EduardoLopez-sp5oy 5 жыл бұрын
I really think you guys should come up with new words and concepts for all this stuff instead of twisting the actual ones. Gender refers to your biological nature and there is objectively only 2. If you don't identify with what you were born with, I guess that's your call and everyone should be totally ok with it, but then again come up with a new concept to define that instead of "gender"! Why always strive for direct confrontation by twisting things (and making fool of yourselves in the process) and not for innovation and the development of new concepts?

I’m so thankful that I realized that I’m genderfluid at a fairly young age (13). But it also has made it a lot more difficult to feel accepted and understood. I feel a lot of the time that I’m the only person like myself on the planet, and that it’s useless to try and explain my gender identity because it’s too difficult for anyone else to understand. Seeing even one person out there who I know is like me gives me immeasurable hope. @@InanisNihil Here's my problem with the argument that gender identity is "scientifically proven to only be two genders", or the more popular, "x and y chromosomes" one: We have observed gender fluidity throughout a lot of nature in several complex organisms such as, octopus, some jellyfish, certain species of school fish, and a ton of different insects and worms. An example, a school of clownfish is made of one female and several males, but once the female dies one of the males is able to completely change its sex, as well as its reproductive functions in order to fill the role of female. Saying that gender is as simple as an x or y is choosing to ignore several million years of evolution.

At first I was a huge "Only two genders" thinker. But actually, after watching this, you didn't turn it into a rant or anything. You stuck to it being calm, and you explained it in a way I could get around to understanding it in my own way. I personally have been questioning for a little while if I may be gender fluid or not. Or perhaps- some other gender on the spectrum like genderfluid? I don't go in between feeling 100% male one day and 100% female the next. I just- I am completely comfortable with being biologically female. But like- I've also been a /huge/ tomboy almost my entire life. Since I was like 2. But like- I dress like a girl /sometimes/ and act like a girl. And I'm completely fine with it. But also- I most of the time dress like a guy but feel completely comfortable being a girl. But then there's times where I go weeks on end hating being a female and actually getting to the point where I contemplate suicide because I can never be biologically male. Then- there's times where I could care less and sometimes I even sort of drift off into "My gender means nothing no matter what and I'm just a human and nothing at all so who even cares" sort of thing. Would that just be classic tomboy behavior? Genderfluid? Bigender? Agender? A mix of all three? I just- I'm kinda confused more or less now, but I kinda can stretch and make more room for exception after watching this. People for months have been trying to convince me "There's more than two!" And I never listened because I always thought- based on my christian belief mostly (I'm sorry for being religion into this) that- in my belief- God made man and woman. Not anything else. So how could there be more than two? But like- at this point, after you explained gender being a spectrum, being calm about it, and this and that- I get it. Seriously- thank you. I don't know if you'll see my comment or not, but /if/ you happen to, or someone else who understands this subject more than I do currently- read back on my issues about my whole feelings on my own gender and give me some advise? Thanks

Can I also maybe state something that I kinda think is wrong but maybe not? This entire topic is but isn't new to me- How can someone actually identify as trans when like- in the name itself- one would be /transitioning/ from one gender to another? Like- if you ask a transboy what his gender is, sure- he's going to be biologically female and always will. But- he's going to say he's male because that's what he's identifying himself with. That's what he's transitioning to. Same with a transgirl. A transgender person isn't going to say "I'm transgender" it's just like- I don't know how to exactly define it. But it's just in the name itself a title to show that someone is transitioning from one to another gender. That's not actually a gender. But then again- that's kind of how I view it? Because I have transgender friends and family members? Yours may be different I'm sorry-

For me personally I do not think your change or shift in gender doesn't correlate to whom you are attracted to. If you're into males while feeling more male and while feeling more female then awesome. You don't have to put strict guidelines on who you are attracted to.

