Our system is clearly failing. The crackdown on prescription opioids led to fentanyl and look how that turned out; over100,000 dead from overdoses in 2022. And these deaths will continue to rise. People have used drugs ast long as humans have lived, and making them illegal does not stop anyone from using them, addict or not. I could buy drugs easier than I could alcohol before I was 21. If we don't try something different, then more people will die and more crime will happen. That "just say no" mentality was clearly a total fail, why not try a different approach.@@Titbitist

Children of mothers in prison are significantly likely to end up in prison than the children of men" It has already been proven by prison, school, college records that even children raised by single mothers in communities become less successful compared to single fathers. The problem started in 1980 as shown in the graph along the second wave feminism which debated gender inequalities and role of women in societies. Majority not "all" of those women in prison "chose" to be independent rather than be a wives which forced them to sell/use drugs. It's not a coincidence, feminism has and continues to DESTROY the societies. The traditional way worked well for CENTURIES despite a few problems which will always be there. You can't have 100% working system
@cloutdaze

@@edobwoy There still exists children to defy the odds, and chalking kids up to statistics really just stifles them. In a perfect world, every child would have quality education and a good family life. Blaming the incarceration problems on feminism is a whole other level of crazy though. Becoming solely responsible for children because a guy wasn’t man enough to be a father isn’t just feminism. It’s an unfortunate reality, and while it’s easy to make base level assumptions about people you do not know.. try to remember if you’re man enough to walk a mile in their shoes. Which you probably are not, considering your obvious resentment.

If our government would do this kind of help around all states our country would be a better place. Even giving the dads that are in jails the same way of taking care of their babies would help all families. Don’t lock up people that do minor drug offenses but put them in rehabs that cater to the needs of the individual that has drug addictions. Putting people in jail for petty crimes can lead to more problems than it can solve. There do needs to be some exceptions to different individuals that have a violent record that is attached to the crime or that of one who seems to have a mental health issue.

Drug companies pay salespeople big bucks to pressure pharmacists to prescribe highly addictive drugs for minor pain. They are paid to create millions of addicts. I’d like these drug companies to learn a little responsibility.
@user-gd8du8yd5d

@@luciannebeans6679 pharmacists don’t prescribe medicine. They fill orders prescribed by doctors. Also, the women featured in this documentary are likely addicted to street drugs (crack cocaine, meth, etc.) not doctor-prescribed medication. Again, personal responsibility goes a long way. The doses the doctors prescribe is very low and locally regulated - not enough to become addicted. It’s the people who keep coming back for more and complain of non-existent pain to get more medication.

I used to be an absolutist thinker, too, but I grew up. Situations are rarely that simple. Wild guess here - you're Anti-Choice, yeah? "Protect the baby until it's popped out and then eff it." You do understand that the baby suffers immensely by taking it away from the mother? Pregnant people need support, not judgement. Your judgement is for your ego only.

The system is prisons for profit. None violent offenders are just a commodity. The illness is our society that too many are drugging themselves to deal with. "Where there is no vision, the people perish". When mininum wage hasn't risen in 14 years and was also way below any standard of living before that. Opportunities out of reach or unavailable to too many in our population. What goals can one set to achieve in a society where prosperity and on the job satisfaction is only granted to the few? Many jobs with little or no benefits, treating their workers like cogs in a wheel, easily replaced who see no gains themselves when the companies they are working for are seeing record profits? You ask me what dreams, hopes and excitement for the future too many don't have. That can often lead to checking out or getting into drugs and the sales of them. Yet the well connected get theirs without a problem. But instead of fixing this bottom line issues in our society, let's build more prisons for profit for investors and the greedy as children are living on the streets and mothers are incarcerated.
