Well I’m 5 yrs out of high school but there are scholarships only for black people. There’s an example. Another one is that i can shit down a business if I claim racism. Because I’m a black female. I can end someone’s whole career. This is a no tolerance time. And twitter would have my back anytime if i were to use my color and play victim. There’s something also called affirmative action. honestly, i don’t think she’s blackfishing at all. hear me out: in the videos you can clearly see that her body is still “white” and the fact that her foundation is literally just too yellow for her skintone does not mean that she’s trying to be black. also, i think that having braids is not stealing from another culture, it’s admiring it. obviously, the hairstyle looks fucking GREAT on women of colour, but also on some white women (that’s an opinion ofc) so why not wear in? i don’t see anything offensive, she does not hate on the black community. blackfishing and racism clearly exist and they are still a bigass problem, but she is not blackfishing. liking to get a tan is also not blackfishing, as long as you don’t imitate the CULTURE. having a skin tone that’s a little darker than your own makes you look less pale and people have been doing it for ages without ANY context to the black community whatsoever.
@mirahshay18334 жыл бұрын

Shauna Raymond it can also come down to the fact that braids on different textured hair is actually damaging. A person of colors hair is often much thicker and stronger, built to stand the braid. Whereas those with straight hair, aren’t. It’s pretty, but there are things best admired from a distance. I wouldn’t want for anyone’s hair to fall out :(

Oscar Mota I feel like she was trying to say how people with texture/curly hair straighten there hair with heat which damages it completely, or if they put on wigs incorrectly they can rip out their edges. Just like how people with straight hair wears box braid and it can mess up there hair. So for people hating on her saying it’s gonna mess up her hair they are kinda being hypocritical. Because most likely the only way you can’t messing up your hair most of the time is keeping it natural, and that goes for everyone

Kinki Dot 😪 There are people dying rn and everyone keeps worrying about a young girl trying to flex on the gram. It’s not that important. People need to mind their own businesses and start focusing on themselves 😫 that’s what made her famous... unnecessary attention. I understand that some people are offended by her looks, and I feel sorry for them but right now she won’t change a damn thing. She’s doing her own thing and y’all (including myself) can’t do nothing about it. Stop making yourself crazy and just ignore her. I'm from the Caribbean. This whole idea of cultural appropriation via how you style your hair is a joke to me. I'm not of African descent. My island is basically One third African, one third Indian, one third mixed with a minority European presence. When i was growing up my Afro friends parents would teach us how to braid our hair and do their hairstyles. It is still common. We live as one and have an appreciation and respect for each other's culture. They learn our ways of cooking and cultural dress. It's considered "unity" where I'm from. It does not underscore anyone else's culture but grows appreciation for it. I'm not a fan of this girl but I don't see the debate here with this situation or any similar "blackfishing" debate based on hairstyle. Just my 2 cents.

I don’t understand why people mix up HAIR TEXTURE with CULTURE, like no! Culture definition 1. The customs, arts, social institutions, and achievements of a particular nation, people, or other social group. 2.Culture is a word for the 'way of life' of groups of people, meaning the way they do things. ... Excellence of taste in the fine arts and humanities, also known as high culture. An integrated pattern of human knowledge, belief, and behavior. The outlook, attitudes, values, morals, goals, and customs shared by a society. No where does it say hair texture. Hair texture and colour stems from DNA not culture. Edit: I NEVER SAID I WAS AGAINST CULTURE SHARING AND IM NOT OFFENDED BY IT YES. I understand Vikings also wore braids

I understand your point of view based the change skin color not being cultural appropriation, but on the other hand the definition provided is somewhat false. As we all know (not trying to be a conspiracy theorist), that definition was most likely made by someone who was either un experienced or white( not being racist or biased). History shows that in many cultures that are racially black, their texture and color of hair was based on their hair, and it shaped who they are. What I mean is that if it is included in a culture, it is within teach of being damaged by cultural appropriation. No offense to what you said though, because I respect it, just wanted to bless you with more information love ❤.

For those who are unaware, people who are born with that skin tone have to deal with struggles, stereotypes, and dangers that she does not. To simply pick and choose to look like a different ethnicity without acknowledging the history and sacrifice of that culture is stealing and appropriating. You don’t get to take a part of who someone is without also getting the struggle that comes with it and those born into privilege will not experience that, and therefore should respect those who do and what belongs to them.
