It always makes me so sad when all the other students start ganging up on Elphaba. Even though that's kinda the point. x

I find it funny that the original Broadway cast brought the whole set outside and the Australian cast couldn't bring the set to a stage
@kaysi66058 жыл бұрын
I'd have loved if they would have used an Australian accent.
@carleym45468 жыл бұрын
Umm ... But that's the character they have American accents they can't just change it
@kaysi66058 жыл бұрын
Not really. Dorothy may come from America but the WoOz books nor the wicked books define the accent of the people of Oz. It just happens to be American because it was produced in the states and in the UK they do use a British accent. I think it makes it a little bit more individual and unique allowing once own countries natural accent to be integrated.

In the west end version they have English accents!

@@carleym4546 Who says they can't?Accents don't matter lol. It would be so interesting to hear them use their own accent.

Caught Wicked here in SG and it was SIMPLY AMAZING! I have to say the Australian cast have better vocals than the other casts. And Suzie Mathers did justice to Glinda! She was terrific.

Eh. Everyone is complaining about Glinda, but I thought she was okay. I found Elphaba to be a bit...boring? I think part of the problem is, you can't hear her sing. Don't know if it's the mike or if Lucy's too powerful for her. And yes, she rushed that first bit. It isn't as funny if you can't understand what she says. I thought Jemma was Kerry Ellis at first, very similar looks. Over all it was okay, but lacking.

I actually love Lucy in this, but I haven't actually seen the show live so I don't have much to compare it to other than other KZfaq videos. She was definitely better to the others I've found on here, and sounded a lot like the broadway recording

Lucy just doesn't do it for me as Galinda and I saw her live when it was on tour. She's so nasal and as far as I've heard she's the same in Legally Blonde as Elle Woods. It's too much, you don't become a character by putting on a voice, it needs to be so much more than that. She's a wonderful person and I'm sure that there's a part for her somewhere, but Galinda and Elle aren't it.

I don't care how many people agree with me? That's how the playwright and musical director have written it. The opinion of a group of KZfaq users isn't going to change the fact that that is how they have written it: to be fast.
Oh, I'm sure she is. I am in no way judging them as people with evil insights, but I am simply concluding that I have overall preferred other actresses in her place. I still commend her on a job well done.

Why do they have American accents? In the West End show the cast have a verity of English accents, so why make the Australian cast change? I just don't get it.
@sambsstt10 жыл бұрын
it's an american show, and personally i think the english accents don't work because the content of the show is very 'american' (ie. college etc)
@alanbound577710 жыл бұрын
Sam Bissett You do realise that we have colleges and universities in the UK right? Also, Gregory Maguire says in the Wicked novel that he inspired Shiz on Oxford and wrote that part when he was living in the UK. I think the English accent works really well for Glinda - It kind of gives her that 'posh' higher class feel that Americans seem to thrive off.
@ToshZeKeen10 жыл бұрын
Alan Bound British accents just go well usually in fantasy settings.
@sambsstt9 жыл бұрын
Of course! But the term 'college' is very american
@ToshZeKeen9 жыл бұрын

YEAH! She's supposed to hold out different words! but she rushed it all together and had to hold "descriiiiiiiiiiiiiibe" too long! It should be "Unuuuusually and exceedingly pecuuuuuuliar and altogether quite impooooooosible to descriiiibe"....anyways....
