I have had problems with Optima Batteries going dead before there time and it’s hard to get a replacement even with their longer warranty. Got a dual post yellow top that has died and even having it on a trickle charger. That’s why I searched the Odyssey battery and believe I’m going to bight the bullet and pay the higher price. Just so you are aware, AGM batteries don't do well with trickle chargers. They need a full force charge.

The biggest benefit to odyssey batteries is they’re made in the USA not Mexico and not China.

Lead-acid Batteries normally corrode terminals, cables and hold down brackets. End up buying Battery pads for the terminals to try and control it. With AGM Battery no corrosion. Sam's club AGM died, 2 in 2 years. Finally went back to Optima, on year 4, no problem. I will get a odyssey battery next time to try them out.

I have a 2004 F-350 and I bought 2 yellow tops for the truck, because the 6.0 Powerstroke takes two batteries. I have had nothing but issues for the last 4yrs. My truck ran it for 1yr and sat for 1yr and the batteries went bad and wouldn't recharge, so swapped them and the battery lasted 6mo and I swapped it again under the warranty and it lasted 6mo. So I went back to autozone and this time they swapped me for odyssey batteries and covered the extra price difference, immediately I could tell the difference, my truck never started this fast in 9 degree weather and my voltage is higher like 14.0v vs the yellow tops at max 13v. I like that the odyssey's have a 4yr warranty vs 3yr from Optima. The edit was to fix some errors I made.

I have revived a couple yellow top batteries that seemed dead by charging for hours with an old type charter at 30a. Made them last another year or so. Keep a watch on them while charging and do it in a safe place, it's a lot of amps.

The Lithium batteries already are out there, EarthX for one. Expensive but great performance. But they don't do well in cold weather. Also they are very light weight and are more compact.

Odyssey batteries thay are very very nice, Expensive.. I still use the old standard batteries I'm using a duralast gold, I was thinking about getting an inner state,This battery something to really take a look at.. thank you for the video. You do have some interesting informative videos..Ps, Put a hole in my radiator😕 thinking about Rolling the fins to stop the leak Never tried it They said it is sure fire fix ...🚘🇨🇦🇺🇸

The old interstate/Duralasts were good, but they are garbage now. Same with Optima, they were good until the company was bought and moved to Mexico. I went through 2 Duralast golds in 3 yrs. Finally broke down and got an Odyssey, I've had my truck 14yrs and it's never cranked so fast, plus 4 yr warranty. Worth the extra money

I've had this one going on 4 years I hope it holds up,, I've had trouble with their bearings wheel bearings hubs I am gonna get an innerstate on the next battery Thank you on your comment..ps Here's a tip I really like it when I found out silicone grease pure silicone grease on your windshield wipers it a smear at 1st a little just leave it on I can sure and it with everybody and put it on their windshield wipers have a good day thank you for your comment take care..

Last red top Optima lasted 9 years. It’s 25NOV2022 and pretty sure it was a Mexican made one. It lasted a very long time driving my truck 1-3 times a month. I got a yellow top to help with the downtime of driving her, but the F150 never needed a jump after driving in last 6 months but letting her sit for 1-2 weeks needed a jump. 9 years on that optima tho. I’m sold.

i had a yellow top for 10 years. cost 450$ canadian but well worth it. At year 3 it sat dead in -20 for a week while i was gone. Brought it in and let it slowly warm up for 2 days, trickle charged it for 3 days and it was like new. Meanwhile my buddies all buying all these otherbrands and gotta buy a new one every 3-4 years up here. Also Optima tests the SHIT out of their batteries.

Odyssey batteries are good, but the longest I had one was for 4 years. The one I’m on now is dying after 2. Optima batteries use to be good but the are horrible now. They last about a year and a half. I also use battery tenders as these cars that I use them in are driven on weekends mostly. I have an FD RX7 and G35. Looking for new options at this point.

Had an optima red top in my 99 4runner. The negative battery post separated from the housing and after some email traffic with optima, they ghosted me after I sent them a picture of the battery post. Gotta love it. Guess XS power and odyssey gonna have to fight over my wallet.

