Hendrix said Bonzo's right foot was like a set of castanets,amazing drummer. Had absolutely everything, power,touch,feel,rhythm, speed et al.Remember his kit was fairly basic,yeah a couple of add ons,but what he did on it....WOW!!!!!!☘ ...

Its one thing to disect his playing long after the song was recorded, but you have to realize that John Bonham didn't sit there and plan out all these songs, he played by feel, in other words, he played what he thought sounded right. Thats what made him so great, it was his feel for drumming.

Great video! I've been a Zep fan since ~4 years old and a drummer for 35 years, Bonham IS the man! Zeppelin was like 4 planets aligning, so rare to get that mix. To say anyone is the best is subjective, an opinion, but Bonzo has facts to support the opinion that he is the best.

The members of Zeppelin did not haphazardly find each other. They knew very well the talent that each member brought to the band, which drew them together. The rest is history.

People always talk about Bonham notes when what makes him great to me is his feel! I never found him technical personally but his swagger and flow is untouchable! His drum tone untouchable! His way behind the beat time is untouchable! His subtitles are always musical along with his fills. He never does ghost notes just to do them they always completely fit and are called for. He also will do one hi hat bark say in all of my love to go back in to a verse and it is the coolest baddest thing ever.

Listen to Zep BBC live's "Dazed & Confused" through the incredible middle solo. Jimmy comes out of a blistering complex of rip and as he hits sudden very distinct notes high up, Bonham's bass-foot is exactly in synch with Page's guitar-pick. Staggering.

@Sam Gamble White Completely agree that docu misses the feel. I can remember the first time I saw it I was like well ok he's got some bits down and he's thrown in some technicality babble to confuse the masses and make it sound like he knows what the fuck he's talking about but there are parts to it small details that make you realise he hasn't got a clue. Edit: also to even intimate that Zeppelins power came from anyone but Page is so musically uninformed as to be almost instantly disregarded. Just thought Id throw that in as a Page fanboi. Still though, The Greatest Drummer of All Time, only Keith Moon comes close fuck Ginger and Cozy they couldn't even get in the starting line.

@jaybreen1010
@jaybreen1010 10 ай бұрын
That mini documentary makes many good points. But it's kind of unforgivable that they make the fact that Bonzo played 4/4 with a triplet subdivision on Fool In The Rain sound like something disparate and mathematically advanced against the bass and guitar playing 12/8 time. It's literally the same fucking thing, said two different ways. They're all playing 4/4 with a triplet subdivision; and they're all playing 12/8 time together. That point is totally wack! If the author really does understand all of these theory terms and musical descriptors, then making that point is simply disingenuous. If not, it's ignorance. Neither is a good look.