Everyone who is leaving nasty comments is ignorant. Not becuase they dont accept this idea... but becuase they fundamentally dont understand the difference between sex and gender. Sex is the parts you were born with. So yes, if you have a penis you're a male. If you have a vagina, you're a female. Everyone leaving comments has been very vocal about this and they are true. However, where they fail to comprehend is when the idea of gender is brought up. Gender is how you express yourself. For example, a person can have a penis and act feminine. Gender has been socially constructed within human society and is sooooo complex; which is where the spectrum from 1-10 comes in. Overall, people need to understand the difference between sex, gender, and sexuality before they voice their opinion!!!
@zsasso9490
@zsasso9490 6 жыл бұрын
Then there are those of us who get what you mean about sex and gender, and who have read Simone De Beauvoir and others in the field, but who still disagree in the name of logic. I think the trouble we're having with it is two-fold: First, the enforcement (by law) of using particular language. Second, the invention of an endless taxonomy of gender identity names, which has well over 300 genders and is constantly changing and growing. Between those two things is a huge conflict. How can anything that mutable be fixed into law? It's a recipe for disaster and utter chaos, yet if we don't use someone's requested pronouns it is being called an act of violence. This is clearly not the definition of violence, legally.

Hi! Seadresa? This is; Magenta! after watching your video. I have a question? So my question is this; Can a gender fluid person, switch gender expressions from let's say; one moment to the next? An example; one moment while talking to a friend, I switch male expression to female expression at that moment! Which I do offen and more so when I'm hangout in gay clubs or the village in manhattan. Is this gender fluid or queerfluid? Or in order to be genderfluid you have to let a day go by before changing expressions? Thanks!

It took me 21 years to understand why sometimes I wake up and I want to dress like a man and sometimes I wanna look like the most delicate lady. For a moment (some years) I thought I could be homossexual, but I was sure I wasn't.... And I never felt like I should have surgery for extreme changes.. I've always been happy that I could look like both man and woman. So, what was that? Why do I never get offended when people say "Damn, you look like a boy in these clothes!" ?? Then, one day, during a conversation with a friend and a transgender in college I finally got it. They explained me the difference between the gender female I was born, my straight orientation, and my Genderfluidity!!!! I could never be happier! =D Tomorrow we will have the Parade here in Sao Paulo, Brasil. Unfortunately, It's not my day off from work, but next year, I will be there for sure

genderfluidity doesn't really exist. Your brain is directly correlated to your gender, so if you're born a female, you act like a female. What I understand is that genderfluidity either doesn't exist or there's something wrong with your brain.

+Tyrant372 Crossdressing as it generally understood refers to gender expression. Gender fluid refers to a person's sense of their own gender. Simply, crossdressing is what one wears, gender fluid is how someone feels. Some crossdressers don't identify as female, others do. Some, like genderfluid people identify as both at different times.
@Qjciak
@Qjciak 8 жыл бұрын
+Tyrant372 cross dressing and gender fluid is like singing and being musician. First is way of expression, second one is who you are. Yeah, bad example. Basicly people who cross dress might be of many possible genders, like author of this video said, gender is spectrum, so there are many possibilities. Being gender fluid is.... ill try to explain it this way: its like... your mood may be different based on situation or maybe just one day you have good mood and the other you have bad mood, yea? So thats basicly what being gender fluid is, just in terms of gender. Sometimes i might feel feminine or masculine or none or just a bit of one or a bit of both and i might or may not want to express it using cultural constructs like gender roles.

Dude, I'm Genderfluid too. I usually identify as male, but sometimes being a girl is my thing too. (I'm biologically female.) I've felt like this for as long as I can remember, and I regret nothing.~ Also it's a shame how Asexuality is often erased or forgotten in the LGBTQA+ community. I know plenty of asexuals and they are the chillest people I've met, no joke. (And there was this one time I kinda experienced myself what it's like to be Asexual and Aromantic, but it was because of an allergic reaction to Prozac. Not having boys, girls, and other hot people clouding my mind was really strange for me, but I didn't care at the time. It was kinda like a breath of fresh air, having my mind thinking about everything except infatuations and appearences, but at the same time for me it wasn't natural, so who knows XD.)