@@runningrich it's sad man! I remember being in highschool going to Performance racing industry in Orlando before they moved the show back to the heartland. I remember the optima case with batteries that were blown up, torn apart, ripped in half, whole chunks missing out of the casing exposing one or more of the battery packs.... And every single battery in that display case still had enough nominal voltage left over to start an engine. I was blown away and I've always wanted one in my truck. I guess I shouldnt have met my hero after all 😂.

Hi...I need a new battery as mine just died after 7 years of buying a certified 2011 Caddy CTS 4.. I drive about 1200 miles per year average...about 25 miles per week average along with an occasional road trip 50 miles round trip. Garage kept.. Do I have to drive more to charge the battery or will it drain the way I use the vehicle, and what can I do if this is fact. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

I would recommend the Odessay series of batteries. They hold charge for upto 2 years as long as they fine have a drain. They charge easy and doesn't need to be trickled charged.

On my application the optimas didn’t have nearly the cranking amps the odyssey does. On 7.3 L the CCAs matter.

@@runningrich I think it calls for 750 cca but the odysseys are 950 cca. The optimas were 800 I think. I literally just bought 2 odyssey batteries it cost me 700 bucks.

That's a lot rather money for batteries. You can go with that I have PCD1200 they are supposed to have 1200 CCA. I load tested mine couple of times and everytime it came over 1000 CCA.

Purchased a Optima Red Top today. I was told by the cashier that the brand is not what it used to be & they are no longer reliable. He did also mention that he see's them returned quite a bit. So, did I make a mistake purchasing an Optima Red Top today? Has their reliability gone down the tubes? Or did I make the right choice & the battery should last a long time?

I got a odyssey battery recently for my 1966 Ford Mustang 289. I don’t start it all the time & I wanted a battery that could perform when the car was stored for weeks without it being started. I heard the Optima batteries are not made the same since the manufacturing plant moved from the US to Mexico. The Odyssey battery was almost $300 bucks from AutoZone & I had to order it. & it’s heavy AF! I like the red top & the handle that feels like it might break at anytime to land on your feet when carrying it around LOL. It’s nice to have the piece of mind that my classic car will fire now at any time. 🤓

I stored the battery outside this winter with a car. After being idle for 5 months, it was able to start the car. Unbelievable!!

In abusive conditions, the optima will not last even a few months. I was a fan 20 years ago, when they were made in Aurora Colorado. They lasted, but always short on ah compared to the same group size. They are absolutely trash these days, there's a reason you don't see them in parts stores, to many warranty claims. Northstar and Odyessy are FAR superior, for about the same price. I wouldn't give an optima to my worst enemy. They ARE that bad.

What does everyone think of Capacitors for a storage energy source in automotive applications. Their adoption has been forecasted for a least a decade but are they really reliable and cost effective

What I understand is, they are not reliable in terms of storage. They have the tendency to explode. That's probably why that idea is not adopted yet. They are super fast to charge and discharge.

i have a 6pack of maxwell caps, its strong enough to replace the battery but capacitors dont have storage like a battery. if you accidentally put your ignition in accessories and turn the radio on or leave the dome light on, the caps will drain within 5-10 minutes. im not sure if its also safe to use a jump to recharge them cuz when i charged mine the shop had to put a bunch of things between the chargers positive line to the caps. the caps are a great idea since they are very light mine weighs around 5-7 lbs and i use it for car audio

WAS an Optima fan. Purchased a Napa battery for my truck in Dec. 2013. I needed a battery for an engine stand so less than 3 years ago I purchased an Optima for my truck and used the Napa for the stand (on trickle charger). Now my optima is dead reading about 7 volts, no parasitic draw with charging system showing +/- 14 volts. Junked the Optima and re-installed the Napa battery (Now about 8 years old)

If you read some of the other comments, you will hear similar stories about Optima batteries.. seems like a common thing for optima to die after 2 years.

Optima batteries no longer last like they used to ...Odyssey are better batteries and what I go with .... All AGM batteries still need to be disconnected when in storage to maintain their charge otherwise low voltage draws can still make them go dead .

