Please, brothers and sisters, read “Knowing God” by J.I. Packer. 2nd best book begins the Bible. It should be a must read for all Christians. The book includes some great questions for each chapter. It will change your life.

Your attitude sums up Christendom of America. Jesus Christ is merely a Sunday side dish. There is a lot more than repentance. Read Luke 9:23. You must deny yourself, pick up your cross daily and follow him.

@@klausmkl I’m not sure it’s an attitude of Sunday side dish. Maybe it’s teachers wasting so much time trying to have longer sermons and fit the time allotted. There are so many sermons that take an hour because of lofty words and testimonies and build-ups and climaxes to make the whole thing interesting. I love the apostle Paul because it’s something that he acknowledges that he was never good at. And he was simple. It shouldn’t take an hour to define a term and give a few examples to further give an idea of what it means. Does it take you an hour to read the definition of something in the dictionary and the examples that it gives as well? Maybe that is what the original commenter had in mind.

@Marie W 777 Oh I know that, trust me I understand perfectly, I was just saying many people say 'well, I believe in Jesus now; that's all I need to do to be saved." Now that's very true, but sometimes people go further than that, and they do sinful things full well knowing that what they are doing is wrong, and they ignore that urge God has given them to flee their sin. I am saying if you have faith, but do not feel a need to fix yourself up (works) then your faith might be dead. Do not worry, I am not a Catholic who believes works are what saves people. Great Bible verses there. God Bless

Bible repentance for salvation is to go from unbelief to belief. To quit trusting in our works to trusting in Jesus finished work on the cross as the only way of salvation by grace. Romans 11;29 For the GIFTS, (Romans 6:23,) and the calling of God, (John 12:32) are without repentance. Irrevocable, can not be changed back. Romans 4:5-8. When we trust Jesus plus nothing for the free gift of eternal life, He imputes His perfect righteousness to us APART FROM WORK. Blessed is the ma whose sins are covered, Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin. Jesus paid our sin debt in full, past, present, and future sins so we could no longer be condemned. John 3:16-18. Since it is free, we have nothing to boast in. Ephesians 2:8-9 and Romans 3:26-28. You can not boast in free. Romans 11;6 AMAZING GRACE, JESUS PAID IT ALL AND WE PAID 0. The GIFT of God is eternal life. What a wonderful gift. Jesus paid our debt and set us free.

Not a clear understanding of Repentance in regards to what it means and when it comes in ones life as a Christian. I just did a search on this guy looking for a message on Salvation. That is not what repent means. In fact, you will not even find the word repent in the gospel of John. The Jews needed to repent of trusting in the law to save the, and trust in Jesus to save them. But they would not. The Pharisees trusted in their own works. Keeping the law and doing good works to save themselves. Matthew 7:21-23 They boasted in what they did to earn heaven by their own works. Romans 11:29 For the GIFTS, eternal life, and the calling of God, John 12:32, is without repentance. Irrevocable, can not be changed back. Gods word. John 6:47 Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that believeth on me HATH EVERLASTING LIFE. John 3:18 Believers are no longer condemned. Unbelievers are condemned already because they have not believed on the name of the Son of God. Our works can not save sinners which we all are. John 3:16 For God so loved us sinners, that He gave His only begotten Son, Jesus, that WHOSOEVER, anybody, that believeth in Him, should not perish, but HAVE EVERLASTING LIFE. Jesus said it, we believe it, and that settles it. God can not lie. John 5:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that heareth my word, and believeth on Him that sent me, HATH EVERLASTING LIFE, (Present tense) and shall not come into judgement, but is passed from death unto life. First John 5:13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God, that ye may KNOW YE HAVE ETERNAL LIFE. Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, and we all sin, and we all die, but the GIFT of God is eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord. You can not boast in free. It seems you're shadow-boxing here. I listened again to the vid wondering if I'd missed some suggestion that we are saving ourselves as our orientation to God reverses. Or that faithfulness in following Jesus is the work that saves us. I don't hear Packer saying such things. Nor do I hear you explain your distinctly different concept of repentance. Surely you don't claim it's as anemic as cognitive ascent to a proposition. That's not scriptural. Earlier you referred to unbelief/belief as though it is a mechanical either/or state. That might have some appeal as an abstract theory, but it has never been the experience of salvation lived by anyone in scripture or fellow believers we witness today.

The gospel we believe. First Corinthians 15:1-4. That Christ died for our sins, according to the scriptures, that He was buried and rose again on the third day, according to the scriptures. When we believe that gospel we are sealed by the Holy Spirit of promise unto the day of redemption. Ephesians 1:13-14. Romans 6:23. For the penalty for sin is death, but the GIFT of God is eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Jesus came to save us. He is the savior and we are the sinners. Faith alone apart from any works for the free gift of eternal life. Romans 4:5-8.