And when I say ..." the whole "spectrum" thing", I well, I am actually not even a teenager (pls don't judge) so I didn't really know what the word itself meant but once I watched this video I understood and now I feel so much more confident in myself. Maryssa I second this. This KZfaqr is just trying to help people who are curious/questioning/in need, yet there are still stupid monkeys who don't take the time to do their research and post a bunch of bullshit they call fact. It was supposed to be a beautifully helpful vid, instead it got turned into this hate dump.

Maryssa When people start spreading stupid things, it matters, especially when young impressionable children watch videos like this and then start on their path to becoming pussies who can't handle the world and think the white male patriarchy is oppressing them. All the while people in the middle east, East Asia, and parts of Africa are actually being oppressed, being starved, being forced to have their genitals mutilated, their children taken away to be sex slaves and soldiers, beaten, stoned etc. But the people over here? The ones who have a roof over their head, governed by a democracy, governed by laws and rules and regulations, have a fully functioning emergency service system, can purchase food and drink at affordable prices, get work easily, can send their children off to school instead of a battleground or a sex dungeon, and have access to healthcare sporting the finest modern medicine has to offer, and they get called a name that disagrees with them, and suddenly they are oppressed. See the problem yet?
@erichan8382
@erichan8382 7 жыл бұрын
cadkls Actually, persons like you only reinforce the patriarchy. See, oppression is not a competition. We can see that Third World inhabitants are being as you mentioned mistreated. Yet it doesn't diminish the anguish that plagues better placed persons. You are the living proof of the oppression and discrimination that First World persons of different gender and sexuality suffer from. You seem to be against even the female population, as seen with your comment about "being pussies".

patriarchy does not exist, speaking as a white male who agrees with his biological factual gender instead of a feeble minded ideology fed into the minds of young people who are to ignorant to see the that's the whole LGBT thing is a joke.

All these rude disrespectful comments made me very upset :[ Im not anything on the lgbtqia list but i do consider myself an ally and i dont understand how people can be so hateful to other human beings. Just last week i was at a conference at Penn State and some lady in the back thought it was hilarious and a great thing that the percentage for the transgender suicide rate was high. Whats even worse is this woman was a schools guidance counselor or nurse, Can you imagine if that child teenager was getting bullied and needed her help? People need to educate themselves before they go bashing on other peoples ways of life.

Hi, how was it to lose the girl because of it? I am genderfluid and my boyfriend told me that if I am genderfluid he will break up with me because he won't date anything other than a girl.. (We have been together for about 1 year and 4 months.) too scared to tell him that I am genderfluid because I really love him..

so, if I got this correct gender fluid is the thought process in which one sees their gender as something which has no actual definablity. but if that were the case then strictly speaking biologically, one would still be a male or female? from what I got from this video gender fluidity is more of a culture being created or a way of living verses one's sexuality or am I wrong?

Doesn’t gender fluidity reinforce gender stereotypes though? Just because some days you behave/feel/dress in a masculine way does not mean you are now male and same for feminine and female. Surely everyone should be able to be as masculine and feminine as they want without needing to change their pronouns constantly? Genuinely curious.

I respect you so much! So many people who don't understand are in the comments being rude. But you show the kind, curious side of the internet! It's a hard thing to understand, and I get how it can seem that way! I thought that at first too! I recommend this article. It helped me a lot! www.nationalgeographic.com/magazine/2017/01/how-science-helps-us-understand-gender-identity/

Elliptic Tae that article doesn’t really refute his point. Saying that gender isn’t defined by roles but then saying you’re male/female because you adhered to those roles makes no sense.

rose 123 look mate so does everything else, genderfluid isn't just feeling feminine, you could be a totally guy like girl. It just depends on your personality, how you are as the gender you are
