Im Slowly diving into primers and paints on my first Vw Bug restoration. Im considering the Epoxy but wanted to ask what happens if i dont spray over the epoxy after 72 hours? Will it corrode?

Thanks for making that distinction between chemical adhesion and mechanical adhesion. My epoxy has been on for 2 years now and I was under the impression if I didn’t recoat within the window, I needed to repeat the epoxy again. Woho - sand and paint!!

I’m spray a frame with epoxy sealer. Would you recommend sanding the epoxy before paint? I just had my frame blasted yesterday. I’ve sprayed the sand all off after drying them I sprayed the frame down with wax and grease remover.

in your video you said you should cute out 3 to four inches past the rust hole so you have good metal to weld on the new metal, would it be ok to cut out 1 inch past the rust ?

when you apply epoxy primer over metal and you have nice un insolated garage that does not have any roof rain leaks can you leave the epoxy primer parts over 1 year threw the winter in the garage until ready to paint in 1 year ??

My question would be around epoxy primer sealer. I am painting the wing of an airplane that’s obviously aluminum. Sanded and remove much of the flaking off paint as possible. I wanted to avoid doing the stripping process. I took everything down to 500 g-sand paper. I sprayed and Epoxy primer sealer on by T. Rex DTM epoxy primer sealer speedokote. Unfortunately I did not use the proper air pressure at the cab (I now know what that is)and the material was a little bit thick and went on like cottage cheese on two of the wing surfaces before I got it reduced down to lay nice. The tech data sheet indicates that I can sand after 24 hr. I pland on top coating with in my 24 hr window but now that’s out and I Am back to sanding. The other issue it lifted in a few places. Help what my next move. Using 2k paint by Axalta Nason.

Yes, too low of air pressure or wrong mixing ratio can cause the excessive orange peel. I haven't had a problem with epoxy lifting. Make sure you wait the flash times and don't try yo put too much o at one time. That may help that issue. I have E-coat replacement floor panels would it be ok to use DTM urethane primer on the bottom and top and start top coating?

Yeah, just make sure the primer does not require sanding, which some don't. However, many surfacers require sanding before topcoating.

@@CarAddictGarage, I am close by in the town of Arvada. about 20 min away. I have a 57 Dodge custom royal lancer convertible. about ready to have it Media blasted and put it epoxy sealer and then do the work on it. I enjoy your You Tube walk thru Videos. john

Car Addict Garage , my daughter teaches in Wichita, do I am well aware of the cost of being here versus Kansas. I moved from Detroit 40 years ago to work for Chrysler Zone office. Where did you set up shop out here? Dealership or your own Shop? I am retired after selling my part of and mfg. rep in the electrical line of work. You will love the no humidity out here. UV light (sun light) destroys epoxy.

Yes, it is not designed to be used as a top coat. The sun will break it down.
