I've never used Tyvek so i can't say alleather.com/products/reinforcement-paper is where i buy Velodon. All you need is something that's not to thick. Good luck

The blue snakeskin is great especially in the sunlight it looks almost like metal. Pain in the arse to work with. It also requires paperwork on sale 😕 glad you like it mate I brought a new watch cleaning machine I'll be taking that apart and fixing it here next. Should be interesting

I make straps with rubber backing for people who come from hotter countries or just want something for the summer months. The general lining materials I use are also pretty water-resistant. I'm glad you enjoyed having a look at how these are made.

I havent been in the studio for a while as the foreign market has distroyed the hand made jewelry market but i plan on firing it back up again. Lamb skin is a great liner and also works as a top leather a little delicate perhaps. I love Ostrich. Never tried elephant. I imagine the import export laws around it for makers are somewhat complex .

To clarify, the first time you used it, to indent the leather

Thank you. The creaser was set to 160°C for this. I normally test the temperature on a scrap bit for each new leather. different leathers need different temperatures, normally between 100 - 200

I make rubber backed leather straps, Rolexs new rubber strap is more of a bracelet covered in rubber from my understanding. Not really my cup of tea. Most people don't know what goes into a high quality strap glad you enjoyed a look at this one.

I'm glad you liked it. The reason why I think KZfaqrs start a secondary channel is not, or I can only speak for myself here. But for me, it's not for more views. The KZfaq system is awful. If I put a video out on my main channel that's not popular with my subscribers, say making a wallet, I run a very good chance of seeing my entire channel die. It's a difficult system. This channel I'm just going to make what I like, and I don't really care if KZfaq shows it to people or not. I hope they do, but the point of this is just so I can put out random stuff and not have to worry about bowing to the almighty KZfaq algorithm.

Fair enough but you are saying the second channel *is* for more views but more views on your main channel. I think you underestimate how popular this particular video would be on your main channel - your USP is watch straps and this plays right into that. Agree that something entirely off piste like making a wallet should be here.

Sure I agree watch straps would 100% be a fit for the main channel and I'll have them there for sure, this one just went here as it was an hour long and I did not think a 2 hour long bulova video would go down well. My idea with straps was to have a short one 10 mins or so integrated into a restoration video which I think is enough for most people. Then do a deep dive here for the people that would actually want to make one. But really I expect this will turn into a place where I experiment with content and take suggestions from people like yourself on what would fit the main channel and what would not.

I watched this even though I have no intention whatsoever of making a watch strap or indeed of restoring watches. Just like 99.99% of the 800,000 who subscribe to Wristwatch Revival. I mean Hand Tool Rescue is another, 1.1m subscribers and absolutely none of those want to actually restore a 1904 vacuum cleaner themselves. In many cases the actual content is pretty irrelevant, it’s the creator we’re interested in. Anyway, keep up the good work !

Fake leather has it's place a bit like chipboard does; however, fake leather is not as strong or durable as the real stuff. I've made a fake leather strap for a client who wanted a very specific painted leather. I do not recommend it at all, but at the end of the day, I'm here to make items that fit my clients specifications, not my preferences.

Sure, if your just buying and selling watches, then I'd just bung a cheap strap on them as well. I will give you this warning.I'm not trying to be funny here; this is something I've seen happen. 99% of alligator or crocodile straps from Vietnam don't come with CITES certificates, and if you don't have paperwork on your exotic straps, do not ship a watch on them; customs will destroy the watch along with the strap. A friend of mine had a Vacheron Constantin destroyed this way. Its why reputable auction houses remove exotic straps from a lot of watches before shipping.

@@Wasting-Time-oc7jl Yes sure, sending an alligator item abroad is a risk for sure. The sellers seem to have adapted and describe them as “artificial leather”. I have had one strap destroyed by customs already. Criminal that they also destroy the watch itself, I didn’t know that!

Most people don't. The simple fact is that you'll pay someone like me a lot more for exotic skins because I obey the law, and that's expensive. My straps ship worldwide with no issues. The straps you are buying are illegally imported, and obviously it's cheaper to buy something illegal that's made by someone making $200 a month. It also potentially supports the criminal industry around the harvesting and pouching of endangered spices. I don't buy the stuff because i consider it immoral, which to me is more important than the price but hey, i'm not the moral police. My stuff is extensive simply because it takes around 3 - 4 hours of skilled work to produce a strap, and I'm not working for $1 an hour. Money has power; it has velocity, and maybe supporting a local craftsman in your area and paying a bit more will ultimately lead to a better quality of life for you and yours. But i'm just a strap maker; what do it know ;)
