Gary bringing up Mike Phelan on the staff as ‘experienced’ who was with Sir Alex 8/9 years ago. The game changes quick, and these teams at the top have some of the smartest coaches in world football. If you don’t adapt you get left behind. Pep said before, ‘guys top football is so so complicated’. At United Ole is getting fundamentals of the modern game wrong. Playing 4 strikers (who can’t press or help the defensive shape) against the best pressing team in the world, that’s insanity.

You make a good point. I'm no lover of Man U or Liverpool (Baggies fan), but I think the elephant in the room that no one is talking about is that there are far too many big time Charlies in the United dressing room (Pogba's performance being indicative there of). Ole is not equipped to deal with these, and the results are there for all to see, as are the stats (eg. they do the least running). So either Ole and his coaching staff go, or you get rid of the big time Charlies. I'd be interested to see what Man U fans want

@@alexandrosmironis6093 Ole is a good man manager. Players have liked this about him. But he is out of his depth when it comes to tactics. This is where the members of the coaching staff pitch in with their expertise about style of play, tactical setup and so on. The reason Ole will have to go is not because he is a bad manager. The reason he will go (if he goes) will be his inept tactical decisions and lack of playing identity. Also, i respect your opinion. You think the coaching staff is not a problem. Gary Neville: “Something changed at Leicester at half-time.” As if everything has been great before that! Like Carragher said, the stats show the problems run deeper than 1 week ago. Fact is, Ole is trying to compete against relentless opponents (Tuchel, Klopp, Guardiola) all operating at the very highest level of their trade. He’s not tactically sophisticated enough or ruthless (remember he spent most of his playing career happily sat on the bench, not ruthless enough to demand a starting position) to compete with Chelsea, City and Liverpool. And it’s not just Ole. The club has been mismanaged from the top for over a decade now. People say you can't be a pressing team with Ronaldo, their right, but you also cant be a pressing team with Maguire is he's too slow, non exsistant recovery pace.
@mart4414

You can be a team that doesn't press high and still win matches, what you can't be is a team split into players that press and others that don't. And whenever they fancy, never in unison. That's suicidal. This is not a one off, it's happened multiple times already and they are finally being punished for it. Coaching staff needs to resign.

“Mike Phelan has a lot of experience”…… dear oh dear. For once I’m on Souness’ side and Carraghers as a United fan. These blinkered friends culture supporting Ole is the same culture why Ole is supporting his coaches who let’s be honest are suited to a youth set up!

I can understand Gary defending his mate OGS, What's his loyality to MP? This is the guy who had to get a job over the ditch in Aussie after failing so many times post SAF days so not sure what experience he's talking about. You'd think he'd at least remember how SAF setup the team to play with CR7 around. But think about this, how many of our ex players or ex assistant managers have left to become above average managers? CQ went to Madrid and didn't last, SM went to England and needed an umbrella... BR, SB, MH, MP, OGS etc all below average managers... did I miss someone who became an exceptional manager (or just above average manager) after leaving Utd?
