I've had over 100K views on my video on how to buy a Gladiator so I thought I'd make another for the folks on the fence between the Jeep JT and the JL. The difference might be obvious but There are some things that you would have never thought of.
*Remember to go to Tread Lightly a month before you purchase to get that additional discount below retail.
*Correction: The Jeep JL EcoDiesel is 240 HP and 420 Lb-ft of torque NOT 480 of torque.
Who are we? A custom Jeep shop in Central Texas. We make you Jeep badass. Each episode I take you to work with me and my crew. We do badass builds, of course, and tons of owner tips and some off-road adventures.

...."fording depth you know because we we do that a lot in our jeeps right ....we go through rivers a lot" One of the reasons we are getting a Jeep Gladiator or Wrangler is because we live a mile back from the front gate, on the back side of a hill, between two creeks. I almost made our Subaru a SUB-aru last spring. I literally take a right turn in the creek every time I come home. Fording depth is actually something important to me. If its too deep for the Subaru, we can take the Jeep, if it's too deep for the Jeep then we just don't go. 99% sure we are getting a Diesel Gladiator...I just haven't decided on what trim level I want vs. what I need. I've been to Hidden Falls in Marble Falls a couple of times with a WJ but what I want is a Jeep that is built for where I live (175mi N of you)....creek, gravel roads, and maybe a bit of mud in the fields down by the creek. (I've watched your other video on Gladiator trim levels) I have a feeling if I get the Rubicon I am tempted by, it will be more than I ever need in stock form Thanks for posting these videos, they have been a great help.

I just ordered my first Jeep about 2 weeks ago. It is a 2021 JL Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon. I cannot wait to get it. I’ve always been a Tacoma guy in the past and still love them. In the past, I needed a truck but also wanted one to go out off roading in. I now have a full size 4x4 truck but am going to keep it. The Jeep will be used primarily for off roading and nothing more. What won me over was the ability to lift them much easier, the Rubicon’s come stock with 33’s but you can put 35’s on them very easily with no modifications or at worst, a 2” lift kit. But the big thing for me was finally having both a front and rear locking axles. My last Tacoma had a rear locker but there were times when a front locker would have made certain trails much easier. I appreciated this video and learned a lot from it. I was considering a Gladiator and may add one into the line up in a few years but I wanted to get a Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon first because it better suited my immediate needs but if some things work out like I am planning, I may be buying a few Rubicon’s within the next few years.

Great video! I'm leaning more towards the Gladiator for every aspect except for the cargo area. Both are an upgrade from my 2-dr JK, but with one baby and a pup now and another baby on the way, having those two bucket seats filled with car seats means the pup has to either go in the truck bed (with a topper), on the floor or between the kids. In the Wrangler, she can just go in the back cargo area. Gahhh, I can't decide! Especially since both in Willys packages come in right around the same price for 2021 models.

I'd probably go Gladiator, for the longer wheelbase and the carrying capacity. My wife gets carsick easily, so the Gladiator probably would be more enjoyable for her. With a family of four, I find interior carrying capacity can be tight. I'd have to add a tonneau for security. Did I mention my twin daughters are jazz musicians, trombone and baritone sax? For trim, the Rubicon seems best option. The Gladiator would be a daily driver that sees some light to moderate off-road use. The Rubicon already is kitted out, including lockers. 33" tires are fine for me, though I'll grant 35" look better. River crossings? Yeah, no. Most flood deaths occur in cars. Water weighs between 8.33 and 8.345 pounds/gallon. It only takes about two feet of fast-running water to carry a car away. If the water's over the axles, I'm looking for another crossing. No snorkel needed. I bought a new Wrangler in the mid-90's. The floorboards leaked when driving in the rain. A friend actually wanted to take on that and other QC issues, so I sold it to him.

Right now, I'm not upset with my decision to go with the 2.0, but as I load up the accessories and gear for camping / overlanding, I can't help but wonder if I would be better off with a larger motor to handle it all (I know the torque is better in the 2.0, but still)... Negative. The JL sport and Sahara come with D30/D35 unless they are equipped with a max tow package. You don’t have to believe me but we’ve re-geared quite a bit of these. Trust me it’s a D35.
@c4onmylip
@c4onmylip 4 жыл бұрын
Well technically yes but no. The d35 died with the TJ, now they're running the m200 which is pretty much a d35 but technically isn't because it's the new generation. Unless you have the LSD or max tow package, then you get the m220 which is functionally a d44 like Exodus said. These new gen axles are actually relatively beefy compared to the old ones, like the ford ranger is running the m200 (d35) in the rear and it's not causing any issue, still towes alright for a midsize truck.
