I'll be honest, this tent has confused me from the first moment I saw it.
You'll see what I mean in the video....
This is a VERY cheap tent from Temu that Actually Impresses....I don't believe it either.

Quick Update : I reached out to the company Grand Canyon concerning this tent and Temu and they never responded. - Luke

Whoever these Grand Canyon brand people are, they contracted a plant in China to make their product, so what you bought was from either the plant owner or some employees, if a design is at all popular anywhere they will after hours continue to run the plant producing the other person's product then sell them at prices way undercutting the rightful owner of the brand because they can sell it without all the overhead of marketing and shipping it to them and such, this is what happens every day in China.

That Oxford taffeta ground sheet material you referred as a cheap tarp is a whole lot better than what most modern tents use. I still have my first tent that has the same ground sheet material in it and that tent is now fifty years old and has never once leaked.

Thanks Luke. I think this is another sign that the Chinese pricing cartel model is breaking down. This is just a realistic price for stock that wasn't selling at the inflated prices elsewhere. I've concluded that those online markets that look open and fully competitive really aren't. Everything that interests me was steadily climbing in cost well before Covid. Then this year I scored a Mongar 2 and Cloud Peak 2 via Amazon for half the price on Aliexpress. And the 20D versions too.

I've done two orders from Temu and so far I'm very impressed with the stuff. An interesting fact about them, they just launched in September 2022 and are already doing 1/3rd the sales of amazon, and it's no wonder when you get the exact same stuff for less that half the price.

@@SamaelMoneyStein Yeah I'm not sure what happened but not only did prices increase there but their shipping changed and got way slower, back in the day even with normal non-prime free shipping I would get packages within 3-5 days but then it started taking 5-8 days and prime 2 day was taking 3 or 4. Temu is even slower shipping since it comes from china but at less than half the price I can accept the slowness.

An old friend of mine bought a junk tent with fiberglass poles several years ago. While trying to get one of the ends in the grommet the pole snapped and the recoil drove it into his forearm at the elbow and back out at his wrist on the other side of his arm. Ruined our trip, obviously, but it also ruined his arm and his construction career because even after a hell of a lot of surgeries and physical therapy he was never again able to twist his forearm or grip anything in his right hand tight enough to do anything with it. Left a really nasty scar, too.

You can scrap the tent and keep the fly after you burn it. Replace the poles and make them aluminum for a floorless tent.😎👍 A couple coughlins heavy duty stakes with plastic green pole holders. Personally don't like a completely sealed tent. Going floorless will prevent pooling if you have a leak. enable you to use a stove and trap heat more effectively.

I've seen some ads from temu and the prices were so good, I thought it was a scam of some kind. At least I know you actually got a product. I bought an off brand 2 man tent for 70 dollars a couple years ago and I am totally happy with it. It weighs 5 lbs and has a full fly and even a ground cloth. The bottom looks a lot more impressive than that one and it's roomier. Aluminum poles and I'm pretty sure it's nylon or something like it. My other tent weighs 3 lbs but I get claustraphobic in it. Can't sit up or move around.

I've bought some things from Temu, nothing for outdoors, just kitchen and personal stuff. The prices on a lot of their stuff are so low, I don't really care if it works "well" or not, and the quality can be surprisingly good. One of my first purchases was a vacuum sealer for $15 - FIFTEEN USD!!! I figured going in that there was no way it would actually work, but it works pretty damn well. It doesn't have a lot of features, but for $15, I don't expect it to have all of the bells and whistles - just to vacuum seal a pouch. I've got a pouch I sealed when I first bought it (over a year ago now), and it's still sealed tight and no air has leaked in - I call that a success! I'll be interested to find out how your "cheap" tent works in real life. One question you immediately brought to mind with your comment about, "It's a $50 tent, and the materials feel like a $50 tent" - if that's the case, how does the company justify charging 100 Euros for the same tent on its website?

One thing you have to realize is that in other countries, which is where Temu is stationed, just like Aliexpress, Alibaba, etc, the literal 100% same things we buy here for X amount of price, are super cheap in the rest of the world by comparison. Prices are literally jacked up in America because they know they can. It's entirely possible that either Grand Canyon is in on it, ooor, someone else is buying Grand Canyon stuff super cheap, still jacking the price up relative to their country, but at the same time, still being able to offer it to us at half what we would normally buy it for and still be able to make a profit.