They do make 12v lithium ion batteries. They also make lithium phosphate batteries. Battleborn batteries are lithium. We all know starting an internal combustion engine is all depends on cold cranking amps. Flooded battery for starting an engine are far superior. Lithium iron batteries aren't smaller.

Buy the OEM Mercedes battery. You will have issue with any other battery.

@@runningrichdamn I already bought a performance oddesy battery and mechanic has it right now I guess I’ll see if anything happens. Do you know what issues might happen if using the odessy battery? Because I don’t know what would go wrong since the battery is over all my powerful than the oem one and overall all seems like a better battery. But let me know what issues may come up or what to look for. Good thing is i got from fcp euro incase anything goes wrong I have lifetime warranty and replacement incase it doesn’t work

Mercedes requires a very specific voltage of 14.2 and specific amperage, usually certain bosch batteries come with them. Bosch makes the Mercedes and BMW batteries.

You need to educate yourself a bit. The heavier the better is more lead and more power. Lithium has a 40% reduction in capacity below freezing and also doesn’t have good CCA to start a motor. AGM all the way! 👍 Also no matter how a battery is when it drops below 50% capacity damage sets in. Lastly, Optima batteries suck because they they used to be 99.9% pure lead when they were made in Denver. Research man.

Optima is shit for what you’re paying because in around 2009 they stopped production In the u tied states and started producing them in MEXICO!!! And the quality went down substantially and now many of these batteries are failing within just a couple years and many times don’t even last 2 years

They have a 4 year warranty. I have seen people use then for 10 years, as long as you don't let them die.

Optima red top are terrible batteries. I thought I loved them but then it died over a season. Okay so i got a new one on warranty whatever. Then that one died and another.... every battery was on an expensive nice optima brand charger on maintenance mode when garaged. There was no excuse for it. Will never buy another. FWIW- I've read on multiple sources that Optimas manufacturing had changed some years ago and the quality went 💩 Seriously don't get one. Or if you do, you've been warned. Again my experience was with a redtop in my 1997 z28 Camaro.

Just a headsup. These batteries doesn't work well on triple charge. Just put full charge on them every now and then.

@@runningrich yeah i charged them last 2 batts exactly how optima told me to do even on their own branded $200-USD charger. Technically it was on "maintenance" mode on their smart charger. You connect the charger and it just does its own thing based on what the battery needs and has a specific button for optima batteries. I still call it trickle maybe thats not technically correct but anyways. No difference. The last batteries died the same as the first 🤷♂️ Ill never own another. I am gonna try out odyssey brand "performance" for my daily WRX and if all is well then ill get one for my Camaro. Probably the extreme. Either that or a deka intimidator.

@@runningrich I basically watched your video only because you had odyssey in the description hahah. But yeah I had known this for years about them. They switched production back in like 2009 or 2010. Used to be great not anymore. They got bought out. My bad experience with redtops in my Camaro was from 2011-2014 for reference.

I heard that if the battery starts to wear out then the alternator will have to work harder which will wear that out faster , from what I heard

Do not buy optima batteries they are pure garbage. I bought one going off the reputation big mistake. Now optima once upon a time was the best battery, But that’s when they were American made. That is not the case anymore, they went from the best to the absolute worst. Last time I bout one I had it replaced 12 times in a year red top yellow top. Got tired of it bought a no name battery for 1/4 the price, which brings us up to date 10 yrs later. I still have the no name, car still fires right up have not replaced the battery once no issues!! Choice is yours do you like spending almost 3x less for normal or do you want to 3x more for a gift wrapped p.o.s?

@@runningrich I had multiple problems from dead to swollen to electrical problems you name it all under optima. 💯 after 12 optima’s taking that pos out all problems seem to of strangely disappeared. Best decision I’ve made when it comes to my cars!!

Optima Batteries are junk now they're not being made in the United States. I bought one a few years ago it failed in less than a year. Bought an Odyssey 3 years ago and not a single issue great battery.
