What Martial Arts and Motorcycling Have in Common.

I believe training is the most important factor in ensuring you return home safe from every ride on your motorcycle! In this vlog (#43) I talk about how my experience in the military and martial arts has influenced how I approach motorcycling and think it might benefit others in the community as well. We are going to discuss how you can properly condition yourself to get through the uncommon and unwanted circumstances that we all face riding motorcycles at one point or another in our lifetimes!

I demonstrate and preach the value of instinctive and consciously countersteering. It's shocking that so many riders couldn't slam a turn to save their lives. They see me demonstrate and think I'm nuts. I first learned the skill about 20 to 25 years ago on a Goldwing. Many riders still think that their body weight leans the bike. I'm 73 now, I still do some radical quick back & forth warm-ups and dodge some imaginary potholes every time I ride my ST1300. I will occasionally weave between the center lines at up to 75mph when I'm feeling "on". Practicing everything is required to maintain and have the necessary confidence!🏍🏍🏍

Great vid! I’ve got less than 500 miles on my first bike, loving it and definitely still have a lot to learn, now with the emergency maneuvers on the list sooner rather than later. Cheers.

Thanks for the advice that every motorcyclist needs to listen to and find time to work on until it becomes something they do without thinking. There are many things that can be put into this, when it comes to motorcycle safety, I just have to keep learning and being open to spend time practicing.

everyone should practice these things.Every bike handles differently and so do every set of tires.I had to emergency brake on a set of tires that I had never had before and they did not perform even close to the last set.Needless to say they where replaced asap.KNOW YOUR BIKE and hone your skillset.
