As a young black woman, it is very pleasing mentally and emotionally to see two black men connect and express themselves on camera while giving insight on how realities of a black man outside from media stereotypes. I want my biological brothers and father to bond like this but don't know how to initiate it (or maybe it's not my place to). You two give me inspiration to renew relationships with loved ones and old friends.

15minutes of tear wiping later....they have such a deep, genuine and unbreakable friendship. The topics that emerged here are so relevant and they addressed them in a very honest and mature way. I have no idea how old these guys are, but as a 24 year old guy its great to hear them speak about what it means to be a man, and how the ideologies of masculinity are a bit messed up. My father was by no means a manly man, but he's also very reserved and quiet so I guess i've never heard somebody older than me talk about this sort of thing. I always take so much away from these videos from personalities I would never expect to be able to relate to.

I cant help but say thank you..thank you for sharing the love that you have for one another with us. My heart aches and is warm at the same time..I really pray that God will deliver Keith from this cancer. And I really pray that God will continue to bless Ja-Rons heart. Keith has nothing to fear, Ja-Ron is def not going anywhere. I can see his truth in his eyes. He meant what he said.

Keith Walker thank you so much for listening. Some things were mentioned about macho masculinity amongst black men that if it were spoken of more openly, more would understand it. I love that you spoke about each others qualities and could discuss what masculinity means to you as individuals and not the world.

This kind of conversation among black men is almost nonexistent in today's world. I can relate to those guys so much. I could remember vividly when black women would ask me "If my wife was white" simply because of the way I spoke. And just as he asked, I would also ask the same in my mind: "Like, do you realize what you are saying?" Wow, just so incredibly moving and beautiful. I am going to donate to this site. @valeriearthur66
@valeriearthur66 7 жыл бұрын
I am not sure if he would say anything different to me. However, I would ask if he had the need to suppress his cancer (or feelings, vulnerability) due to masculinity and race? Did it make it harder to relate to others? For example, because of the stigma of the "Strong Black Woman Syndrome" people thought I was fine, people assumed I am strong. It didn't leave me room to be vulnerable because of the Stigma. I would want to know if he has ever felt that way during his battle with Cancer. I would not wish Cancer on my worst enemy. I am in remission now. Tuesday was my last treatment.
@keithwalker3989
@keithwalker3989 7 жыл бұрын
Hey Valerie, thank you so much for taking the time to reach out to me! I definitely felt the need to suppress my cancer due to masculinity. Not so much because I am a black man but when you're in your 20s and 30s people tend to think that they are immortal. I never wanted to be the buzzkill that ruins the mood. Relating wise, all of my friends are amazingly empathetic! Sadly, no one can truly know what we go through. To be honest, explaining how dating works when you have cancer has been the most challenging. Earlier tonight, I even received a message saying she was not interested because of cancer. I find that we spend too much time caring what others think of us. Many moons ago I went out with my friends, whilst, hanging with them a pain shot up my back but I decided to stay quite. As we were walking I let my fear of what my friend might think of me get in the way of my own safety and ended up in the hospital. There are no simple answers when it comes to living with cancer. I can definitely tell you that first, you have, to be honest with yourself, only then will you allow yourself to be open to others about your pain.

this was very soothing... just watching them converse, laughing, tearing up, it was great. Il was very calming, and i needed it. I just feel so much calmer. My boyfriend found out that he has a brain cancer two days ago, and i can't stop crying. I'm scared shitless. for him, for me... it's very tough. I woke up this morning, and for half a second i forgot everything, and then i kinda jerk my head backward as if something was coming at me in my face as i remembered what was going on. Anyways... i was looking for a soothing, calming, positive thing to get my mind off of it all and give my head and eyes a break, and i found it in those videos. Thank you.

I cried during this video, its one of the best videos y'all made and thats what I said about the most recent mother and daughter videos. Honestly you all make some of the most meaningful, profound and creative videos I have ever seen. Love it definitely looking forward to when this is taken overseas

For the past few months I've been obsessed with The Skin Deep. I love love love, the content ya'll put out, but Keith is definitely one of my favorites. I literally lost it when I watched "The Window". It's crazy how big of a positive impact Keith has on the people in his life, while still battling his own demons. So many people are so "woe is me", but Keith is the exact opposite. I aspire to be Keith. Thank you The Skin Deep for being an awesome channel, but also thank you Keith for being the beautiful person that you are. I hope I get to see more videos with you. Ja-ron is pretty amazing too :)

The Skin Deep, what do I take away. Some perspective about myself, I am always hard on myself about certain things, and that I need to stop and relax. Hope that it will work out.

Thank you for being so raw and showing other boys that they can learn, evolve and set new standards despite challenging/traumatic experiences - that boys can turn out to be good people, no need for standards of being a "man". One of my favorites -. Sending all my love, positive vibes and healing energy to you both from Kl, Malaysia

Thank you for such an insightful comment! What do you believe is one of the biggest takeaways from this video and their relationship?
@Thashi179

I don't know if there is one specific take away. I think that the video shows viewers that two men can have an extremely deep and real relationship - with all the emotions! That men can be compassionate and sensitive to each other without having to be weird about it. It makes me realize that I want all my close relationships (with friends, family or romantic relationships) to be this open and natural.
