I had the pleasure to watch this match in real life. It was quite the thriller, from Deac having only around 10 min with around 20 moves before time control to all the pressure in the final minutes. Alireza was really stressed. He let out a sigh of relaxation after he sacrificied the knight for the passed pawn knowing for sure that the game was finaly over.

Wow, I would have thought that 3 passed pawns would have been more dangerous. I was waiting to see Black have to give up both Knights to stop them.

The black rook was too active and was able to harass the passed pawns before white could coordinate with his rook and bishop. Rook activity is so important in endgames that a more active rook is worth one or two pawns. Look at how easy the black rook was able to scoop up the base of the pawn chain before the pawns even started moving.

In draws, the higher rated player loses some points, the lower rated player gains some points. So here Alireza lost 1.8 points and Deac gained 1.8 points. Imagine it in terms of "expected performance" - you'd expect a stronger player to win, so if they fail to do so they'll lose points & vice versa

@@bhaveshkahaneable I know he hasn't been great in this tournament but he is still very young. I have the impression that his coaching has not been as strong as magnus had, so he may still have more potential in him. I am not claiming he is going to be the best, but he is the only one with the potential to do so right now

At 3:50, why can’t you play c5 trying to go Qb6, Rb1 doesn’t work because the Knight is hanging there. I know white looks like he will bulldoze the center but I can’t see how the queen is actually trapped in that position
@chiragagrawal186
@chiragagrawal186 2 жыл бұрын
The knight jumps to b5 after c5, blocking the file and the queen will then be harassed by white's pieces.

Hasn't Alireza been prepping for Candidates since end of last year? his performance in this tournament hasn't lived up to expectations, his live rating has dropped down to 2795.6. Is he just rusty or doesn't want to give away any of his Candidates Prep?

9:27: It may in fact be stoppable: Q×h6 now threatens mate and attacks the Knight. Am I wrong?
@LyricsOfALifetime
@LyricsOfALifetime 2 жыл бұрын
If Queen captures on h6, black will play queen to h3 and then you can't capture the knight because it's defended by the queen on h3. Capturing on h6 is basically offering the queen to avoid mate
@wot_hog
@wot_hog 2 жыл бұрын
@@LyricsOfALifetime But if Black plays his Queen to h3 to defend the Knight then White simply moves his Queen to h8 checkmate. So I'm still wondering why Q×h6 was not played and why Antonio didn't look at this for us.
