Thanks! apart from trading, I really do enjoy teaching. I was a part time finance professor for a few years, but it eventually took too much time fro my schedule.

Why VIX only increases when on down move. Shouldn't the implied volatility mean same for both up or down moves ?

Good question. It is just the nature of the markets and people. When fear kicks in, swings widen. People are calmer when they make money vs when they lose.