Grand Canyon selling the "seconds" through Temu? Just a thought because of the loose threads and damage to the the mesh. 🤔

I doubt you will see this. However I recently purchased a Eureka Mountain Pass 3. It’s a convertible 4th season tent that can be easily used year round. It’s price is mid ($420 for the 3 man) and I’m pretty well floored. For the price it’s giving a solid run at tents way above its price point. I think your pack may be interesting if winter camping on a budget is something they like.

I've a friend who is an industrial engineer in Hong Kong. If you are a big company, a chain and want to sell something like a lawnmower, but don't want to build it yourself, my friend will source the parts from China, have it assembled and then shipped to your warehouse. A few years a go, a large hardware chain hired him to put together a small push lawn mower which he did, it was done and labeled with the name of the chain and ready to ship. When the buyer came to inspect it, they found something they didn't like and canceled the order. My friend simply sold the mowers, labeled with the Ace Hardware logo, to someone else. So, 15,000 Ace Hardware mowers ended up who knows where. I'll bet something like that happened with these tents and Temu ended up with them instead of Grand Canyon.

I have not had problems with my temu items so far. Want to see if this is waterproof. I might want to get a second bug out tent.

I have used TEMU for several inexpensive items for which I had no expectations other than a low, low price. Mesh bags, cheap sunglasses, yard shoes, etc. If you want three pair of cheap sunglasses for $10 and don’t care if they break or get lost, then fine. I bought some super cheap razors. Use two or three times and throw away. But like I say, they were cheap. That’s all I expect and I’m happy with that.

I have recently made a few orders from teemu... mostly small cheaper items I couldn't find elsewhere. The delivery was very fast.. some items but only costing under €1 were junky plastic but the majority did what they said on the tin and good quality... and yes were third or less the price one would expect to pay elsewhere. Their email updates were very efficient and itemized and if some things were going to arrive before others or separate orders bundled together they send an update email. And they credit you with €5 if any item in an order arrives after the stated arrival date..

FYI ; TEMU says they have a 90 day return policy but they don't. If you wait 90 days TEMU will not except the return. The maximum allotted time to get in touch with TEMU is between 80 and 89 days and the TEMU as a company was setup to take out another online company. TEMU is a Chinese company as is ALIBABA. I can not remember the name of the online company TEMU was setup to take out though.

This is an interesting idea for a super inexpensive tent. My worry with this tent is exactly what you mentioned during the set-up - I'd need to be very careful with the poles, and inserting them into the sleeves. Also, the rain fly not being attached to the tent gives me pause. If there is a big storm, will the rain fly eventually shift to one side? Very interesting.

If this tent is waterproof, I'm probably going to get one since it's cheap. I don't see many one man tents that would be practical for someone who is 6'2".

The market is flooded with knockoffs, take airsoft for example... I'm all about saving money, but I typically buy direct or from reputable dealers...Temu is very questionable. I look forward to hear about your inquiry sent to Grand Canyon, but would also like to see a side by side comparison should you purchase a Apex 1 directly from them or by a reputable dealer. Otherwise great content, keep sharing, and I'll keep watching/liking!

It's out of stock right nou on Temu, maybe thanks to your video? LOL I'm eagerly waiting for that rain test and if it passes (something tells me that it will not), I'm going to buy this tent. I'm aware of the quality, but the design and shape of it is a `rara avis`.

Looks like some really nice model features--multiple vents and guy lines, fly placement, lots of mesh--and good size for one person, coupled with substandard build materials and quality control. A company with better production standards could easily put together a similar model for $125-150 that would probably fly off of Amazon.

I got a catoma burrow bug net on that website for 40.00 bucks 2 months ago and I'm just so happy. I looked up your video you did years ago on these bug nets, the instructions showed on the inside of the bag match the same exact way yours did in the video. I'm starting to wonder if the manufacturers are not trying to make a little money on the side, or somebody that works for that manufacturer. The sneaky thing about timu is the seller only sells a few items at a time. If you luck out and see an item on there best to get it then because it's probably not going to be there long.
